I'm like, 98% sure it was the Westin on 43rd street. The escalators were an exact match. Maybe they couldn't get cleared to film at the Marriott? Or perhaps were looking for a hotel that felt a little more intimate? If memory serves, the Marriott lobby is kind of massive.

I'm a sucker, too. I'll admit I was cringing when it was just Franco in his bad old age makeup, but when he started walking down the street and seeing all the old familiar faces... I felt that. I think I was most excited to see Ruby again. I also loved the song choice. Several reviews have cited it as a Blondie cover, and I wonder if it was commissioned specially for the show because I can't seem to find it anywhere else online.

They may not be the most technically polished team, but I just love the Disco!Brits. Their Vogue program is so fun, and I can't wait to see how it grows over the season. And I agree that Lewis seems much more comfortable with it right now than Lilah does.

S05.E18-19: Chapter Ninety-Nine/Chapter One Hundred
TwoBitUsherette replied to CooperTV's topic in Jane The Virgin [V]
As someone who's never been a big fan of Jane and Rafael, this finale was not for me... and that's okay. I can still appreciate that the show stayed true to itself and sent its characters off on a such happy note. I'd rather see them play it safe than use the finale to blow everything up just for the sake of being edgy. I did love the few moments we got of the Villanueva women, particularly the scene where Alba went to turn off the lights and we got all of the flashes from the past. That is the show that I'm going to miss. -
Entertainment Weekly has a new interview with Reese and Nicole where the address the possibility of season three. Between interviews like this and the fact that season two finished with series high ratings, I'm betting HBO will do whatever it takes to make sure season three happens.

S07.E04: How to Do Life
TwoBitUsherette replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Orange Is The New Black
Flaca and Maritza, together again! Too bad their happiness at seeing each other couldn't last very long. I feel awful for Blanca and Maritza to be stuck in there. It's kind of sad how excited I was to see Bell and O'Neill return. The guards from before Litchfield went private were always my favorite. Poor Lorna. Poor Taystee. Even poor Piper. -
That scene was ridiculous. It would have made sense coming from Madeline or Celeste or any of the other women, but not Ziggy. Of course that would have required the women to share scenes of friendship, which didn't seem to be a high priority this season.
-
Pretty sure that's exactly what it is. On the Veronica Mars Instagram, there's an IG story that has the caption "So excited for you all to watch this season. It may not be the story you expect, but it's the story you need. We love you." And it's that attitude that pisses me off more than what actually happens in the episode. It just feels so condescending.

Thanks, I hate it.

For anyone who's missing Strange Indeed, Netflix has put out a behind the scenes podcast. The first full episode dropped today and focuses on Starcourt Mall. Interviews include at least one of the Duffers, the production designer, and costume designer.

The Stranger Things Wishlist: What We Want To Happen
TwoBitUsherette replied to Last Time Lord's topic in Stranger Things
I don't know that I'd necessarily want to see either of these people take Steve under their wing, but I'd love to see him share some scenes with either Murray or Mrs. Henderson. I feel like Brett Gelman in particular could have some really fun chemistry with Joe Keery. And speaking of Steve, I'd love it if we could finally meet his parents next year. I'm pretty sure he's the only major character whose family we've never seen. Very curious who they would cast as his asshole father or "super well-respected" mother. -
S03.E08: Chapter Eight: The Battle of Starcourt
TwoBitUsherette replied to Athena's topic in Stranger Things
I feel like the show hasn't done a great job in establishing the ages of the teenagers, with the exception of Steve who we know just graduated (class of '85). In season two (fall of '84) Steve mentioned the possibility of staying behind for a year so that he could keep an eye on Nancy, which leads me to believe she's a year younger than him and class of '86. Also, there's been no mention from her about upcoming college plans which definitely makes me think she hasn't applied yet because she's still got one more year in high school. We know that in season one Jonathan was old enough to have a driver's license, and in season two he clearly had at least one class with Nancy. I think if he had graduated with Steve we would have heard more about his future plans. Plus, he wouldn't have been forced to leave Hawkins when Joyce moved, he could have stayed behind and found a job. This leads me to conclude that he is also class of '86. And then there's Robin. In 3x03 Steve very clearly tells Dustin that Robin is still in school, but then later during the Russian interrogation Robin mentions having been in "Mrs. Click's sophomore history" class with Steve. Also, when they're applying to the video store Robin tells Keith that she knows Steve "was a bit of a prick to us in high school." Which to me sounds like all three of them have graduated, but that contradicts Robin still being in school. TL;DR - I'd really like it if the show were more explicit about the ages of the characters because I find details like that important. -
I've yet to find a podcast that goes episode-by-episode that I really love. I've listened to Strange Indeed and The Hawkins Report are they're both... fine. One podcast that I do really love is The Watch and they've got a big season three wrap-up episode that was a lot of fun. Also, The Recappables did a miniseries series of the season where they broke down episodes 1-3, 4-6, and 7-8.

