Spring Baking Championship - General Discussion

I pity the bakers who have to change their bakes to try and meet the judges' tastes. Who has decided that these three people have the ultimate taste buds? I know Duff was famous for his cake decorations, but were the cakes the most moist, light, and flavorful ever, appealing to everyone on the planet? -

Thank goodness Paul is gone. Poor Priya getting stuck with him during the first challenge. Paul didn't seem to be up to the standards prior French bakers have had. I wish they had at least one bread challenge this season. I pretty much like everyone who is left, so I'm not rooting for anyone in particular.- 3.4k replies

I loved it. Cheyenne rampaging around the ship and then being arrested because of her own shipmates was hilarious.

"I Married Myself" is an absolutely horrible, boring, song and I can't believe a ballet was set to it. I liked Tobias' final ballet and the fact that the whole thing went viral. I'm looking forward to a second season.

Phew! I'm glad Lisa made it over Kari. Kari's macaron's were major failures. I am upset the stupid twist is back. Something like zucchini is bad enough without having to mix in a chili pepper as well! Paul keeps screwing up in novel ways. First, he doesn't make a swiss roll and then completely forgets the imprime! Oops. He's fortunate he made it up in the main heat. Way to go Mary Frances! -

Finally! I was so afraid Paul's was bad enough to go home, but luckily his flavors were good even though his structure was shaky. I wish Jesse hadn't told the judges whether the 2 bakers used their immunity or not. I think the one guy would have been dinged for having a brown cake for the Spring Baking Championship, but they ignored that completely. I can see the criticism of the "space age" clock. He needed to do more than just pipe on flowers to keep to the theme. -

Argh. Does Kareem have blackmail material on someone in power? I was so bummed when I saw Paul's Faberge eggs. They didn't look authentic in the slightest. Prya's eggs were gorgeous and I was glad Lisa won the main heat. I just keep hoping Kareem would get his just desserts and leave.- 3.4k replies

I am so over the judges giving Kareem a pass! That madeleine tower was a disgrace! The piping was pretty before he stuck unevenly frosted madeleines hurly burly all over it. There's no way Nancy would let someone else get away with that.- 3.4k replies

I watched the Inside Out 2 and Moana 2 sequels this weekend. Both were much worse than the originals. Inside Out 2 wasn't terrible, just worse than the first one. Moana 2 is awful. The music is boring and the new characters are horrible. The only one I liked was the bat lady 😄

I hate it when the judges are rooting for a specific baker. Why is Kareem more deserving than any of the other bakers? I hope he goes home next week. Both his pre-heat and main bake were failures. Are marigold's edible? Kareem put real flowers on his pie but the judges never mentioned that everything must be edible. I wonder what happened to Lauren? Too many to have a favorite yet. -
I can't find any information about a premiere date. Anyone have an update?

I watched this to see if Kat Dennings could do more than toss off one-liners (i.e. "act"). The pilot didn't convince me. I don't know if she has any children in real life, but she did not come across as the mother of the kids on the show, especially the teenaged boy. No emotional connection with her supposed children. She and Tim bounced off each other well enough. Maybe it'll get better after the pilot.

I've never seen this show, but People mag has an article with Denise Richards complaining that her breast implants popped jumping off a bridge! What does that even mean? Did silicone burst out and spread all around under her skin? It sounds absolutely horrifying and she's complaining that she has to pay to have them redone herself! I was hoping maybe the show would have taught her that fake boobs aren't necessary, but apparently no self reflection was obtained during her arduous experience. 😄

I wasn't a fan of eggnog until I made it from scratch, with bourbon. Delicious! I'm not sure how to replicate it as a cake. Vanilla cake with a lot of the same spices? -

I'm underwhelmed. Steven's cake was adorable, but I couldn't believe using graham crackers for the roof was OK. That's a major component of his architecture and he used mass produced graham crackers. Rolf really got thrown by the modern architecture, which to me would have been the easiest. It was very messy, but the cake itself looked the best to me. I thought Rafi would have been a deserving winner with his Tudor cake. Poor Natasha. Her castle was way too simple and Nancy making a face at the crunchy layer was the kiss of death.- 2.4k replies

I was so worried for Natasha! What a time to have a bad bake. I'm so glad she made it through, and I'm very glad to see Courtney go. Jer looks to be a contender, but her cat noises are not cute and her screaming and jumping up and down are annoying me. And you guys get off my lawn!!! 🙃 Rafi baffles me. Is he really an excellent baker, or does he play one on TV? His persona doesn't seem to match his results. Or maybe I'm just crazy. Rolf seems to have loosened up. I'm starting to root for him, and I used to think he was kind of stiff and insufferable! -

I don't know why Meghan didn't just use modeling chocolate to make her book. She didn't need to stick with the leftover pieces of her bow. Modeling chocolate wouldn't have taken more time and would have been a lot more colorful. -

How can the semi-finals be next week? Don't they have 6 or 7 bakers left? Is there a double elimination coming up? -

Jer and Courtney are working on my last nerve. Jer needs to stop screaming and Courtney needs to stop flipping her hair. Meghan is gone! What a bummer! I liked her, she just had a bad bake. Poor Carla, having to eat all those boozy desserts when she doesn't drink. I don't get why everyone was so afraid of Peppermint Schnapps. A splash in a cup of cocoa is a standard beverage on a winter sleigh ride! -
My Thanksgiving mood is rapidly deflating. NBC's coverage of the "parade" doesn't include the actual parade at all! It's all Al, Savannah, and Hoda talking to themselves or showing Broadway performances. The parade itself - the floats, the marching bands - is being ignored. I've retorted to watching it on Telemundo - and I don't' speak Spanish!

We're still stuck with Courtney and Jer - my personal bottom two. I like Natasha and Meghan so I'm glad they did so well. Rolf could definitely win the whole thing. I like Rafi, but he doesn't seem to be as clean with his bakes as Rolf. -
Jensen on Michael Weatherly's podcast This interview was recorded about 7 months ago, but I just stumbled upon it. There is much lore about what a d*** Michael was to Jensen when he joined Dark Angel as a series regular. Michael spent a large chunk of this interview saying he was insecure, and overthinking everything, and trying to manage his relationship with his much younger co-star (The Alba, he calls her), etc etc. He never manages to actually apologize though! It's interesting to watch, just be prepared for Michael to do 75% of the talking.

Courtney looks like the producers favorite this season. Her bakes do not seem to merit it. Wasn't her Pavlova raw and cracked beyond recognition? And her Lambeth cake had some issues too (that I can't remember). I wish some of these bakers would wear hairnets. I keep waiting for a judge to pull a hair out of their food! I like Natasha and Meghan. Rolf is good but I can't quite read his personality. -

I like that so far, the bakers are pretty free to use whatever flavors they want. Just, make a cupcake. Or make a pie. The rules are about the decorating, not making someone combine coffee with green apple syrup. I like the baker's skills being judged on skill, not whether they can make something edible out of ingredients no one ever would use in real life.- 2.4k replies
