AK gave somewhat confusing information in his early interviews about CL's character. The best I can figure out, she was the Black Canary - just an earlier version of her. He even calls her the Black Canary in some of these interviews. It wasn't until later that they began making the distinction between the Canary and the Black Canary. He also told CL that she was playing the Black Canary. Let's see... In S2 Oliver set Felicity up as bait to be kidnapped and possibly killed by Slade without her prior knowledge and consent. In S3 Oliver let Felicity believe that she was going to die from a bio virus in the Nanda Parbat prison (even though Malcolm knew the truth). In S4 Oliver deceived Felicity about a huge thing in his life that would also affect her life if she married him (even though Malcolm knew the truth). And the criticism is - what? That Felicity doesn't 100% support and enable Oliver to continue lying to her?

If Laurel actually is the one who dies, then I hope the EPs accurately interpret the inevitable fan backlash. IIRC, MG once said that 90% of their hate mail in S2 was against Sara, which may have contributed to their decision to kill off Sara in early S3. However, we've speculated that the 'unexpectedly' big backlash against killing Sara may have then contributed to their decision to bring Sara back to life for LoT. 90% of the hate mail does not equal 90% of the fandom. Only extremely unhappy people send hate mail to the show. For example, if 80% of the fandom was happy with Sara's appearance in S2, then the hate mail would've come from, at most, 90% of that remaining 20% (or 18%). So if Laurel dies, they can expect that nearly 100% of their hate mail will be about that death. But again, only very unhappy people will send hate mail.
