Alaska: The Last Frontier - General Discussion
Ilovemylabs replied to Rhondinella's topic in Alaska: The Last Frontier
I think a lot of what is filmed is filmed purposely to be dramatic. It annoys me when they imply that if they don't catch enough fish or kill enough bear or deer that they may not have enough food for the winter. They are pretty well off and choose to live this way. It's great that they work so hard to provide for themselves, but they are not really subsistence living. I believe they live only about 10 miles from town. And they need fuel to power all their vehicles and tools. For them it is more a matter of maintaining a lifestyle begun by their father/grandfather. -
Alaska: The Last Frontier - General Discussion

I just watched the latest episode about the married partners. I love the women of this family, especially Jane. I noticed Eve has a little belly. Is that left over pregnancy fat or could she be pregnant again? She's always been so slender. -
Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

Yeah I agree. Just my rather old fashioned opinion, but most young couples now use that terminology. "We're pregnant." Heck no! She's pregnant but the both of you are expecting a baby. Again, just my opinion. -
This shows the Duggar's ignorance. Catholics honor Mary as Jesus' mother but they do not worship her. They ask her to be an intercessor for their prayers to Jesus. It's like asking a friend to pray for you, which the Duggars do often!

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

GEML how do you know this is why he was hired? Did he say it someplace or did FRC put out some sort of notification? Thanks! -
Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

Please do not equate Tea Party members with the FRC. SOME may lean that way, but most do not. I support Tea Party ideals but not the FRC. Many Tea Partiers are Libertarians. Generalizations are dangerous. Josh is really a light weight in the DC scene. I agree that he must absolutely get some education and begin to think about his future. And he does look pretty haggard. I sort of feel sorry for him. Not his fault the way he was raised. It must be difficult to try to adapt to the real world. -
You owe an apology to Alfred E. Newman.

I'm new to this site. Just an opinion and a couple of questions. These women cry A LOT!!! Every little thing sets them off. They cannot be truly happy. What is the AUB? How do Brady and his wives live differently from that group? Thanks!

As much as the Duggars drive me nuts I think it is somewhat insensitive to say Michelle should focus on the 19 kids she has that lived. I am not trying to offend anyone or the original poster with this remark. Whether you call it a miscarriage or a still birth she lost a child she wanted. And this was a video specifically dealing that event in her life. Were the Duggars approached for this video or did they set it up themselves for the television program? If they did not initiate the counseling session then I give her a pass on this.

S01.E01: I'm Not Ready!
Ilovemylabs replied to Meredith Quill's topic in The Sisterhood: Becoming Nuns [V]
That actress was Dolores Hart (starred in 2 Elvis movies among other things). She is now the Mother Superior at her convent. Bill O'Reilly recently interviewed her. She was cute---wore a black beret over her other head wear. (I think it's called a wimple?) -
19 Things I Hate About You: How the Duggars Infuriate
Ilovemylabs replied to Ljohnson1987's topic in Counting On
I have never actually seen/heard them say that they were better than other people. They put their lifestyle out there, but I don't think they've been smug about the way they live. They may exude that attitude, but hey, I think MY lifestyle is better than some others. What bothers me is that they give the impression (have actually said, I think) that their kids can do anything they want when they grow up when the kids are never given ( and are probably discouraged from having) the opportunity to get the education/training to do just that. None of their kids will do anything that requires a real college education. I feel sorry for the Duggars. They live in constant fear of the outside world. Thus their rules and regulations. They have fears and doubts so they build a wall of rules to govern their lives and keep the outside out. They may have traveled the world but they might as well have stayed at home for all they learned or were enlightened. They believe what they are doing is right, but, someone please enlighten me, when have they said 'we are better than..." as opposed to 'this is the way we choose to live our lives and here are our reasons. They way others live (including Amy) may be right for them but not for us.' Just my opinion. -
What proof is here that he is gay? And if he is, so what? There are so many gays who have suffered whether in the closet or out. I can't support gay rights and then mock him for being 'fabulous'.

19 Things I Hate About You: How the Duggars Infuriate

A couple of observations about this video. First Michelle looks noticeably younger there. Was this taped after they finally moved in to the new house? Second, Jim Bob often calls Michelle "mama". This always bugs me, but I think it might be a regional thing. Finally, I heard once that Michelle wears a headpiece. I think it's pretty obvious in the video. Her back hair is very long and rather straight. The front is on top of her head behind her bangs.short and curly. Looks like she pinned a curly hairpiece on the top of her head behind her bangs. -
S09.E18: Amy's Nashville Dreams
Ilovemylabs replied to bigskygirl's topic in 19 Kids And Counting [V]
I like Amy. I enjoy her enthusiasm and determination. I thought she looked gorgeous at Jill's wedding. I have no idea if she has the stuff to make it as a singer, but good for her for following her dreams. It takes guts and has to be scary at times. My husband and I were recently on the Branson Belle boat where she sang. It is truly a huge audience and she kept it together while she had the problems with the audio. I wish her the best. If she uses the Duggar name, so what? A lot of celebrity's kids do the same...Kardashian, Will Smith's kids, Josh Brolin, etc. The name might open a door but it doesn't assure success. Good luck Amy and Happy Thanksgiving everyone. -

Ditto from me, GEML! -
All else aside, I loved some of those pictures on the Duggar website, especially the husband who shaved his head when his wife underwent chemotherapy.

LOL!!!!! Everything old is new again.

I like that she put her hair up. Here's hoping she and Jessa do that more often!

I agree. When my kids were little a McDonald's birthday party was simple and all the rage (easy for Mom!). My grandkids go to much more elaborate parties now with ponies. clowns, bouncy houses, elaborate goody bags, and more. It seems like everyone wants something unique and a little better than the last party. It would be interesting to see what would happen if these modern kids had an old fashioned at home party with pin the tail on the donkey, cake and ice cream, simple games, and those 'cracker' things you pulled at both ends that snapped. There was a paper hat inside usually. Those are the parties in my memory.

Thank you Jellybeans for putting into words what I was thinking but unable to express.

OK I know the consensus in this forum is that David Waller is gay, fighting his urge to be gay, in the closet gay, etc. but I watched the 'reveal' episode and I just don't see it. He is boyish looking, to be sure, but I just don't see the gay thing that many others do. Just my opinion.

Regarding fundamentalism and orthodoxy: I have been reading an excellent book entitled Why Faith Matters by Rabbi David J. Wolpe. I want to quote something he wrote that is worth thinking about and perhaps discussing. "In our time the violence of fanatics, murder in God's name, has persuaded some that religion has led us astray. Such fanatiicism is not a product of belief, but of the insecurity of disbelief. The renowned theologian Reinhold Niebuhr wrote, 'Frantic orthodoxy is never rooted in faith but in doubt. It is when we are not sure that we are doubly sure.'" I think this explains many (not JUST Christian) fundamentalists. When you have secret doubts, STRICT adherence to outward actions ( manner of dress, food you eat, how your raise your children, social views on dating and marriage, etc.) can assuage those inner fears. Just my opinion. I highly recommend the Wolpe book. It gives one much food for thought.

Alaska: The Last Frontier - General Discussion

Well, the Kilchers themselves are wealthy and use outhouses! I just can't imagine using one in the dead of winter...or in the dark! The moving the outhouse episode grossed me out. -
I totally agree, but slowly? I think they've been there a while. We get it. You are married and can kiss and have sex. Get over it!
