  1. Why was Dorothy a substitute teacher for apparently most (or all) of her career? She loved teaching and was happiest with long term assignments. She complained when all she had to do for a day is set up traffic cones or babysit a class for a day. So why did she never apply for a full time position? In my state substitute teachers are usually unemployed moms or retired people looking to make a few dollars. They aren’t real teachers. She was actually the only one not to advance in her career during the series. Rose ended up an associate producer (a stretch IMO, Mary Tyler Moore she was not) and even Blanche went from giving directions at the museum to be the assistant to the Director and planning exhibits.
  2. I hate how Rose gives away her supposedly beloved dog to the man whose wife died like she was giving away a stuffed animal. Who does something like that? The shelters are full of dogs needing homes the man could have adopted. As someone who considered pets family, I despise this scene.
  3. Don’t most shows have a variety of guests on to offer opinions and analysis? They don’t have the anchors talking for hours. They could have had Murphy mix it up a bit with different guests instead of the three tiredly repeating themselves. Loved Avery on the Wolf network. He is a great addition to the cast. Pat is becoming too much of a stereotype. Overall a very good episode.
  4. The only info we are getting is new casting. And the dreadful pregnancy rumor. I haven’t read one thing to make me want to pay money to watch this. Most shows leak a few plot spoilers to get people interested in watching.
  5. Why do the movies have to go past 11:00? Just have many cookie cutter love stories can people watch?
  6. If it were strictly a business transaction, I would be on Blanche’s side. But these were close friends and roommates who considered each other family. So the decent thing to do is to split the money. But it was idiotic of Blanche to tear them up. I would have tried to work out a payment plan with St Olaf where I collected a few thousand a year. Until I learned about the statue fund and then demanded it all. :)
  7. I’ve never understood why pronouncing a normally silent “p” was so funny either. And they used it twice. Sophia calling herself Sophia P-Hawkins when going to “rescue” her friend at a run down retirement home. And the funeral director Mr. Pfeiffer, “the P is not silent” followed by uproarious laughter.
  8. Lol. I’m very upset over the two month Hallmark Christmas movies. Thank goodness for DVRs.
  9. I thought a big problem last year was the cast had expanded to too many characters and everyone was getting shortchanged. So while we have lost Caine and Charlotte, they have added in three new characters (Eve, the priest and the new angel). I wanted them to delve further into the existing characters (without resorting to love triangles like last year). Maize did nothing but pout and rage last year. Dan only got snippets with Charlotte and even Lucifer was often sidelined while they juggled other stories. Have they really exhausted all ideas with the existing characters?
  10. Just read a article that it’s selling out fast and turning up on eBay. No doubt because of the toys being collectibles. Don’t underestimate the power and popularity of “the girls”. :)
  11. I never understood it either. They should have known it was a scam the minute the guy who actually claimed to have found the wallet offered to split it with them.
  12. I’m surprised to find out he’s only 82. I was thinking he was much older. Health varies greatly after 80 and he may have some medical issues. Which is too bad. I would like to see more of him. There are actors in their 80s and even 90s (Betty White-96!) still working regularly.
  13. Didn't the wardrobe department see a copy of the script when selecting outfits? I saw the episode where there’s a heat wave and it’s 95 and humid outside. The girls come in from playing softball. They are wearing long sleeve knits and Dorothy is dressed in layers! Then they are complaining how hot it is in the house with the AC broken and they are still wearing longish sleeves and layers and Sophia is wearing a heavy bathrobe. I realize older women often don’t want to show their upper arms but they just look silly considering the dialogue.
  14. Baby storylines usually show up late in a series when the writers are out of ideas.
  15. https://tvline.com/2018/08/21/lucifer-season-4-graham-mctavish-cast-priest-netflix/ So we have Eve showing up to try to rekindle her romance with Lucifer, a priest who is apparently onto Lucifer being in LA, and someone pregnant (it better not be Chloe carrying Pierce’s baby). I’m not paying for Netflix until I see whether others here say this plays out much better than it sounds.
  16. Didn’t he say he went to Dorothy’s sweet sixteen party as well? Even though Dorothy herself wasn’t invited to her own party. Did he leave his wife back in Italy when he visited New York? What a weird family. Angelo has a secret life and a wife no one knows about, Angela and Sophia don’t talk for 30 years. Sophia doesn’t talk to Phil’s wife and Gloria calls only once a year. While Angela moves back to Sicily and lives with a goat.
  17. In the episode where Rose’s monk bio father turns up in the hospital, there is a scene in the kitchen with the girls where Blanche tells Rose that she (Blanche) was luckier than Rose because she had a father who loved her. Now we know Rose had a loving adoptive father whom she adored, she once told the girls she had wonderful parents and loved her parents so much she never thought about being adopted (except for her Bob Hope fantasy I guess) . I just think that was a terrible thing for Blanche to say, to dismiss her adoptive father who raised her that way, and can’t believe Rose let that pass.
  18. Lucifer, Maze, Linda, Trixie and Dan with a litter of puppies would be fun.
  19. The only way a pregnancy would be tolerable is if it were that big dog that sat in the front seat that was pregnant.
  20. I always noticed that too. And in the hospital for surgery. Of course hospitals don’t allow makeup during surgery. Either they didn’t look so good without makeup or it was just laziness on the part of the makeup and lightning people.
  21. But this does: “After an eternity with Adam, she’s grown restless in her marriage and longs for a less predictable time when things were exciting. Naughty. Dangerous. She misses her hot and heavy first love…the charming rogue who tempted her so many years ago. That’s right, the devil himself…Lucifer.” Nothing about this character sounds interesting to me. She will probably turn into Lucifer’s enemy when he professes to her his true love for Chloe.
  22. So predictably they cast an actress a decade younger than Tom Welling to play Cain’s mother. And we will probably see yet another love triangle, this time with Lucifer, Chloe and Eve. The show doesn’t need another new character. It needs to get away from the soap opera story lines. This sounds like just another one. Maybe Adam will turn up too, all jealous. I wonder if the writers learned anything from last season’s rating catastrophe.
  23. Agreed. The Empty Nest episode is awful. I think the episode where Phil dies is also terrible. It starts out simply making no sense. Why is the family plot in Miami? Is Sal buried there? Why would he be. So why is Phil being buried in Miami? And where are his many children? And Gloria? And Dorothy’s kids? Then it takes a turn for the worse in making Sophia even more petty and cruel and the worst mother and grandmother imaginable. She has held a grudge for decades over a small dollar check bouncing. The whole thing is cringingly bad. And it’s a shame because Brenda Vaccarro is wonderful and under different circumstances would have been a great guest star for the show. And while there were some funny lines involving Phil wearing a teddy, they would have been funnier had he been alive. A waste of a great guest star and a terrible episode.
  24. People actually did record on VCRs back then. And reruns were half the programming on TV during the day. Remember Blanche and Rose even watched an I Love Lucy marathon in one episode. I grew up in the late sixties and watched I Love Lucy, Leave it to Beaver and The Andy Griffith Show every day and those shows had been cancelled years earlier. So the writers were certainly aware people would be watching the episodes over and over (although maybe not 30 years later!). The one thing they couldn’t predict is Internet forums. They never imagined fans chatting about the show for years afterward and pointing out the most irritating inconsistencies and stupid moments.
