  1. Clearly Jimmy is most "alive" when he is running a con. He likes that part of himself and the rush he gets from it. Marco's ring reminds me of the old Twilight Zone episode in which a homeless guy finds a pair of shoes that belonged to a deceased gangster and starts killing people that the gangster held a grudge against. The ring is a part of Jimmy's alter ego.
  2. Because Pryce is such a nebbish, Jimmy had to come up with something plausible. I thought he was going in the Plushy or Furry direction. The Squat Cobbler fit Pryce to a T.
  3. I thought Kim said "we" and Jimmy just repeated/highlighted it, but I didn't have the closed captioning on and I didn't go back to check. I'm a little afraid to hate Chuck too much, because VG zigs when you're expecting him to zag. I definitely don't like how Chuck has dogged Jimmy, but he is seething inside and resents the hard work he put into his career while Jimmy, without a fancy law degree (go Land Crabs!) and a professional background somehow uncovers the case that will make tons of money for everyone involved. I'll say it again: Chuck is just plain jealous.
  4. SailorGirl, I was thinking the same thing about the car roof. I even started laughing because it was a brilliant touch and did remind us so clearly of Jimmy's past. Last week after the first episode, I realized how watching Season 2 was like stepping into a pair of comfortable slippers. First of all, I love how the scenes are shot so creatively and with so much thought. The writing and acting is spot on. Once again, a Vince Gilligan production respects the intelligence of his viewers and I really appreciate that. When I saw the previews for Episode 2, I thought that maybe Jimmy's car was on its way to the Breaking Bad junk yard. Kim has some "moral flexibility," just like Jimmy. Most humans probably do.
  5. When Howard was at Chuck's house explaining to Chuck that all the elderly clients love Jimmy, Chuck seemed jealous. It isn't a big part of Chuck's skill set and it comes so effortlessly for Jimmy. And no matter what he might do, he can never be as charismatic as Jimmy is.
  6. Tentativelyyours, your post was a good one and made me think about what the point of Lester (from The Wire) was. A red herring?
  7. Before I book a room anywhere, I check the Bed Bug Registry. Coming home with bed bugs would be an absolute nightmare to me. For that reason, the mattress cleaner would be a welcome addition to hotels, as far as I'm concerned. Now if they could only bed bug proof the upholstered chairs, rugs, bedspreads, curtains, etc., I'd be all set. And I might be one of few people in the world who do this, but I leave my suitcase in the hotel room's bathroom, where there is less chance of a bed bug hitching a ride out.
  8. I found it interesting as well but figured to most of the folks, Kwame is very endearing, often seems like a deer in the headlights and people can't help but be kind to him. He's appears to be such a sweetie pie. With all this talk of Marjorie's failed paratha attempt, I'm dying for some good Indian takeout.
  9. The hospitals I've been to in the recent past don't need that kind of a mattress cleaner because the mattresses themselves are not covered in cloth or fabric, but plastic. Not sure how things are in smaller hospitals, but the ones I've been to are big city, well-known medical centers. I knew Mark was going to love that kid. Mark is Jewish and I figured he'd fall head over heels for the 80 yo Bubbe. Actually, the kid even looked like a mini-Mark. The kid is bright, ambitious and probably a really good bet. Glad to see him get a positive response. Even more refreshing was the fact that the kid wasn't going for the hipster "giving a fraction of each purchase to a deserving charity" b.s. angle which always annoys me. If I want my money to go to a charity, I'll donate it myself and don't need to be made to believe (because I don't) how righteous the company is. ETA--looks like starri beat me to it!
  10. For some reason, I was just thinking about how lucky we were that Philip wasn't around this week for this challenge. Can you imagine how insufferable he would have been, especially since he believes himself to an expert on all things food-related? We dodged the bullet.
  11. That's what I thought too. A sexual encounter can go awry very quickly if the two parties don't really know each other. Eric found out how it feels when you tell the other party to stop and s/he doesn't stop. Kevin totally manipulated those teammates into beating up Taylor, just like Leslie manipulates everyone into doing her bidding. Finally Coach Dan is on to her. I find Leslie to be a compelling figure; she is probably doing what she was hired to do, i.e., being a spin meister for the private school, taking whatever accusations are tossed their way and turning them into blaming someone else, making false accusations and not giving a shit about who gets hurt. In my opinion, she is has no soul.
