Oh god, Shekky and Wish Ken doll. They had another fight and she went a hotel. Yawn. Anyone have any anecdotes? What should I make for my mother this week? I got butternut squash and carrots at the CSA so I'm going to make a squash and carrot soup seasoned with thyme from my little thyme plant. They're buried in baked goods so I don't need to bake them anything this week. But I should make one other thing. I usually do two. I got some chanterelle mushrooms,  could I do maybe a bulgur pilaf with those, and some onion and peppers? I need ideas!

i got a call from my mom’s independent living place in Michigan. They are not happy with her clutter. Again. But my mom (92) won’t listen to anyone!

How's your mother doing? Last I heard she'd been brought to the hospital, is she OK?

Thanks for asking! She seems to be okay. Still has high BP. Her doctor authorized a visiting nurse, which is good. She still has a bunch of doctors she needs to see but doesn’t make appointments…. To be fair, those doctors offices in her area seem to be infuriating!

She needed the high tech, specialist care that she could only get from the top notch Indonesian medical community. Maine, a couple of hours from the best hospitals in the world in Boston, simply would not do.

Sorry. Pet peeve about one half a couple wanting kids and the other doesn’t:

What is there to discuss if he doesn’t want kids? Is that not the dealbreaker of all dealbreakers? There is no compromise there. You can’t free-trial a kid then cancel it after a month if you don’t want it anymore. You can’t download a kid then delete if parenthood isn’t for you. There is no compromise in this situation, only capitulation by one partner to the other and the one who capitulates will be miserable and resentful.

That would be my first impulse but I need to make something that will keep/freeze. I make a big thing and portion it out so my mother and brother can freeze some. That way they can always have something different on tap. So pasta dishes are out, except lasagna, which freezes well. So soups are popular, fortunately my mother loves soup. I made a frittata last week so I can't make another one. That's why I was thinking of the bulgur thing. I really only cook for them, I rarely cook for myself, I live on salad!
