Maybe...just maybe...they're figuring things out.

This episode didn't feature "Super Bode" for a change and actually showed how vulnerable the inmates were, almost powerless under the throes of what was ultimately a false accusation of theft against them.

It was especially poignant seeing the old man remark, "what's one more broken promise?"

Maybe it's a bit too Hollywood-y that the truth won out in the end, but, would we, the audience, want it to go any other way? I think it was the right choice.

Once again, Billy Burke stole the show along with Diane Farr, with Sharon being higher than a kite. Burke has this wonderful ability to be the calm, collected "voice of reason" those he's mentoring need him to be, while at the same being completely vulnerable and realizing he really doesn't have all the answers.

Vince feels like the kind of guy who tries to see the positive in everything even when he fails to see it. "God's got a plan for everything, right? Honestly, His plan kind of sucks". I don't think there's a better quote to sum up Vince's mentality than that.

Oh, and Sharon? The character is very wishy-washy, but Farr brings the human out of her. A lesser actress would have made the character unwatchable but Farr makes her a joy.

I still sometimes wish I could just get The Vince & Sharon Hour and leave it at that, but I'll take what I get.

As for other notes- it seems like the show is officially moving on from that awful love triangle, pairing Bode with the disgraced lawyer. This was also the first time I've watched Jake and Gabriella together and bought them as a couple. Whatever Jordan Callaway and Stephanie Arcila  were told to do in between filming the pilot and this episode is working and I hope they keep it up.

No Jules Latimer in this episode...I'm not sure that's a good sign. Hopefully it's just a one-off.

Lastly, "no" to Manny's gambling problem. It may not be unrealistic, but it feels like such a "tack-on" problem and it's a cliche at this point. I hope they don't go too far with it right now.

And that, kids, is why you don't have inmates working around houses.  Some of them will steal stuff; it's in their nature.  Even if they don't, they may be accused of it by the residents, so keep them out in the brush on the fireline.  And that captain should have a new asshole ripped for putting his crew in that spot to begin with, but that's part of the plot.

I love how all the taproom customers were just going on about their IPA lunch even though there's a firefighter in full SCBA staring at them.

Aww, Bodie has a new girlfriend.  Maybe they can just push their bunks together to be cozy.  SMH.

I hated Jake telling Gabriella that nobody could have done anything different. Maybe they could have listened a little sooner to the guy trying so obviously to tell them something. It wouldn't have saved him, but it would have gotten his wife out faster.

So, were we supposed to think that Manny kept the fancy watch that Bode handed to him and he was going to use it to pay off his debt, but when he saw that his convict team were all going to get sent back to prison for stealing it, he dropped the watch in the debris and the women found it?

Sharon a little high was pretty funny.

Very smart move, Bode.  You want to keep out of trouble so you can get early release, so you have sex with a female convict?  What could go wrong?

Well, that's a statement that completely misses the facts on why most people are incarcerated. The biggest grifters, the ones who steal the most, are the ones that many idolize as geniuses and heroes. They are among us - actually, they are the the pedestal that many built for them, so "above" us, and above the law.

No, the watch Bode turned over was not the heirloom watch the woman was looking for. When she came to apologize, she revealed that the one they found in the debris was fairly “unrecognizable” due to the fire damage. And of course, if the other one (probably pricey as well) was returned to her, she wouldn’t have thought anything of it, because it wasn’t the one she was concerned about. What we don’t know, is if the expensive, non-heirloom watch actually was returned to her. Hmm….

This.  Where did he get the $10,000 to make the bet at the casino?

I just discovered this show and binged all of it on demand.  It's cheesy, sure, but it's not bad.  Better than a lot of the other network offerings lately.

Freddy cut his hand and was put on kitchen duty, so he just disappears?  I don't remember seeing him in the most recent episode.

An observation: Im most TV shows, the actors are ok. Not great, but not bad. Some of them can even do great on certain scenes. They go through the motions, and they do the job. TV is not an actors venue anyway, good TV depends more on the writing than anything so acting skills are not really what makes a show. At times some actors make themselves look very good due to a character and we tend to see them as magnificent actors.

Then, there are the ones who cannot act if it is to save their lives. Everything they do comes out as fake, too much, too little, it is all wrong. That's the case with the actress playing Gabriela. She is bad. She is really, really  bad. Overacting and unconvincing in her attempts to show emotion. The writers and directors should get together and devise a plan to get her to fade to the background - write fewer lines to her - and to coach her a little more intensely. She needs time to get her stuff together because she is unwatchable. Or move her to the other pit of bad acting and terrible writing that is the 911 franchise. She will fit well there

I found the last scene to be unbelievable.  Two inmates who can’t control their lust  when Bode is trying to get out of prison for his mom.  Especially with a new CO just itching to send them all back to prison

I can’t second fast enough the notion that Gabriella needs to go.

Oh, thanks for explaining that! I saw this episode for the first time last night (in rerun), but unfortunately I kept dozing off during the last 20 minutes or so! I was trying to figure out how the watch was found (I assumed Manny had taken it), but then Manny still came up with $10K to bet at the casino!

Two watches, that explains things!

And I didn’t realize at first that it was a rerun, and kept wondering why the storyline seemed like such a backtrack  (Sharon not wanting to tell her friend about the kidney, Jake & What’sherface talking about moving in together, Bode hooking up with Rebecca, even Manny gambling - I thought he’d relapsed!)

I was ready to yell at the TV - “OK, Cap, you won that hand - now walk away! Walk away!!! Knowing, of course, that he can’t.
