  1. James Duthie is a TSN studio host. He hosted NHL on TSN before Rogers won the national contract. He hosted this season's first episode of After the Race, midway into the season.
  2. A little bit of correction, season 2 finale will be a one hour episode from 20:00 to 21:00 and then it will be followed by After the Race from 21:00 to 22:00. So the two-hour event refers to both the finale and post-game show. Related to that, I hope that it is James Duthie or Jon Montgomery himself that hosts the post-game show. I certainly do not want the annoying women of The Social ruin a great season like last year.
  3. Just to be realistic, as Air Canada flights originate and terminate in Canada, international-to-international routes are very much impractical, except if they are legs of the same route. Example, Honolulu to Sydney is good as Honolulu is a transit on Vancouver - Sydney line. Istanbul - Seoul, on the other hand, is an impossibility. From Istanbul racers would need to fly across the Atlantic to Toronto, from Toronto across Canada to Vancouver, from Vancouver across the Pacific to Seoul. As for Australia, the Commonwealth connection is indeed the one point they could exploit. Racers could visit the Australian War Memorial in Canberra where there are memorials about ANZAC in Gallipoli in WWI. Gallipoli is a major point in Australian history just like Vimy in Canadian history. Also, the bugler there plays the tune of "The Last Post", just like it is done in the Canadian Forces; it is in contrast with the United States Military that plays "Taps".
  4. I would think that it is Adidas that compels them to wear whatever they are wearing. The t-shirt and the jacket are the ones of Team Canada and Adidas did push them hard during Sochi. My question is then - just like Sarahendipity above - whether Adidas sponsor them personally, or through COC - Adidas is an official sponsor with that exact line, or through TPTB. Regarding building their brand, I do feel like Meaghan Mikkelson is preparing herself for life outside hockey. She is one the most media-exposed athletes in Canadian Women's Hockey Team. Well, if not the most one. She did the commercials with Sport Chek (Mother's Day and Father's Day) that TSN played over and over and over before the Olympics, she did the sexy spread with Sportsnet Magazine and now this. The fact that she has pretty face and hot smoking body does not hurt either.
  5. Turning into different direction now... The racing challenge was a riot, particularly the announcer. I wonder if racers heard what he was announcing through the PA. That challenge is pure physical endurance, I do not believe I have seen that in TAR for a long while. However, that challenge also showcases sexual dimorphism in human being. Two women world-class athletes, in a physically demanding sport, in the peak of their physical condition, can not outrace a man who does not do high-level competitive sport. I like how the greeter, just like the one in Winnipeg, was more interactive with the racers. She laughed and giggled, rather than just stood there, being pretty and said, "Welcome to [name of place], [specific distinction about the place]." Turn again to "that" direction: what actually happened with Mikk and Spooner when they parked the car? Sukhi and Jinder was behind them but the siblings got a head start? Did Mikk park the car incorrectly?
  6. Should this discussion not be in the players - instead of the episode - thread?
  7. Nucky mentioned once that he had a sister that died of consumption - old-time term for tuberculosis.
  8. For fellow Montrealers, if you want to catch Le Cheese food truck, their menu and schedule are here.
  9. If the clue says "fly to Charlottetown" and team flies to Moncton and drives instead to Charlottetown, the team is liable for a penalty. Other than that, you are right. If team leaves in the morning and they must take Air Canada (assuming that they can choose flights as long as it is AC), then flying through Halifax gives earlier arrival time in Charlottetown than flying direct.
  10. As a Montrealer, I am sad and disappointed that this Montreal episode is the worst episode so far in this season. Maybe because of the weather? The worst part is the non-competitive FF. And stupid of Rob and Ryan to try it when Sukhi and Jinder are already started. They should have known that there is no way their artists can do the sketch faster than the siblings' artists. Is there any clause in the contract with challenge providers that they have to give their service in English, no matter what? I would say that Alain might be more comfortable communicating with the stunt instructor in French. As well, as it is in Mirabel, those instructors should speak French well. Same case as the glass Detour. There is no way that the judge does not speak French and Audrey appears to be a bilingual francophone.
  11. Agreed. The story arc about Gundersen is tedious and tiring. It should have ended with his hanging on the bridge. As of now, he is getting to be more and more like a dark comedic relief. Besides, if the Mormons want to know whether he is real or not, why does they not ask him in details about the teaching of the Latter Day Saint movement? So far what Gundersen provides is just vague ideas about God and Jesus and speak-in-tongue gibberish.
  12. As far as we know, TPTB could have had U-Turn on every leg. After each leg they could have seen if the U-Turn made good impact or not. Just like Gus McLeod - of Gus and Hera of TAR6 - said, "It is not reality, it is unscripted television." Therefore, for me I just take the narrative TPTB gives us. Anything other than that is just nice to know. Now, speaking of TPTB, I do suspect TPTB interference. How does Alain know that he should propose there? In the city of love, underneath a bridge used by couples to "lock up" their love? He could have proposed anywhere before or after Paris. He could have even be eliminated before. But yet, it was jus the right spot in the right city after such a big moral victory. I am a bit skeptical, but I am just going with the narrative.
