I don't know if it's the truth but I can believe it if they're getting rid of him after the first season. They did pretty much ruin him as a potential love interest but I don't think that'd be enough for him to get the boot. 1 Link to comment

Irlandesa December 15, 2022 Share December 15, 2022 Yeah. It'll be great news once it airs. There have been so many "renewal" reversals lately. 1 1 Link to comment

Cranberry December 18, 2022 Share December 18, 2022 Not just one of their most-streamed shows, but the top original show on the streamer. I think it's safer than most. 2 Link to comment
atomic July 10, 2023 Share July 10, 2023 Renee Rapp's leaving the show. 🙁 She'll appear in a handful of episodes for season 3 and then be written off. https://deadline.com/2023/07/renee-rapp-to-exit-maxs-the-sex-lives-of-college-girls-1235433259/ 1 2 Link to comment
Cranberry July 10, 2023 Share July 10, 2023 No! She's the best character. Page Six has more details: Quote Another insider insisted there were no issues — ego-driven or otherwise — between Rapp and Kaling themselves, but confirmed that Rapp, who plays openly gay student Leighton Murray on the hit series, announced a big music tour without getting permission from her show boss. ... “Renée wanted to leave the show to tour and they’re currently working out the best creative solution for her departure, but she announced the tour without having clearance from the show,” says the insider. ... Kaling, 44, who currently has another hit on her hands with the huge success of Netflix teen show “Never Have I Ever,” doesn’t want Rapp to leave, according to sources, as it will break up the core four characters, played by Pauline Chalamet (actor Timothée’s sister), Amrit Kaur and Alyah Chanelle Scott. We’re told that Rapp has said she’s willing to film scenes to make her exit seamless as opposed to just vanishing, but Kaling is trying to get her to stay more permanently. 1 1 Link to comment

aghst October 30 Share October 30 Ok, gonna have to watch a recap somewhere. Feels like 2 years since the last season was released. Too bad they're getting rid of the one character who was a mainstay but if she had a contract, how does she just bail and do her own thing? Link to comment

I feel like there was some news that one or maybe more of the other women were kinda biphobic towards her so that probably contributed to TPTB letting her out of her contract. I Googled and there was an article discussing it. Renee Rapp said that she felt cared for by the people with whom she works now as compared to the past kind of implying that all her previous work experiences were terrible. (I always kind of side eye that.) It was the author who referred to the rumors, but it sounded like that sentence took the internet by surprise because no one had heard of those rumors. The author treated them as more well-known than they were if there were even those rumors. 15 hours ago, aghst said: Too bad they're getting rid of the one character who was a mainstay but if she had a contract, how does she just bail and do her own thing? She probably has a contract but the truth is that if a star of a show really and truly wants to leave, most shows aren't going to hold them to their contract and stop them. They'll probably tell them that they can't join another TV show for a certain period of time. Or maybe not even do movies for a certain period of time. Maybe Rapp focuses on music for a bit was guided by some restrictions. Another thing she likely did to get out of the contract was agree to show up for a few episodes this season to get written out so they're not doing an off-screen goodbye the way they had to write off her brother. But they really can't force anyone to show up to work. The only thing they can do is restrict someone from taking another job. Link to comment
chitowngirl October 31 Share October 31 Considering it’s season 3, the characters are only going into their sophomore year, and the actors are in their late 20s/early 30s (Reneé Rapp is the closest to character age at 24), will we actually see them through graduation? At the rate of production, they will be hitting 40 before that happens! 😄 1 1 Link to comment

I found a thread on Reddit that said she hired a top attorney to get her out of the contract. Sounds like she also announced her music tour on Reddit before it was agreed she could get out of the show to do it, which was probably to put pressure on the producers. It sucks because her character had one of the most interesting storylines. Edited Tuesday at 12:17 AM by KaveDweller 1 1 Link to comment
