  1. Update: AP Bio has been picked up. I'm happy for Glenn, but dang, y'know?
  2. Welcome to Gotham, where it's impossible to stop giving a fuck when you never gave a fuck to begin with. Seriously . . . homages to Burton and Schumacher?!? Richard Kind's character referred to as a "ding dong"? Nygma vamping it up and killing actors? I should be rolling my eyes, and I do . . . but not as much as I should. None of the DC shows on the CW are this insane, even with time getting wrecked on a regular basis.
  3. Funny115: Colton tries to work with Tarzan. Also: Christina has no friends, and Leif can't put on a buff and a hat at the same time. Had Brad introduced himself to Survivor audiences by jacking Colton up, I think we'd like him a little more.

@Silver Raven . . . as a fan of a star-crossed team, I feel your pain. But the Giants won three titles in the span of five years, after going over a half-century in San Francisco without one. Mets fans have waited three decades for a title. The team isn't on par with the formerly hexed franchises, but it gets irritating when parts start flying off, and the Yankees start surging into people's minds for the right reasons.

Bright side for the Mets . . . the Giants' farm system is crap (I forget who posted that on the Minors thread), so the team can look at potential replacement parts that could be had for mid-level prospects.

Yankees/Cubs are in the sixteenth inning. Suggestion: If a game go beyond 4.5 hours and/or 14 innings, pitchers are replaced by a coach and a pitching machine. Any ball that hits the machine would be out of play, and the coach is not allowed to touch the ball. ETA: Fudge it, I'm waiting to see if the game goes past eighteen innings. Would the specter of Ernie Banks manifest and shoo everybody off the field?
  7. Here's where I went from the URL. How will I know when I can do stuff on it? No mention of the 100th episode aside from the "C" bit in the credits.
  8. I don't know anything about accents from Japan and what qualifies as "hick" over there. I have faint memories of Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, but that's it. ETA: Do higher-ranked folks carry around potatoes to give to Sasha for a good job? And it's about time we got to go to the lab of Eren's dad. I suggested we'd see baby Titans in jars, and I stand by that.
  9. This week: more WTF for everybody who never read the book. Like myself. Shadow getting offered to see Lucille Ball's breasts, which . . . huh? I'm 41, and I never thought of her like that. I know, that's the point, but still. Exposed dicks, cow slaughter, and the god lady sucking in lover after lover. I really hope we don't see her naked that often. Only Thandie Newton's gynecologist is more familiar than her than the average Westworld fan.
  10. Trailers for me: Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Basically a catalog of Disney's future hits. I heard somebody suggest a holiday special. Given that Drax is red and green, I welcome that. Would Groot have to be decorated? Would he want that? ETA: Did a search. The blond mini figure I got is Ayesha. But wasn't she golden-hued throughout the movie? ETA2: Here are the sketches I got after the original movie. I'm contemplating Canon Ego with Kurt Russell's face. Too weird?
  11. I liked Tom, even though his partnership with the far cuter Ian disintegrated. I don't think anybody could get away with what he pulled off: winning all but two individual immunities, and not getting a vote the times he was vulnerable. Here's a reason to like him: Probst never will. He doesn't like his alpha guys with years on them and silver hair.
  12. Good movie. Not sure if it was a half-star better or worse than the original. I will say that the letdown isn't as present as it was for Iron Man, Thor, and The Avengers. I mean, everybody's more quippy, and a lot is put on Groot's tiny shoulders, but it's still fun. Anybody else think that this took place a short time after the original GotG? We went from "1980" to "34 Years Later," so that's where my mind went. Meaning that when the Avengers eventually go to space, the Guardians could look a lot different. Minimum, Groot would look like something voiced by Vin Diesel. I don't want to think about Teenage Groot. "What th- . . . sap?!? Man, that's what we have bathrooms for!!" Also: if the story is set in 2014, you think the gang from Agents of SHIELD got involved? I imagine Phil Coulson leading a convoy to where energy readings were detected, see the giant blob, say, "Hell, no, I ain't dying again," and hauled ass away. Nice for the writers to try and make Ego into a flesh-and-blood character, especially that the canon is a planet with a beard. Does Kurt Russell qualify as being anywhere near the same league as Tom Hiddleston? I mean, Ego was a good villain. What I didn't need to see was graphics of his many, many couplings. Thought: if Doctor Strange was Green Lantern done right, you think maybe this was a jab at Ang Lee and Hulk? I liked that movie, but Peter battling his ludicrously-powered father? You gotta think. And maybe Rocket's a fill-in for the Hulk Dogs. Okay, probably not. RIP Yondu. Didn't think the fin was removable. Now I'm wondering how much fanart there will be of Norman Reedus painted blue and red. Here's a poster I made back in 2014 using the motivation engine: While I'm posting stuff, maybe you can help me. Last week, I went to a comic show and got a GotG-themed mystery pack. Who is this supposed to be? I thought it was Ayesha, but it's not gold. As for the multiple endings: I knew about "Adam," though I'm not really into the heavy space opera characters. Didn't recognize that Sly's pals are based off the original Guardians, even though they predate the popular versions by at least three decades. Michelle Yeoh, Ving Rhames, and the least embarrassing Lex Luthor of the 21th Century?!? Dang. And we got Watchers! I mean, their heads weren't huge, but maybe they're supposed to look like the original did in the Galactus/Silver Surfer arc in Fantastic Four. I feel bad that they gotta listen to Stan ramble. ETA: If you get a "Pint-Sized Hero" pack, there is a 1-in-24 chance of getting Taserface. Just thought y'all should know. I got a Rocket (1/12) yesterday. As luck would have it, I already had another raccoon-based hero on my desk.

