If the State makes it illegal to cross state lines for an abortion, the law will also generally include methods of enforcement. There are some states, like Kansas, that currently allow abortion but is working to restrict, that might very well notify a woman's home state that she received (or even inquired about) an abortion in their state. But the same question can be asked about enforcement of prescription drug abortions sent in the mail to a state where abortion is illegal. It's also harder to enforce but not impossible. The point being even though the likelihood of being caught is low, it's still very possible and something someone should be scared of.

I agree. Would nice to have someone with a science background on the show. I enjoyed her contribution to the Hershal Walker discussion. I'm ok-ish on Alyssa. But she just feels so rehearsed and unauthentic on the show. Seeing how Ginger fit it like an old friend with the rest of the panel, really pointed that out to me.

I don’t think anyone has said that. Last season did a great job of explaining the history of racial dynamics of this show, so no need to completely rehash reasons behind the cookout. But in summary, first boots are often those seen as not fitting in with the majority. And Black people on this show are disproportionately given the label even though their actual actions are no different than other houseguests. So until we have several seasons where the pattern of Black people being targeted early for vague reasons then the criticism will remain and is fair.

Count me in the faction that loves Nicole’s hair and hates Daniel’s 🙂. Also don’t mind Taylor using her looks/body. The muscle bound guys do the same. No problem with that either. But not a fan on the group gang up Paloma is doing against Taylor. Not a very “Girl’s girl” thing to do.

Defitinitely allowed to have an opinion. However .... Sunny has been consistent on this subject since the leaked draft leaked weeks ago. She said the same thing then as she did today. That she is personally against abortion and being on the show helped her realize that it is wrong to push her personal beliefs on the subject on other people who do not have the same beliefs. She previously was 100% in the camp of being no abortions for anyone for any reason. So I have seen where Sunny can change on at least one topic 🙂. Anna btw, also Catholic, has expressed similar beliefs on the topic. She is personally against abortion but doesn't believe her beliefs should be imposed on others. The Catholic church's official position is that abortion is a sin, no exceptions. So not terribly surprising that Anna and Sunny have that personal belief.

While I agree "correct messaging" feels icky. I took Sunny's criticism was that the book may have an an unintended message of colorblindness that the author did not intend. And she was happy to see it better explained/clarified in the second book. Historically America has sold this melting pot narrative about American culture, when in reality it was more about demanding marginalized communities to assimilate into the dominant culture. (And deemed dominant culture superior) I haven't read the book, so I'm speculating that it is what Sunny is reacting to. I think Kristen did a fine job with the handling the question and moving the conversation forward. Although I had to chuckle at her trying to dismiss Twitter criticism when she is fairly active there.

I does seem like on the fluffier topics her speech slows down. But on political topics she's talking so fast that I think she loses track of what her argument is.

The Wendy Williams Show - General Discussion
After7Only replied to David T. Cole's topic in The Wendy Williams Show
There was a longer tribute toward the end of the show. Lots of clips of Wendy over the years and it ended with a big "How you doin" with the audience and staff. -
I think one problem is the type of mental illness the perpetrators suffer from like depression or borderline personality disorders are relatively common in the general population. There's not a mental health diagnosis specific to mass shooters. They often aren't schizophrenic or stereotypically "crazy". So I think Sunny mentions the mental health stat to point out that it's too broad of a factor to adequately address the problem. It would be like saying let's put more resources on young men 14 - 21. Yes, that age group here is more likely to perpetrate the crime than the general population, but it's also too broad a category to really address the issue. In an ideal world anyone expressing a desire to hurt themselves or others would be prohibited from purchasing a gun or if they had a gun already, the person would have to surrender it to law enforcement until it can be shown they are no longer a threat. In reality that would be extremely difficult to implement. There is a patchwork of databases across the country to enter that type of information with different requirements for inclusion in each state. There is no single source out there with the most up to date information. Sunny wants to focus on the thing that is easiest to control, the access to the gun. And sees the mental health conversation as a distraction to that to some degree.

Lindsey today seemed to be adjusting some. She's slowing down her speech a bit and at least today, not being as confrontational. That might means she's trying to be a front runner. Or it could mean she already knows she's not getting the job, and being more "herself"
-
Sarah kind of hit on it today. She said the right goes to blaming mental health and the left goes to guns. Sunny keeps mentioning her stat that the mentally ill or more likely to be victim on violence than perpetrators because the right tends to want to end the discussion with mental health and doesn't want to address guns. Sunny has also advocated for mental health enough in general that I already know she's not trying to disregard mental health as a factor in these situations. But she's trying to keep the focus on the gun as well.

I didn't see seminary student at all. A mini-sermon would have been more of Mike's pitch, focusing on being honorable and his comments after he lost about Maryanne doing "good things" with the prize. Maryanne stuck to actual facts of her personal gameplay with specific examples. I don't think she mentioned the prize money or what she might do with it at all. If seminary school doesn't work out, she'd make a pretty good lawyer.

