Last night's episode with Steph Curry was pretty enjoyable

Both Steph Curry and Senator Mark Kelly were excellent guests, IMO. Both had really quick and on-point answers to Stephen's questions.

50 Cent (from the previous night) was a little odd.

Here's my post from the other thread that belongs here, from when Ketanji Brown Jackson was on:

Amazon has a sample of her memoir that includes the TOC and a few pages of text:

She was so engaging that it made me want to read it.

During the opening monologue for 10.3, Stephen had a zinger retort to a current meme that made me laugh and clap, and reminded me why I watch:

Quote

Wait a second. Tim Walls has a right-wing brother who posts on Facebook?
He is the most relatable man in America.

I really liked the converation with Mark Kelly, too. And yes, that bit about Walz having a right-wing brother who posts on Facebook was great. I especially loved Stephen's reactions to Vance going to that donut shop XD.

I had seen that and the other Vance clips previously. Maybe on Seth Meyers' show?
ETA:
Not Seth Meyers. He did it too, but the same night as Colbert. Somewhere else…?

Watching now.
I look forward to using our new F word in a sentence.🤣

ETA:

  • On paramountplus.com, starting at the 13:10 mark for the S10 E5 episode, in reference to Camp David.
  • On YouTube, beginning at the 11 minute mark.

But I guess I'd have to make it more specific.
Actually, I think it was a unique moment where she delivered the perfect words with perfect pauses.

His whole monologue last night was gold but this comment where he was riffing on Trump's insistence on passing along a UL about immigrants eating pets as a fact had me laughing out loud:

"I saw on television there's this one town where they make the dogs do all the work," says Colbert, in Trump impression mode. "They are the police, the fire department, everything. Little puppies. No I saw it, they call them the Paw Patrol and their boss is a little boy."

Definitely total gold, though Trump’s nuttery at the debate certainly helped. The revved up audience and the show being live certainly helped. I’m just glad the show started on time

I f'loved it too, mainly because I have a pair of baby and toddler grandkids with noisy Paw Patrol toys.

Meant to mention this last week, by the way, but did anyone catch the very end of last Wednesday night's show? After the credits there were photos of Stephen's dad and brothers, who died in a plane crash 50 years ago on that date.

It took me a second upon seeing the photos and then I looked closer and I was like, "...ohhhh..." :(.

Yeah, I really liked that interview. I especially liked her explanation for why Trump is doubling dow on this racist nonsense about Hatian immigrants, and how we as a nation react to things like that, and should react to things like that.

Apparently Prime  Minister Trudeau will be on tonight.  This could be interesting.

Well, he didn’t pepper his conversation with too many “uh’s”, so I guess there’s that.

No, Stephen, Canada’s Conservative Party leader is not the equivalent of Trump. Ugh. I hate when the left automatically equates any political leader on the right as being “like Trump”. Come up with a better and more legitimate argument.

Trudeau did okay, a lot of fluff. Colbert asks about his youthful Star Wars enthusiasm and career as a teacher, but not about his history doing blackface at parties. I mean, he can’t talk about everything, and he did touch on the potential (and failed) non-confidence vote in Parliament.

I agree with this but I have  a feeling you meant to put a "not" in there so we'll have to agree to disagree if so 🙂.

I can’t believe the show is in repeats this week except for Tuesday with VP Harris guesting. Weird

Is it my imagination or does there seem to be less and less new content for this show?  I would have expected, especially in the run up to the election that there would be more new shows, not less.

Pretty good interview with VP Harris last night and the cold open was pretty funny. I’m glad Stephen talked about where people can donate for disaster relief during his monologue

I thought it was pretty funny when Stephen joked to Harris about all the Democratic fundraising emails he receives and Harris joked back saying something like her phone is secure so she doesn’t receive those emails

I liked the interview, too. I liked seeing how passionate she was throughout the discussion*. I also liked Stephen's response to the clip with the insinuation that Harris wasn't humble enough, or words to that effect.

*I did not know that about Trump giving COVID tests to Putin. There are a LOT of things I could say about that, but I'm pretty sure they would all run afoul of the politics rule on this site.

