jewel21 March 13, 2021 Share March 13, 2021 When a local business owner is gunned down in his shop, it becomes personal for Atwater, who patrolled the neighborhood as a young cop. Dep. Supt. Samantha Miller comes to Voight with a special request about Andre Cooper. Airdate: 03/17/2021 Link to comment
FnkyChkn34 March 18, 2021 Share March 18, 2021 Usually I can walk in and out of the room and do other things while watching and follow along just fine, but I clearly missed some stuff last night. Is there a reason why Burgess has been tied to a desk the past 2 weeks? Not that I'm complaining, but it seems weird. I did catch Hank say that there are only 6-7 officers in his unit, and he hand picks them, but then the woman said she could assign anyone she wants. So which is it? Also, why would the number fluctuate? And it's only 5, not counting Voight, isn't it? Atwater, Halstead, Upton, Burgess, and Ruzek... They need to replace Al and Antonio, and Mouse, for that matter. I also didn't catch if the new guy would be sticking around or not, but I guess he'd make 6. Link to comment

There was the female cop (Rojas??) that we haven't seen for awhile. What happened to her? The entire dynamic with the "new guy" was stupid. Either be a cop and do the job, as required, or transfer out and become a "big brother." A first time UC assignment and he goes rogue. I ain't buying it. I guess this is just the 'rotation' policy that they have, they have zero ability to integrate all characters into a story so either Burgess or Atwater mainly get shafted to desk duty every few weeks. While Burns & Houlihan can't possibly go anywhere without each other so it's either Burgess & Ruzek or Ruzek & Atwater, with the third wheel of the week given two lines at most & left back at the station. They can't write a cohesive story for the characters they have, & they screwed up Rojas completely so I have no idea why we need another newbie or how they are going to use him. Is he just Atwater's new undercover gun/drug buyer sidekick? And where the hell has Platt been for the past few weeks? I feel like Eid has an ageism issue. In saying that, considering that Antonio, an original cast member got a two second mention & Burgess just wiped his name off the board she was never going to get all that much attention. AnnA March 20, 2021 Share March 20, 2021 (edited) I finally got around to watching this week's episode and had to rewind it a few times because I wasn't paying attention. It's sad that the story wasn't good enough to keep me interested. This week's basic storyline was way too familiar. How many times are they going to put someone undercover have them befriend a good/bad guy and that guy gets killed? My other issue is that I often have a problem understanding Atwater. His voice is low and his speech muddled so I can't understand half of what he's saying. As far as Rojas is concerned, I'm happy she's gone. She contributed absolutely nothing to the team so IMHO didn't rate any goodbye story. Edited March 20, 2021 by AnnA 1 Link to comment
jalady March 20, 2021 Share March 20, 2021 ^^^ I agree about Atwater’s speech/diction. For a professional actor, he’s much too hard to understand. 6 Link to comment
Sake614 March 21, 2021 Share March 21, 2021 I’ve reached the point where I just turn on CC for this show. I can’t understand any of them! 2 Link to comment
Ailianna March 21, 2021 Share March 21, 2021 LaRoyce sounds like many people of color I know. I never have problems understanding him, though he is very soft-spoken. I like that no idea be made him change his natural voice. Link to comment
jalady March 21, 2021 Share March 21, 2021 For the record, I’m a person of color who knows and is related to many people of color. They don’t speak like LaRoyce. Just my experience . . . 4 Link to comment
Ailianna March 21, 2021 Share March 21, 2021 I think that goes to show that people in different places in America don't all speak the same way. I think that's a good thing. 2 Link to comment

I watch all TV shows and movies with the closed captioning on (except live sports). It's inevitable that at some point, I'm going to miss something that someone says, and it will have been an important line. That said, I don't find Atwater to be any more difficult to understand than any of the others on this show. (I've recently been watching Broadchurch, and even though I can usually understand a Scottish brogue just fine, I have trouble hearing David Tennant...) 1 Link to comment

The writers didn’t ask her to come back. They had nowhere to go with her character and was going to go in a different direction. Lisseth did a Instagram story replying questions asked . Someone asked her about Pd and she said wasn’t her choice to leave 1 Link to comment
catsitter April 12, 2021 Share April 12, 2021 I would have thought that Cooper's face and voice would have been all over the media since he was so close to the shooting in the previous episode, so surely he would have been the last person they should use undercover. Link to comment

I have the same problem with Matt Czuchry, who plays Conrad on The Resident. I would imagine all professional actors have taken voice/enunciation lessons. Link to comment