It was like Whoopie's shutting down the audience, gave Kellyanne an opening to go full Kellyanne on the interview. She started out sticking to talking about her book and her life. After Whoopi shut down the crowd, she went into her usual schtick. Kellyanne was just there for headlines not to sell books. And she's definitely jealous of Alyssa. One of the funniest parts of the Kellyanne/Alyssa fight was watching Sunny's bemused look as it was going on.

I took Sunny's comments as pointing out the hypocrisy of the church, not as deflecting on the issue. They were criticizing the bishop for not giving Pelosi communion because she's pro-choice. But that same Bishop gave communion to a republican governor who supports the death penalty. It didn't come across as clear as it could because Whoopi was also confused on Sunny's point. But she was saying if the bishop denies communion to Pelosi he should also deny it to the governor who supports the death penalty.

She’s also shown she’s willing to sell her soul to make a buck take care of her family, so I don’t think she will even have to be “forced” to make sparks. She does have decent chemistry with the others except for Ana.

Not really. The shows this season are seriously probing what is Black? It is not just skin color and not just culture. There are also very real divisions between African immigrants and Black American descendants of slavery. They aren’t talked about often, but they are there.

This might explain why he cast the late Kevin Samuels to play Robert S. Lee. He is extremely polarizing especially to Black women.

What I remembered was Whoopi saying that people vote our elected officials into office therefore they should be accountable. Although as much as Whoopi hates paying taxes she might have included taxes as well 🙂 The job of an elected official is to directly represent the people of it's district. That's a slightly different scenario than buying a tickets. As stated the connection to the performer is indirect. Patty s accountable to the producer who pays her salary, not to the audience. The producer is accountable is to those who buy the tickets. So if the producer doesn't have a problem with Patty telling people to put on masks or get out, then Patty is not in the wrong. Again a total different scenario from an elected official who was voted into positions to represent our best interests. When they don't do that, it is appropriate to let them know whether that be verbally (respectfully) or in the voting booth.

Early seasons had Randall having panic attacks, and various anxiety issues. We saw plenty of his crack ups. Seasons 4-5 finally had Randall seeking counseling to deal with his various issues and anxiety. Randall still has a bit of a savior complex, but through therapy he does understand the why and has made growth. Not being in control of everything and everyone no longer results in panic attacks, complete body shutdown, and hurtful words towards his siblings. He just like Kate and Kevin still have the same insecurities/issues from their youth, but all 3 have matured and are making better choices.

I don't think they highlighted women every day during Women's history month in March. They may have done women owned businesses for the yard sale though at some point. But I don't recall any complaints about that. There's plenty of places to learn more about AAPI causes, businesses, etc. The View does not have to be the only resource 🙂

I think Sunny's tone was in response to the child like argument spouted by Lindsey on the issue.

I'm just glad SWSNBN was not there. She would not have had the good sense to be as diplomatic as Sunny. And no telling how Whoopi would have reacted to her. The abortion rate has dropped significantly since the ACA made insurance companies cover birth control with $0 copay. But that doesn't get publicized much. But there will always be those who can't or won't take birth control or those that need abortion services for medical reasons for planned/wanted pregnancies.

Yes we probably will. Some people have concluded that Mary Ann and Drea have called the votes racist, when that's not what happened. Lots of posts here that explains why way better than I can. Neither have said voting out any singular player is a racist act in and of itself. And there is no reason why any future player should think it would be in the future. However, in playing a game there are tons of factors that go into how people connect with each other and develop strategy. People tend to link with others they have things in common with, and shy away from those who are different. Which is why the show makes a point of highlighting unlikely friendships like Omar and Mike and Jonathan and one of the physically weaker players (can't remember who) . Race is one of several factors that come into play in how people connect (others being, gender, sexual orientation, age, class, physical strength etc.) My hope going forward is that players take note of any unconscious bias they may have regarding race when it comes to the assumptions they make on players as part of thinking through strategy. That really isn't that big a burden.

Sara seemed a little low energy today across the board. She's gotten a lot better about jumping in when she has something to say. But it felt like she didn't even watch the highlights of the WHCD, so she didn't have much to add to the discussion. Her hair and dress today were gorgeous.

I think a point that many people miss, is that the things that Mary Ann and Drea said are thoughts/concerns/issues that many of the Black players have every season. They may not articulate it, but it is part of their gameplay. Many Black players adjust their gameplay to account for the conscious or unconscious bias other players may have. Just like Jonathan adjusted his gameplay to be less assertive (prior to this ep) so people are less concerned about him being a physical threat. How other players have hid the fact that they were lawyers, poker players, scientists, etc because they thought it would affect the way their tribemates viewed them. The difference is all of the people can articulate those thoughts and it be considered OK/and normal. Whereas for whatever reason, bringing up race triggers people differently.