But yeah. Holy shit.

A good show overall last night, but I really liked Stephen's monologue jokes about the French (especially the mime part) after showing a clip of Trump wanting to invoke the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 and Stephen saying it was originally aimed at French immigrants

I noticed the audience was going wild over the parts of his miming off camera.
And afterwards he put his hand to his heart and seemed very out of breath.
Hope he's okay. 🙁

I really liked the interview with Pamela Anderson. I didn't realize she was so into cooking. I loved her story about her grandma inviting bikers in for food :D.

She hasn't worn make-up for years & I think she looks much better without it.

That monologue about last night's Trump town hall was hilarious. What. The. Hell?

I saw this elsewhere today too.
Kind of embarrassing?
But neither the LSSC nor the other source took advantage of the opportunity to make any pet-tri-cide jokes about the rally co-host.
Maybe Seth Meyers will.

Someone made a joke about not showing weakness around Kristi Noem, or she'll take you out to the gravel pit.  But now I'm not sure where I heard it.  It had to have been a late-night show, I think.  Or possibly a podcast, but I don't think any I listen to are that recent.

I enjoyed Stephen's bit about "What's wrong with that guy?" So much so that I transcribed it! I'm putting it here under "spoiler" lest someone be offended.  Think I got it right (no mean feat).

Spoiler

What's wrong with that guy?  Well, uh if you're asking seriously, I would say:
It's his narcissistic personality disorder exacerbated by the cruelty of a father who saw his son not as a person in need of love, but as an extension of his own inadequacies.
And now, as he reaches his twilight years, the personality disorder is amplifying symptoms of dementia which makes sense given that some studies show that narcissists may be more prone to Alzheimer's because their brains are are wired inward-focused rather than outward-focused unless stimulated by social connection.
Plus he's got a big ol' butt and it makes him walk funny.

Desi was on fire Tuesday:

- A sneeze is the period of the face.

- I'd put 100 bucks on Jimmy Carter taking him in a push-up contest today.

- I cannot believe Trump is inventing new races.  He doesn't even like the old ones.

- Every second of her reaction to Trump's town hall, especially, "No one wants to have a medical emergency in front of Kristi Noem; she's just looking for a reason to take you to the gravel pit.  She cocked her shotgun when she heard Kamala had allergies."

So was Lewis.  I fell out at him calling himself the only Daily Show employee who works less than Jon Stewart, and his entire rant at undecided voters was fantastic:

- What are you researching?  We know who these people are -- one of them has spent the past four years being vice president, and the other has spent the past forty years being the worst person in America.  What else do you need to do, how they load a dishwasher?

- Even the reporter is like, "Can I go cover a mass shooting?  This is depressing!" (And, OMG, I loved that reporter's face when the guy said he'd vote for Kamala now that Taylor Swift endorsed her, because "I'm a musician, I have to".)

- I'm tired of my vote being canceled out by someone whose IQ score only makes sense in Celsius.

Last night's show fired on all cylinders, too.  I love Desi saying she shouldn't have to explain presidential powers to someone who has already been president, and imitating the way Trump says "Black men", saying it sounds like he's been practicing to keep from calling them something else.  Her exchange with Josh, going back and forth about "what this election is about" for women and for Black men, was something close to perfection.

Holy cow, I did not know about Obama telling Black men about themselves, saying they're just making up reasons not to vote for her, when the real reason they don't want to is their sexist bullshit.

I knew I heard it somewhere!  The first quote is about The Daily Show from Tuesday. Scroll down to get to the Kristi Noem joke.

Good interview with Alexi Navalny’s widow. Brian Cox almost ran into Stephen as he came from backstage because he was acknowledging the audience’s applause. The monologue was rather naughty-heavy with all the jokes about Arnold Palmer

Ellie the Elephant, the mascot for the WNBA’s Liberty team, was the highlight of the show last night, with an appearance dancing on the show at the end of Stephen’s monologue. Some fun moves there. They even showed her moves in the left corner of the screen while showing commercials after the monologue