S03.E08: Chapter Eight: The Battle of Starcourt
TwoBitUsherette replied to Athena's topic in Stranger Things
I find the decline of Jonathan to be really interesting. I'm not sure if it's a failure of the writing or of the actor or a combination of the two. And I'm sure Steve's rapid ascent to fan favorite hasn't helped. Jonathan was such a vital part of season one, but ever since then he's felt less and less important to the show. This season in particular, the only thing that seemed to keep him hanging on was Nancy. What's weird is I continue to root for Nancy and want to see her integrated into the cast better, but I've lost almost all interest in Jonathan. Maybe the Byers moving will be a chance to get the character back to the only place I think he really shined - with his family. I saw a brief interview with Charlie Heaton from the premiere and he mentioned that next season he hopes to work more with Winona and I agree with him. -
S03.E08: Chapter Eight: The Battle of Starcourt
TwoBitUsherette replied to Athena's topic in Stranger Things
I was just listening to a podcast that made me realize something - do we know for sure whether or not Nancy and Jonathan have graduated? I've always been under the impression that they (or at least Nancy) were a grade behind Steve in school. In 2x01 he even mentions staying behind a year to be with her. Yet a lot of the discussion on season three makes it sound like Nancy and Jonathan have graduated since they were interning at the paper. I just assumed that was a summer gig, and they'd be back in school come September. Plus, if they were both out of high school then I don't think the Byers moving away would have been nearly as big of a deal to them. -

Bye, Billy. I will not miss you one little bit. Loved Steve saving the day, yet again. I know I burned through the episodes pretty quickly, but did Jonathan and Will have any kind of meaningful interaction all season, outside of occasionally standing next to each other? I was shocked how happy it made me to see Paul Reiser pop back up. With the Byers moving I hope that gives Nancy the opportunity to be on her own as a character a little bit. I feel like she hardly ever gets to do anything lighthearted. -
The Stranger Things Wishlist: What We Want To Happen
TwoBitUsherette replied to Last Time Lord's topic in Stranger Things
Definitely agree with your list, especially 3 and 4. I'll admit to being total trash for Steve, so really I'd just like him to find some success in life, either romantically or professionally. At the very least I hope he stays close with Dustin and Robin. I'll also add: 1. Send Jonathan to college because he hasn't been interesting for two seasons now. 2. Bring back Dr. Brenner. Personally I found him to be the strongest of the human villains, and it was implied in 2x07 that he's still alive. 3. Give Lucas something more interesting to do. Of all the original party members, I feel like he's the one we still know the least about. If they insist on keeping Erica a regular cast member, maybe do something with them as siblings. -
Not gonna lie, I was totally shipping Robin and Steve until that bathroom stall scene. Now I just want them to be best friends forever. But I do hope by the time this show is over Steve will find someone to love who actually loves him back (romantically speaking).

So long, Veep! You had four/five great seasons, which is more than a lot of shows can say. Gary was hardly my fave, but it still broke my heart when Selina turned on him. I actually felt the whole funeral epilogue was a little unnecessary, but it did provide us with the amazing payoff to the joke in the pilot about Tom Hanks dying.

Every time someone makes a fat joke about Amy I get flames on the side of my face. I mean, Selina referring to her as "Fatty McFatterson"... how is that even supposed to be funny?!

Fosse/Verdon - General Discussion
TwoBitUsherette replied to Door County Cherry's topic in Fosse/Verdon
There are so many prestige projects from the last few years that were well-reviewed, but I found to be painfully slow. Glad that wasn't the case tonight as I found the episode moved really quickly. I'm definitely in for the next seven weeks. -
I understand that until P/C retire the judges will continue to give them gold every time their blades touch the ice, but a full eleven points ahead of the next closest team is something that I just don't get. At all. I'm glad at least one US team made the podium, even if I would have preferred C/B. To H/D's credit, tonight was probably the first time this season that I actually liked their free dance. Bummed that it looks like Russia is going to push S/K over S/B, as I much prefer the latter. S/K nearly put me to sleep tonight.
