  1. Poking around the Comic-Con site because I hate myself, and I found this: [adult swim]: Robot Chicken Looks like the show will be coming back soon. Not sure how much mileage they can get from The Walking Dead, but I'll watch anyway.
  2. Good stuff. I never thought Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield needed to be shelved in their non-finale movies, but I think Tom Holland did a good job. For one thing, he looks like a damn teenager. He's dorky, but it's not an overwhelming dorky like with Tobey. Vulture is kind of digging into the barrel, but credit to the writers for making Adrian not be a villain with brain damage (or lizard-brains, in Curt Conners' case). Nice idea to make him a literal scavenger, far from the feeble punching bag most readers have seen. The guy after the first credits . . . was that Electro? I thought he had a lightning bolt scar. Anything would be an improvement over Jamie Foxx. Sorry, but that's true. I don't have a problem with the multi-ethnic casting. I mean, if people genuinely bothered by that don't show, Disney and Marvel won't be hurting for their money. I heard the guy playing Flash Thompson got death threats . . . why?!? The idea was to set the story at a high school where Peter would fit in . . . and since you can't imagine that one having a football team, we get Pompous Ass Flash, with an IQ over 100. That bugged me a tiny bit. More bothersome: lack of "spider sense." Lack of common sense is to be expected for a 15-year-old, but no way should he have been caught unawares by Ned and May. I'm also good with the lack of origin, though I anticipate people speculating that the guy playing Uncle Ben will be Joe Pesci. And since when is May Italian? Also, I'm thinking May will be Peter's more responsible younger sister in the reboot for 2042. Anybody else want to strangle a Marvel exec for that last scene? Having Chris Evans troll the audience wasn't cool. Not his fault, but we're waaaaaaaaaay too dependent on the after-credits stuff. That's why I get a small soda going in . . . it's cheaper, and I don't want to be in severe pain waiting for the next dollop of MCU.
  3. Having a weird moment. Yesterday, a lady posted a picture on a Challenge group, which was her with Kenny. Immediately, the thread filled up with Kenny-love and people generally getting the vapors. I'm there, all, "I'd want to hurt him, but I'd probably suppress the urge." Inevitably, the conversation shifted to that topic . . . and then I read this response: Good God. I'm on the same side as Beth. I mean, I know that's not the wrong side, at least in my mind. Maybe there's a baseline of bitch that she doesn't cross. Maybe she wouldn't post pictures of Montana in traction (not wishing for that, just posting a theoretical example), with the caption "Haha sux 2 B U!!!" Seriously, though, if it turns out Johnny made a deal with a dark power to win for his banned buddies, I wouldn't be that shocked. ETA: I hope I'm not being too critical. As much as I do not care for Beth's "work," I have been on the other side of, "Jesus Christ, I agree with him?!?" That is not fun, at least for me.
  4. Zev, the guy who had Asperger's. He lost the passport in TAR15, came back with Justin three seasons later, and they finished fourth, winning four legs.
  5. All episodes of Apollo Gauntlet are available on Adult Swim's site.
  6. For anybody with HBO . . . Popstar will "premiere" on the network this Saturday. I thought movies shown on Cinemax first were shuffled into HBO without any fanfare. Anyway, it's there if you want it, or if you know somebody with HBO and want to annoy that person to no end. "How do you think I got these scars?" "Wolves?!?" "Fuckin' wolves!!!"
  7. I've gotten one date from OKC so far. It went well, and we're still talking. I am still messaging women that I feel like I have lots in common with, but nobody else answers, and that's a bit discouraging. Meanwhile, Match sends me a "SHE CHOSE YOU!" e-mail at least once a week, but I am not going back there.
  8. I've been posting my old recaps on my blog, and I'm approaching Inferno. I've gone over the first four episodes, and holy shit, I was not a fan of Katie to start. Hated her so much before Road Rules started throwing missions. And I liked Holly and Christena, both of whom let me down. At one point, I suggested that Timmy and Holly would be the Judd and Pam of Road Rules. I'm amazed I didn't throw up looking back on that thirteen years later. Also, I wasn't full-on Team Coral back then, but I think I was with the majority of fans in detesting Julie. Melissa did everybody a favor in Battle Of The Sexes, and nobody can tell me different. Julie's "performance" in Inferno is proof of that.
  9. Rewatched the episode. "Jason" is a dumbass. "Okay, Keneki. I've squeezed every drop of fun and sadistic pleasure I could from you. You are better than Viagra, kid. But the show is over, now say goodbye. Huh . . . that's funny . . . you don't have the skin discoloration where your new digits grew out. And your hair is snow white. And you're not sobbing or screaming. Almost as if though you just had a hard truth revealed to you, and you have transformed into someone else. Something else. (pause) Naaaaaaaaaaaahhhh. Time to eat you and continue to not get any sort of comeuppance!!!"

