  1. Why has it taken me this long to realize their names are Chip 'n Dale? Like, I know that the characters are Chip (the saddest little cloon) and Dale (ugh!), but I honestly never put it together before this episode! On topic, all of Louie Anderson's scenes made me love Christine so so much. The scene in the ocean really was everything!
  2. I was just thinking about this. One's abilities aren't predicated on his or her parent's occupation. Just because his mom can bake badass-ily doesn't mean he has any predisposition to be any good at it (and from what we've seen, he isn't).
  3. I understand so little of this show that it is pretty much like I haven't even been watching. I am now going to read the AV club recaps so that I can clarify what I saw. Maybe I need to be Catholic? I just don't get it.
  4. I got motion sickness and had to step away after watching Lenny's eye and then Esther's eyes moving back and forth so quickly during that little scene (but it is flu season, so I could be getting sick). I felt like the acting was super obvious even more in this episode, like I was watching a (VERY advanced) middle school play; I don't believe that Jude Law and the guy playing his bff have ever met before.
  5. This is going to sound so gross, but I need to share because I realized it watching the latest episode. Jason's mannerisms, his chocolate cheer, etc. remind me of an ex-boyfriend of mine. I was the ex-boyfriend's first kiss -- in our late 20s. I no longer like Jason. I only like Cole when he's not wearing his weird pink lipgloss/chapstick because it is a weird color or too much and is distracting (just like the girls' eye makeup in Seasons 1 and 2). Oh Kayla, Kayla, Kayla, Kayla. It is awesome to self identify as weird and different, but why are you taking up the space of a possible good baker when you've clearly never baked without strong adult guidance before? I did like her "So you've met my cake," but stick to your recipes, girl!!! Why didn't anyone correct Kaniyah? It's not cute, if she was the youngest, maybe possibly the first time she said the 80s it would be cute, but now I have bad feelings about her school district.
  6. Thanks! I don't know what car I thought she was driving.
  7. But really, how did Javier get TWO Range Rovers to Estelle's house? I did cry at the end and I am hopeful for a second season that will clear a lot up and not make me suspend disbelief too much.
  8. At least most of the kids this season don't sound stopped up and generally germy. So that's a plus?
  9. I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere (but really I just skimmed), BUT is it possible that the channel formerly known as ABCFamily and currently known as Freeform could un-cancel the show, which would allow for more 'mature-ish' episode themes like the original had?

I would like a 10 year follow-up on the 2 kids that were in the dessert round last night. Tell me they won't end up dating! So honestly what I really want the producers to stop doing is having the kids say how honored they were to be there and even though they didn't win they know we haven't heard the last of them and they will be a famous chef someday when all the kid wants to do is have a good cry. Let little Marty Gras cry!
  11. Did you know that if you look at enough pictures of Juan Diego Botto, he starts to look like Bronson Pinchot? Learn from my mistake and just let him be a pretty face on TV; the hired killer we want as our boyfriend but not really. But really, his performances are just so...great...I can't think of an adequate adjective to cover just how completely believable he is as Javier.
  12. I like that Duff talks to the kids as actual people and not babies. Like when the one girl got flour in her eyes, he checked to make sure she was alright and then laughed at/with her. I like that the girls this season weren't made up too much. I feel like on the first season a lot of the girls wore heavy lip gloss and full eye makeup, which I just thought was weird and then on the second season with Jane's pig tails (and I'm sure I can think up other examples) the girls looked too young. The 9 year old girl is my early favorite. The boys. Oh the boys...the taller, dramatic one is too dramatic for me. The one who either has a very strong accent or has a speech impediment could use some subtitles but I like him. The one who is "from a small town, next to a big town, next to a bigger town near the beach" reminds me so much of one of my friends that I need to remember to ask if she has a baking nephew. ETA: I'm not even eating it and I'm already tired of lemon stuff. Can they ban lemon?
  13. Over the summer there were young guys (maybe late teens, early 20s) standing on the sidewalks in full heavy suits I guess trying to get people to come inside. I tried giving them ice water I picked up from the Starbucks in the Target that's right there, but they wouldn't take it.
  14. Inspiration for a cross-over with FN and Travel Channel: Send Matt and Damiano to that island that Josh Gates had to be helicoptered into but with no cameras and then check up on them every year or so.
  15. The Church of Scientology in Atlanta is 1.2 miles away from me (not far from a Waffle House) and I would be willing to try to get audited For the Cause. I think I did it once in college for a free tshirt or hacky sack or something.
  16. This is probably a dumb-ish question, but can anyone help me figure out why I cannot stand Cheryl? She seems nice and knows what she's doing. She doesn't seem as braggy or whatever as that woman in the Halloween baking thing. Is it because she's so much cooler than I can ever hope to be? She put the can ripples in her cranberry cupcake topping and I my first thought was how much I hate her. :( I don't want to Mean Girl!
  17. I would be the one to stir something over and over and over again. I would probably also have issue putting on a table cloth, so all of this felt really real.
  18. I recognized a couple of people from former Halloween Wars episodes. It feels like there is so much possibility when the teams don't HAVE to carve a pumpkin! I didn't like the team that was eliminated OR any of the team names OR the guest judge, but I still like it more than Halloween Wars this year.
  19. I was only kind of paying attention while watching elimination part of the show because they get exhausting after a while, but was Maddie basically just eliminated (I won't say "sent home" because they're ALL sent home...they don't live at the studio) because she was so boring?
  20. I thought maybe I was being more sensitive to it then normal, but then I remembered he was just as horrible on the more recent episode. How can you cook good food with such a horrible personality! It's not UFC, it's Chopped...calm the F down dude!
  21. "I look macho, but I am really a carefully created Jenga-like set-up of precious glass snowflakes in human clothes." - That one baker, probably The guy who actually bothered me the MOST and who I definitely thought was going home was that one guy who didn't put leaves on this wreath because he has never seen leaves on wreaths (or whatever his reasoning was, I was only half listening...time change and all). He didn't complete one of the challenge elements! You can't go on a game show and then decide that you want to ignore part of the rules! Or okay, I guess you could, but that makes you look like a jerkasaurus!

Was that Sammy from Food Network Star Kids?
  23. So...nothing like Voltron? (I really do have work I'm pretending to do)
  24. It just occurred to me that maybe they're keeping her around so that they know where she is and Bobby Flay doesn't have to file an actual restraining order...
  25. It would be nice to know how the teams are determined. I casually watched a couple episodes from previous seasons when they were rerun in late September (I'm still super new to Food Network) and I just assumed that all three people somehow worked together as a career. But from watching every episode of this season, it occurs to me that maybe they were created during some sort of So You're Going To Be On Halloween Wars Orientation icebreaker game.