"You see, honey, I call it 'The Dark Knight' because it spends most of the time in darkness. But when he arrives, you'll know." "Godda- . . . not in the clubhouse! Never in the clubhouse!!!" ETA: Fucking hell, nobody told the new guy never to pitch to Giancarlo Stanton?!? Only way he could hurt the Mets harder is if he joined the Nationals.
  14. Meant to mention that last night. RIP "Kylie." That would have been the couple name, right?

No word on why Matt Harvey got suspended for three days. Is it time to consider the Mets a cursed franchise? Before the Cubs broke their hex, I figured the Mets were "second-tier jinxed," but I think they might earn the promotion.
  16. I thought "Peter" because I'm a gaijin. And I'm not blaming Chi Chi that much. I mean, she wants the best for her kids and granddaughter. Watching Mr. Satan and Gohan fight and fling up in the air must be unnerving to watch. I mean, Pan is only quarter-Saiyan. Even with whatever potential her mother and grandfather have, why take a chance? In other news, Goku is super annoying. It's not like he wants to keep Vegeta down below him, but he needs an excuse to train and grow stronger. And if that means going Kool-Aide Man through a wall? So be it. Hey, Krillin has a job! And he bones Bulma! Good for you, Krillin!
  17. Technically, Chris Pine is not a superhero actor. He's played James Kirk and Steve Trevor. No heroes . . . not yet. Was this Nineties Night with the writing staff? They nailed Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego? with their own Rockapella, and then there were white women channeling Brandy & Monica's "The Boy Is Mine."
  18. Am I naive to believe that Jack has never felt that way for anybody? I mean, he probably gets the core concept, but I'm thinking his adolescence was fully spent training to defeat Aku. Then he went to the future, and he probably didn't have time for romance. Then he lost his sword and fell into a half-century depression. No dates, no guidance. He probably can barely process his feelings towards Ashi, let alone remember he's old enough to be her grandfather.
  19. I think the episode was written on a dare. "Haunted house? We can do that! What else ya got?!?" "Wood lice." "Like in Frontios? Sure! Can you make it more challenging?" It was a good episode, even with the CGI lice and the horror that the landlord was keeping alive. Do British kids usually pool together money to share a house? It felt a lot like The Real World, minus the alcohol. And horrific alien lice. I think I know who/what the Doctor is keeping in the vault, but it might be related to a casting spoiler from last month. Nardole gets little to do, but it looks like he'll see action next week.

I was watching something else live, but I had WPIX on earlier. I tune in, the Mets are in rain delay. I rewind, and I got to see Asdrúbal Cabrera hurt himself diving for a ball. And then the umpires figured it was good time to call in the tarps. I know shit like this can happen to any team, but it's not fun where it feels like all of the calamities land on your favorites.

This is how I see the New York baseball scene these days . . . "We turn to the Bronx, where Aaron Judge is averaging one home run every other game. Major League Baseball has tested him for performance-enhancing drugs, including once in the batter's box in the ninth inning of a close game. But Judge filled the cup without complaint, then hit a walk-off grand slam home run. It traveled 450 feet, yet still had enough force to knock a young girl out of her wheelchair. But then she got up and walked for the first time in her life. The other teams from the American League East have conceded, and it's a given that Aaron Judge will retire with as many rings as Saint Derek, if not moreso. Also, more nines and tens than any of us poor schmucks will see in our lives. "Moving to Flushing, where the Mets struggle to keep afloat. Six of their starting pitchers are on the disabled list, two of those are down for the season. The only bright side came when Tim Tebow was called up for a spot start and only gave up three runs in two innings. Jay Bruce had a memorable night last week, homering four times in the first four innings. But when he crossed home plate on the final dinger, he tripped, fell, and broke both his arms. Then the rain came down, negating the Mets' 20-3 lead, as well as Bruce's mark. Sandy Alderson has stated that he believes in manager Terry Collins, but that he will be given razor blades on a case-by-case basis. Also. all bleach containers have been banned, and the clubhouse is constantly checked for sturdy ropes."
  22. Caught last week's episode. Not much action, but the anime does seem to remember that it's not merely supposed to be centered on the intricacies of that world. Gon & Killua try to get the drop on the Phantom Troupe, but the Phantom Troupe gets the drop on them first.
  23. Just checking to see if anybody else is following the series. Gotta love rats making money off a human baby. Tonight is the conclusion to a Godfather-style two-parter with cats. And the guy who played Big Pussy on The Sopranos . . . voices a cat named Big Pussy. Hey, why not?
  24. If you want to talk about the manga, this is the place to do it. Ditto for the various spinoffs and retallings. Truth be told, I have not touched the manga. The only book I've gotten is Attack on Titan Anthology, which had American creators taking on the mythos. I found out last year through a Free Comic Book Day offering from Kodansha Comics. There was good stuff based on and about the manga/anime. Faith Erin Hicks had a coming-of-age story akin to Eren/Mikasa, with a biggest weakness for the Titans. Genevieve Valentine and David Lopez pop up to do a young woman reporter's travelogue of the AoT world. The big draw for me was Evan Dorkin doing gag strips, with stuff like Sasha feasting on a freshly-killed Titan, the unhinged four-eyed lady's quests to defeat the Titans, and Eren unsuccessfully trying to transform. I'm posting today because Kodansha will be putting out a FCBD issue tomorrow from Jody Houser and Emi Lenox. I don't know if there's going to be another book anytime soon, but it's fun to see Western takes on Eastern favorites.
  25. Kaneki can't catch a break. Basically, he's like the girl cat with black fur that got white paint on its back, and Tsukiyama is basically Pepe Le Pew, with the lust and the gratuitous French. Or maybe he's supposed to be Gambit. And now Touka got a taste of Kaneki before him. That's gotta suck.