Yeah, because there's no such thing as an automatic tarp anymore. Seriously, Yankees fans . . . be careful about Judge. I remember when Dwight Gooden exploded onto the scene in 1984, striking out 276 and spearheading the Mets' rise to prominence. He followed that up with a 24-4 record and a Cy Young Award at the age of 20. Then his numbers dipped, and nobody knew why. And then he tested positive for cocaine. I know, legendary Yankees don't pay as high a price for glory as Mets, but anything can happen. I mean, hasn't the Home Run Derby been proven to decrease dingers in the regular season? I'm not trying to hate . . .. but the kid is aiming for a Triple Crown in his motherfucking rookie year. That ain't right on any team.
  11. Watched three hours' worth of the show. The last episode . . . I don't remember everything about the anime. Is this the first time a Pokemon straight-up died? Yeah, the visuals were heavy on not saying it out loud, but it looks like Stoutland died, and it got the Mufasa treatment in the sky. The upshot is that Litten is moving on with its life, joining Team Ash. Very poignant stuff, even with Meowth watching from a distance, not getting picked up by Bewear. Given the franchise, I expect Stoutland to pop up alive and well at the version of the Alola League. It will turn out Brock found and healed it. And then he'd try to place his Onix onto Lillie (the one with Snowy the Alola Vulpix), Lana (Popplio) and Mallow (Steenee, which recently evolved from Bounsweet). Because Brock's gotta be Brock. ETA: And it will turn out Brock and Kiawe are related, because they are both tan as heck.

Mets/Nationals got rained out. That counts as a win for the Mets, right? Not hating, just curious . . . has a team ever had two of their own in the Home Run Derby?
  13. Here's IGN's list of 21 weird anime, in no apparent order: Assassination Classroom, Sekko Boys, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Makura no Danshi, Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo, Moyashimon: Tales of Agriculture, Samurai Pizza Cats, Unko-san, Akikan, Mawaru Penguindrum, Cat Soup, Paranoia Agent, Serial Experiments Lain, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Fooly Cooly (not listed as "FLCL"), Cromartie High School, Mad Bull 34, Ebichu, Pom Poko, Tonde Burin, Polar Bear Cafe.
  14. It's baaaaaaaaaaaack. In two weeks and change, but it's gonna be insane.
  15. Coming on July 29 . . . Needless to say, I am fucking stoked. Now I have to learn the words to "Roundabout."
  16. 10. Speed Grapher 9. Dead Leaves 8. Midori Days 7. Moyashimon 6. Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-Chan 5. FLCL (hey, it had to show up somewhere) 4. Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo 3. Yakitate!! Japan 2. Hetalia: Axis Powers (try not to contain your surprise) 1. Akikan! Honorable Mentions: Horizon In The Middle Of Nowhere, Lucky Star, Sleeping With Hinako (accompanied by 10-12 seconds of a girl -- assuming she's Hinako -- sleeping)
  17. Turns out Honest Trailers didn't officially do an ASM2 take . . . Cinema Sins did. Since Homecoming is nigh, here's a reminder of what came before: I don't remember outright hating it, but it could have been better, especially after X-Men: Days Of Future Past came out. This movie might be put into evidence for the Academy to take back the Oscar from Jamie Foxx. And the little girl at the end . . . she wanted to die, right? If this was a DC movie, I would've clapped my hands for it not sucking outright, then gave it a cookie.

What is the rationale behind starting a game at 11 a.m.? I get Patriot's Day in Boston, but why Washington?
  19. This is a list of weird anime from WatchMojo.com. I found a list of 21 from IGN, but that was shorter and doesn't go that in-depth. I knew about a few of the anime, but it's still an offbeat list.
  20. I don't think placement is Jesse's fault. "Holy motherfuc . . . this guy's alive!! We're gonna get flayed for this!" "We'll figure it out. You know, he has a butthole for a mouth. And ol' 'Dolph hasn't seen anything new in years." "Fuck it, why not? Give the guy something to talk about when he goes back to Earth." "With subtitles." "Duh. Obviously."
  21. "Now you'll never know if you got it right!!!" ". . . huh?"
  22. Turns out Eugene didn't try to kill Jessica. I think he wasn't the friendly goober in the comic before he became Arseface. He probably wasn't hellbound before last season. Now he's basically in No Exit, and Hitler just so happens to be nearby. And he's big enough a deal to have a highlights soundtrack backing him up. Natch. "God" was spoiled in the credits. Was there anything like him in the comic? Still jarring as hell, and it shows how futile the quest really is. On the bright side, we're closer to Herr Starr. And perhaps something canon will lead from the "Angelville" poster. Jesse looked scared.
  23. No special tomorrow, but we got this on July 11 at 9 p.m.: I don't know if the pre-episode specials will carry into Dirty XXX. I don't think MTV can conceive more categories honoring past and present Challengers.
  24. Cowboy Ninja! Towers of Power! A silver medalist!! Don't know about the female turnout; if the cable listings are to be believed, the "Fantastic Four" run next week. ETA: Good episode, with a lot of poignant stories. I will say that Maggi Thorne's pink ribbon was hard not to look at when she talked about her divorce. On a lighter note, Lance Pekus seems to be over last year's flameout, as well as two seasons of underperforming on Team Ninja Warrior.
  25. I just like the idea that could happen in the old days. Impregnating oneself via two incarnations . . . so weird, yet so logical, yet so Jerry Springer.
