  1. Thank you for this. Someone posted the schedule from last year‘s competition above, and as I scanned it, I noticed there weren’t really a lot of the top D1 schools on it. Kentucky in particular came to mind because I remember they are a perennial power. In the first episode of season two, someone from Navarro mentioned that TVCC used to have more of a collegiate style. If that’s the case, I wonder why they never tried to compete in the UCA open division? And just a random observation: I was all in on the first season. But I had totally forgotten just how big the cast and “Mat TIme!!” were in the weeks leading up to the pandemic. I also agree that while I think Jerry was naturally exuberant, he was really amping it up as his star rose. It was pretty cringe to watch a lot of those video clips. Lastly, i’m all for a good motivational speech, but Jada in particular loved to talk. I honestly think that if I was already nervous, I would’ve tuned her out about halfway through. Brevity has its place. Lol
  2. Our company CEO is loathed to give gift cards. I think he finds them "impersonal." Dude. There are 900 employees. Nothing is going to be personal! In our case, though, we do get bonuses in the summer. And, I will say, about three years ago, we got a Yeti tumblers. Now, it's branded. But I still love that thing. The rest has been a mix of the usual (other types of mugs, blankets, etc.)
  3. All of this. I read here, and don't really post, but this storyline is just so far out there. Chance has been home, what, all of five or six weeks? He comes back to a brand new baby. Everyone decides he needs to have a welcome home party two seconds after he arrives back in town. He's dealing with guilt over the mission. To Chance's credit, his talks to a few people instead of keeping it all bottled up. Now Devon has decided that between that and Chance's inability to quiet a baby ONCE, he's worried about Bowie's wellbeing. And folks are co-signing this foolishness. Please.
  4. Why is Sally still designing a dress for a wedding that apparently will take place on Oct. 14, according to the invitation. Are we supposed to believe that Victoria sent out invitations without having a dress lined up? Or, will Sally’s design be so dazzling, it will be commissioned to be made overnight and arrive just in time. Gag.
  5. I sense that MiKayla and Jordan don’t really like each other all that much, and Simone is the one in the middle. Been there, done that. As for the sushi discussion, I’m 46 and probably had sushi for the first time when I was in my late 20s, maybe? But I only eat shrimp tempura rolls (yum!) and California rolls. No raw sushi for me! Lol
  6. What a wonderful interview. I’ve always thought that in her interviews after competitions, Simone, while sounding nice, can speak rather quickly and somewhat on script. That one seemed really heartfelt and emotional. I’m so happy for her.
  7. Did Simone take out a double wolf turn? I think she usually does that after the triple. Or I could be confusing her with the hundred other girls doing Wolf turns. Lol
  8. I love these looks at Rowdy. Obviously you can tell that he’s screaming, but it’s hilarious to actually see all the other stuff he’s doing. It looks like he’s grabbing Dan Hicks at one point. Lol
  9. Right?? That was really surprising to me too. I just Wikipedia’d all of their heights. Like The previous poster said, Michael Andrew is 6‘6“. Zach Apple is 6‘7.” And Caeleb and Ryan are the shorties at 6‘3.”
  10. Rowdy had Andrew’s back: “For all you haters…” I guess. Lol Way to go, guys!
  11. So I had to look this up. The US won silver at the 2019 Worlds with Ryan Murphy, Lilly King, Caeleb Dressel and Simone Manuel, swimming in that order.
  12. Well, not American replacements. But I imagine there are girls from other countries that would move up? I wonder how that works: do competitors just hang around in case they might get called for an event final? I imagine people who think that they’re done might’ve already gone home. ETA: I do think she has the right to take as much time as she needs to continue practicing to see what she thinks she can get through. Those other competitions aren’t until Monday and Tuesday, which gives her another two or three days of practice.
  13. So floor and beam are still possibilities? Kind of hard to imagine an entire floor routine with no twisting, but I guess I could see it on beam.