  12. I could have lived without the last scene. Found it a bit jarring to end up as a buddy movie. Just very out of character in my estimation. Charlotte Rampling went from unhinged to affable in record time and the intensity of the series ended up being negated right then and there.
  13. Did anyone miss Man Bun? Anyone? Bueller? I have had enough of that presumptuous, clueless jerk to last a lifetime.
  14. I agree that Bill is toning it down a little. Biggest thing for me is that he's been able to put his money where his mouth is. Also he and Grady are getting along better, each knowing what the other's strong suit is. They've been able to work as a team learning more about the other partner's schtick and building some trust.
  15. Eric slashed his hookup with the bottle opener. At least that's what the closed captioning said and they wouldn't have used such a big deal sound effect (opening the beer, hearing the cap fall off as opposed to a twist top) if they hadn't wanted to convey that to the viewer. Binge watched the prior episodes over the weekend. Wanted to smack Leslie from the jump. Such a manipulative character. So scary for the people who unwittingly trusted her.
  16. One of the interesting things about Jimmy/Saul/Gene at the Cinnabon is that even though he isn't in prison, he might as well be, thus the opening scene of him being trapped in a "cell." During the Season 1 finale, Jimmy and Marco had a discussion about how Jimmy going straight and being a lawyer (instead of a con man) was like being in a prison. So every time Jimmy touches Marco's pinkie ring (which I noticed had tape around the back so it would fit.....the details are fantastic and I think it speaks to VG's respect for his audience), I think he's considering his options: stay in the legit world which is like a jail or take a chance, break some rules and enjoy the ride.
  17. Welcome back, Slippin' Jimmy. Didn't realize how much I've missed this show. Great writing, great acting, great chemistry among all the actors and great attention to details. Watched the rerun of last season's finale and was so glad I did because it helped with the continuity. Hooray for Jimmy flipping that switch. He's tired of doing the right thing.
  18. Any thoughts on where Lester comes in? Is he just representing the American interest in the truth algorithm that Alex developed?
  19. I wasn't sure if Scottie offed himself or it the menacing taxi driver (wasn't that the same one who drove Danny to the meeting with the Italian Stallion) was instructed to kill him and make it look like a suicide. Scottie knew they would be coming for him, so he might have left a note in anticipation of his demise. I really do love this show.
  20. BBQ ribs would have been an excellent dish. Maybe WF didn't have 100 big beef ribs, although they could have done short ribs. I was thinking that whole (or halved) rock cornish game hens could have been offered.
  21. I miss the Egberts but think of them every night when I use my neck pillow to read in bed. This show almost always has me laughing. I could watch three hours of this every night and not get bored. Julie and Brandi are my best tv friends. The three sisters don't bother me, but the Persian sister (the one who called her nephew a little fuck face) seems to be playing more to the camera this season.
  22. How else are they supposed to fundraise? Sorry about not putting the above in a quote box, but my device wouldn't let me. Anyway, I realized that it isn't the Beefsteak banquet that I object to. I'm more disturbed by their insensitivity toward the charity, a food bank. If they were having this event for cancer research or victims of domestic abuse or some other such thing, I would have no objection. To me it is about the optics and the tone-deafness.
  23. Although I love these British shows, I usually end up recognizing actors from other series and get distracted trying to remember where I last saw them. Sometimes it seems like the Brits have only a dozen actors in rotation. Was the male American Gothic also in that show "The Paradise?" Guess I'll have to google and find out.
  24. SteveAC10, there is no one in the world who would ever consider me a social justice warrior nor do I bend over backwards to be politically correct. My problem with the premise of Beefsteak is the irony which the beautiful people can't seem to acknowledge because this kind of nonsense gives them a chance to pat themselves on the back for their generosity. To me,it's like having a wine auction to raise money for an alcohol rehab facility.
  25. I do like this show, but last night I had to remind myself that this wasn't supposed to be set in the pre-computer era because I couldn't (and still don't) understand why Danny wouldn't have googled Lester's (anyone who was ever in The Wire is forever remembered by his role in that excellent series) company or Alex's family or anything at all! Okay, he doesn't have a computer or a smart phone, but he could stop in at a library or even ask someone to borrow a phone for a minute. Seemed weird to me. Seeing James Broadbent in this and in War and Peace concurrently is a little bit surreal.
