Sam and Dean investigate a series of murders based on fairy tales.

Not a particular favorite...I really don't like the whole idea that Dean would think that Sam would just let him go. Makes no sense to me. And the fight at the beginning is far more bicker than banter than I prefer these arguments to be.

However, the actual case of the week isn't too bad of an idea. I really like the old lady and the lost hikers bit, but find it laughable that they would just randomly walk by the house that has a pumpkin on it's porch and it screams Cinderella so much that they don't even bother knocking on the door but barge in with guns ablazin', but whatever. I also don't understand how the little girl is possessing people but also standing by watching the scenes, but whatever again. I did think the idea of a comatose girl trying to get someone's attention was a good concept, though.

Another thing...what's with fairy tales meaning you're a girl. There's no way that Dean, an experienced hunter, doesn't know about these fairy tales no matter how manly of a man he is. Especially the Grimm and/or Anderson's versions since so much of what they do is wrapped up in these old stories and where a lot of the "lore" comes from. Just can't wrap my head around that one.

But to end on a positive...Sam as a sketch artist is humorous as is Dean going after the big bad wolf being the weirdest thing he ever said. Plus, Sam shooting Jared's then-girlfriend in the head amuses me far more than it should.

ETA: Thinking on the Dean not knowing fairy tales more...it would have been more interesting if Sam throws out the possession theory and then Dean was the one to figure the fairy tale angle. Dean's usually far more hip with the pop culture stuff and it would have been interesting to learn that possibly Dean hated Disney flicks simply because they sanitized the lore and made them innocent entertainment for kids or something like that.

That's two he's killed on show!  The lesson here.  Don't be Jared's gf and expect to survive the show.  I'm not sure if Jensen ever dated Ona Grauer, the crossroads demon he made the deal with in AHLB, but I know they were friends IRL I would love to see Ona back. She was great and her and Jensen were steamy together.  whew.  She survived right?

I didn't like this episode. It just seemed so grim (see what I did there?) and ugly all around for some reason. Almost everybody died, Sam killed the crossroads demon's host.... just ugly.

The one bright spot was the fun with Sam's drawing, but even that I had to fanwank that Sam just couldn't perform under pressure, because we saw Sam sketching at least passably in "Home" when he was sketching the home and the tree from his nightmare.

I thought the whole fairytale theme could have been so much more, but they gave it short shrift to save five or six minutes at the end for Sam's crossroads encounter.  I would have much preferred that the case of the week got the full hour, and they had a separate episode that was all about Sam making his way to the crossroads for that confrontation.  They really had to shortcut to a conclusion which diminished the story.  And the cop impersonation bit is getting a little old by this point.  Where were the real cops at the hospital following those attacks?

The comatose girl looked incredible for being in a coma for 10+ years.  I mean really, nice red lips and cheeks, silky hair.

So what happens to big bad wolf?  Does his claim temporary insanity?

Gotta admit, wasn't surprised Sam decided to off the crossroads demon anyway.

I'd all but forgotten this one. Good casting for the three brothers. Actually, all the guest stars are pretty good in this one, if not particularly memorable. This one has so many victims. I feel like this might be the record for individual attacks in an episode.

"You're not Dad!" "No, but I am the oldest!" Someone's been playing that card a very long time.

I think she's not full-on possessing them, so much as influencing them. They did call it a trance.

Jared Padalecki's eyes are magical. In the scene where he talks to the doctor in Callie's room, they look full-on dark blue for a little while there. I'm usually so busy checking out Dean's eyes, I forget, but damn this boy's got the most color-shifty eyes I've ever seen.

Jared's first fiance complaining about Ruby being a pain in the ass amuses me more than it should. I know they broke up before he even met Gen, but still. I will always be amused that the Sam Winchester girlfriend curse is effective for both Sam and Jared.

At first, I thought the same thing, but then I thought about the implication here. When his Mom died, Dean was what, 4? At that point, his life turned into a string of hotels and watching over Dean. His bedtime stories were about werewolves and white ladies rather than the Big Bad Wolf and Cinderella. He missed this shared cultural experience and he only heard about these stories in horror flicks and porns (hee).

Well, maybe it was something they did while keeping her in an acute care facility instead of a long term care option. 😆   the entire episode was a little depressing. There can be no justice against a stepmother who died years ago, so now you have a father who has nobody left. He has the tarnished memory of a wife he loved who it turns out tried to kill his daughter and the guilt of knowing he brought her into his home plus the guilt of inspiring a string of murders. We have several innocent people who are accused of murders and assaults they don't remember and several traumatized victims including a child whose grandmother had custody of her. That is legitimately dark even for a show that routinely has innocent people suffering and dying.

That being said, I loved the concept of a girl acting out fairly tales. And I liked the ending. Sam taking out the crossroad demon (though, poor human hostess).

The actress was Jared`s fiancé at the time.

That is such a funny detail

I used to find it quite cute and funny back then, too, but with what I read about their break-up, real life now kinda intrudes in an uncomfortable way in this scene.

That’s interesting. All I’ve ever read was that they had an amicable split.

Of course all were rumors but apparently his entire family didn`t speak to him for weeks because he was pretty heartless to her, first with the cheating and then with the dumping. If there is truth to it, the scene takes on a mean-spirited meta-level in hindsight. That jus makes me not want to revisit it at all.

Oh wow that’s pretty horrible!