  13. I think if it is not on-screen it is not canon. Therefore, the rules of the race does not apply to non-canon materials, as there may be plenty of things happen off-screen that viewers are not privy to.
  14. Rusun, mea culpa. I would hope that they ease up on British Columbia already. In each of both seasons BC gets two pitstops and a whole episode completely in that province. No other province or territory gets that treatment. It is even still to be seen if season 2 will wisit New Brunswick.
  15. There is a status given by IIHF for male hockey players who won the Stanley Cup, Olympic Gold Medal and World Championship Gold Medal. It is called the Triple Gold Club. It is a very prestigious and exclusive group of players, today there are only 7 active players in the world are members. I just realized that should such recognition existed in women's hockey, Spooner would be a member. She won 2012 World Women's Championship gold medal, 2014 Olympic gold medal and 2014 Clarkson Cup with Toronto Furies. I know that Clarkson Cup is nothing compared to the Stanley Cup, but still it is the top award for club women's hockey in North America.
  16. Keep in mind that with the current structure, the show can only go where Air Canada (including Jazz, Express and Rouge) directly goes, i.e. no code sharing. Therefore, NZ, BVI, Bolivia, Denmark other than Copenhagen, Sri Lanka, India, Singapore and SA are all out. Looking for other sponsor than Air Canada? I do not think TAR-C is strong enough to make it happen. Besides, Air Canada sure wants exclusivity as a major sponsor. It will not let contestants fly any other airways.
  17. Sorry to be off-topic, but where can Canadians get TAR Australia, or any other versions of TAR?
  18. BTW, it was James Duthie who first called them 'The Golden Girls'. I want to start this thread with an appreciation to Meaghan Mikkelson. We all know that she broke her hand sometime in Sochi that she played the Final game with a broken hand. It must have been rather serious that she was unable to shake Dick Pound's hand when he gave her the gold medal. What we did not know was the extent of the injury. Before the Winnipeg episode, Mikk posted on her Twitter the x-ray photo of her injury. I cringed when I saw that photo. We also know now that she broke that hand 4 days before the Final game. And yet, on the Final game Mikk booked 21:44 minutes TOI and one assist. With that broken hand. I think it is just nothing short of amazing...
  19. Well, I have to defend my calling Natalie and Meaghan as Spoons and Mikk. Those are the names they call each other on-screen, during the show. Therefore, they are not insider nicknames as those are the names they call themselves. Other example is Jud, the winner of Survivor: Nicaragua. While his show name was Jud, everybody called him Fabio. Since it was a name named on-screen, viewers could legitimately refer him as 'Fabio'. ETA: IIRC, Meaghan Mikkelson has not even called Natalie Spooner as 'Natalie' or 'Nat', except when referring to third person. She always calls her 'Spooner' or 'Spoons'. On a slightly different note, I think it is rather common for someone in team sports to refer his / her teammates by the last name or a name derived from it. First, they have their last names visible on the jersey, second, the probability of teammates having the same first name is rather high in the Western world.
  20. Is this season going to be short? Last season, the first season, was short because there were only 9 teams. This season has 11 teams, just as many teams as it is typically on TAR. Also there are 2 NELs. Therefore, unless it has more than 3 teams on the Final, I do not think that this season can be less than 12 legs, the standard on TAR.
  21. Because Mentos is one of the sponsors of the show. I have to say that Spoons and Mikk are simply amazing. Outside of their obvious physical prowess, they are just able to keep on the front, except when hockey is involved. Is there any all-women team on TAR with as many 1st places as they are? Compared to others, the amount of time Spoons took to finish the artwork was simply, well, amazing. On the other hand, also looking at TAR, is there any team who did the U-turn that ended up getting eliminated?
  22. BTW, I have enough of Revolution and - while I am eagerly waiting its new season - The Walking Dead. Meaning that enough of urban post-apocalyptic world where the government is gone. I want The Last Ship to be, well, the last ship. Go out to the sea, show military systems, procedures and hardware and fight from there.
  23. I watched it somewhere that with the fat content of human body, it can act like tallow. Therefore, albeit the calorific values of burning human bodies are low, human bodies can burn on itself after intial combustion. The water content will just evaporate in the process. One of the most ridiculous things (if not the most) in the series is how a single policeman with a pistol is able to hijack the bridge. That pistol has what, 15 rounds? The policeman is surrounded in the bridge with that many people. All the brave U.S. Navy Sailors are afraid by his threat? They could have just raided him together. Sure, there will be casualties, but they have been through terrorists, Russians, drug lord and vaccine testing. Really, they just stand there and be frozen by a Glock?
  24. They did. His name was Alcide Herveaux*. See what good that love interest did. *I know that Alcide was not exactly human, but he was much more human than Bill was. He could stay in the sun, he ate human food and he could have children with her.
  25. Easy, Meaghan Mikkelson is the hotter one. :-)