  14. Ha! I have never heard that phrase before, but I will use it for the rest of my life. Lol
  15. I agree with this. Honestly, he's miles ahead of many of the basketball and football players I've seen step off the court/field and into the booth. And NBC will absolutely keep giving him opportunities, which will help. I agree he seems better with Tirico during the fireside-style chats. ETA: Is it just me, or does the US seem "off?" I know we've picked up medals, but things just seem a little weird. I know that Dressel has the bulk of his program still to come, so maybe that will change the feel.
  16. Exactly. Doug Gottlieb, who is an idiot sports commentator, was all like “What if LeBron quit during the finals?” If LeBron was feeling off of his game during the finals, the worst he could do would be to clank a dunk or airball a few shots. Not break his neck.
  17. We still have cable mainly because we watch so many sports year around, and cable is just easiest. Just turn on the TV and there it is. This weekend, NBC showed a variety of sports. Now it was recorded, but there is still a lot of stuff to watch: swimming heats, triathlon, cycling, etc. It was a lot of random stuff. I just turned the TV on and had it on as background noise, occasionally popping my head in to see what was happening. Again, it was just easy. But I do know that a lot of people who have cut the cord are having a really hard time finding coverage to watch. I have both Peacock and the NBC sports app, and they are both horrible.
  18. The problem with the nighttime coverage is they have to be done by 9:30 pm to get to the live swimming. With the morning coverage — and the fact that it’s streaming — they have time to show the whole event and focus on more than one country. I’ll be honest, even though it would’ve been nice to see other competitors tonight, I really wanted to see the Americans and Russians. They’ll just have enough time to wrap up the competition, maybe show some of the medal ceremony and get in an interview or two before they have to switch over to the pool. in previous games, I always thought they started primetime coverage at 7:30 PM ET. It seems like that would help with trying to pack things in before they get to the live coverage they have.
  19. I’m inclined to agree. That commentary was too on the nose. There really was no need for that.
  20. Is there a script going around? I just saw those terms almost word-for-word in a Washington Post comment. The thing is, Simone has not been particularly outspoken about racial injustice. But a black athlete (or the women's soccer team) fails to live up to some crazy expectation? Time to blame their wokeness! I hate people.
  21. Everything I know about Michael Andrew I’ve pretty much learned from Dan Hicks and Rowdy Gaines over the last few years, and they always seem to be choosing their words very carefully. And it does seem that while the other swimmers are very cordial toward him in interviews, he doesn’t appear to be one of the dudes.
  22. I’d like to know, too! I don’t follow gymnastics as closely as I used to, but it seems like the Wolf turn has just come out of nowhere. I can’t tell — has it replaced an element that people used to do more or is it just an additional element?
  23. You’re so right. And yet I still laugh at that part every time. Lol
  24. i’m sure someone with greater knowledge will explain, but this is my understanding, which I just learned a few weeks ago. When Gabby made the team in 2016, a lot of Mikayla’s supporters thought that she took Mikayla’ s place. As I understand it, some of them posted some pretty racist things, which Myk liked. One of the big things was someone edited a photo of the gymnastics team and overlayed a photo of Myk over Gabby. And Myk liked it. I can understand her disappointment, but it just seems kind of tacky. I don’t know if she ever apologized for any of it. And maybe there’s some more stuff that I don’t know about, but there are pockets of people who definitely don’t like her.
  25. I’m certainly not an expert, but the bars specialist is Riley McCluster. I remember Tim and Nadia saying that she had a really good shot at making the team as a specialist before she fell. But they weren’t speaking in terms of her being a lock for a medal or anything. it’s kind of crazy that MyKayla Skinner’s Olympics are over. I don’t follow her closely but from what I’ve read she just seems to be a messy person in general. Simone seems to really like her, though. ETA: Also, I think I’ve figured out the coverage. If you watch on Peacock live, you get NBC coverage with Bridget Sloan and John what’s his name as commentators. If you watch on the NBC app, it’s pool coverage with the pool announcers. If you choose the four apparatus view or the Team USA tracker on the NBC app, you don’t get any commentary. I imagine the primetime coverage with the A-team announcers is probably similar to the Peacock live coverage.
