Great episode for Kent. He was fired from the Seahawks, in part because he couldn't get the concept of Yards After Catch across to Steve Largent, I would have loved to have watched those conversations. Plus his listing of all of Jonah's potential enemies and the double fist pump when he's fired by Jonah because he makes a basket. Selina thinking Johnny Carson still hosted the Tonight Show seemed a bit off. While it's a good little throw away joke, has she been that insulated despite a full term in the executive branch? She was current on SNL a few years back. Interesting commentary with Adam Scott's Tonight Show set looking more like David Letterman's Late Show set, and being a touch more sinister in Dave's mold.

Indeed. Licencing the algorithm would have seemed a more rad solution. Though, it ultimately likely would have still lead to the same place, with Keenan leveraging it into his Hooli acquisition, so we at least get the scenes of Richard at least showing some sense in his negotiations, without Erlich. "Dinesh, how much are tickets to Hooli-con?" "Why would I know that?" - Fantastic button, as Richard's rolling, we get grounded again with something sensible, and easily resolved.

Which is a great call back to the Jonah campaign ads where he couldn't hit the wood with the axe

There are so many amazing subtle items that go on, but I think my favourite of this episode was there caterer chipping the ice sculpture to fill the beer rub in the middle of the party. That or Leon West's, "Mike Dickface McClintock" caller ID.

That's at least the second major crime wave Gotham has endured this year after Jerome's black-out, and more if you consider the "Monster Escape," Tetch hypnotizing ever fifth citizen, and more. Why does anyone still live here again? All the power to you friends. I liked that the show embraced the crazy, but this season just felt too off the rails. The scheduling didn't help either, I was probably 3 weeks past my "winter TV season" watching enthusiasm, and the two hour finale was big. Like most shows, Gotham would benefit greatly if it were a shorter season, or given its cast of characters if it could do an episode without any Jim. I'm feeling a little torn on where to go from here. Obviously the show had to evolve, but like others have said, it seems too early for Bruce to be full fledged Batman, and yet each of Batman's villains is getting rushed to development. A big part of the Batman mythos is that the villains' craziness and flare for the dramatic is drawn out of the fact that Batman himself is present in Gotham, and that kind of hero draws out these villains. I liked crime lord Barbara (and whomever her daily hairstylist was doing that great work) but I'm not sure I'm ready for even crazier Barbara down the road to Harley Quinn. I liked angsty and snarky Selena (at least when dealing with the adults), I'm not sure I want leather jump-suitted complete with Cat-cleavage Catwoman out of this show. So long as Harvey's there to keep things grounded, the production value stays high, and the show continues to kill it with the casting (B.D. Wong; Alexander Siddig, Michael Chiklis) I'll have reason to keep tuning in. I just hope they gather some focus.

S04.E14: United States withdrawal from the Paris Agreement

It's similar to petroleum jelly (vaseline), and is the emulsifier, which keeps it light. -

There's also some premise to the thought that areas that have geological formations that fall under enough pressure to produce coal, likely also have access to Geothermal wells, and likely equipment that can be modified for that kind of drilling. But no one really wants to take the upfront risk, as it's highly speculative, and payouts are unknown. Well, if you've got a workforce that's unemployed, and trends are moving to renewable energy, maybe take a look at subsidizing Geothermal drilling in your area instead of crying about bygone industries. Somebody also needs to lay it out for these guys that even if we were never burning oil for energy again, there's still going to be a huge demand for petroleum based products. Nylon, that material that all those "crazy lefty hippies" wear in the form of Gore-Tex and pluck as guitar strings, petroleum product. Highly durable industrial plastics, petroleum. Asphalt, that thing that all our roads are made out of, petroleum. Dairy Queen soft-serve ice cream, petroleum (and other-things, don't worry). -
This felt like what the roots of Silicon Valley were meant to be. Panning the little idiosyncrasies of the valley. So an episode focused on a Patent Troll played quite well. Of course it plays better here where they're not flush with the backing of a VCs as they were in prior seasons, the desire for Richard to actually fight the thing makes more sense. Presumably Raviga or Russ would have advised to just pay off the troll as a cost of business. Richard getting the win with his own intellect and some cunning was good to see too. Despite his passion costing him with the partnership idea. He played the resolution well. I was worried there was going to be an issue the licence when Jared looked at it then asked to speak with Richard, as that would have been more the case in the past couple seasons where things spin out of control. The invoice was a nice comeuppance that hopefully keeps this issue mostly resolved. Lori, Monica, you have to know nothing good is coming from having Erlich as an employee. I would have jacked that pay-off to go away!

S03.E04: Kimmy Goes to College!

I enjoyed them barrelling through the, Ivy League Schools Don't Offer Full Athletic Scholarships issue, by just having the coach exploit the jock-nerd relationship on Dean Koontz (heh). It's over, it's resolved, don't need to talk about that again. -

Who is working the front door of Gotham Central PD? Can I suggest installing a turnstile? A security checkpoint? A metal detector? Or is it a booking agent? "Yes, the officer you'd like to see is present. Would you like me to ring ahead to him, or will you be making the grand entrance to the bullpen?"

The writers had another little meta moment with Mike mentioning, "It's difficult to write all that cursing"
-
Even Jonah, written specifically to be the most self-serving and impulsive fuck-up in Washington is being out-done by reality.

With limited episodes this felt a little episodic, not appearing to move much forward in order to get the phone gag with Dinesh and Guilfoyle and Richard to sleep with someone he shouldn't have. It will be interesting to see if it pays off as a "chess-piece moving episode" in typical HBO fashion. I did enjoy how the preview, episode description, and opening served to combine for a fake-out to lead you to believe this was a Russ-centered episode, then actually call back to someone else from the show's canon. I also appreciate them going with a different business model now with the pre-sales. It's risky, but the product seems to be working thus far.

S04.E21: The Bank Job / S04.E22: Crime & Punishment
Traveller519 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Brooklyn Nine-Nine
"This is a weird concept for a restaurant" Never truer words spoken, Terry, but it was a great running gag, along with the hacking Terry elements. Stephanie Beatriz has really hit it out of the park this season. I think she's going to be the break out star of the series. -
This week on Gotham, Alfred tells Selena to stay away from Bruce forever. And this time he REALLY means it!
-
Did everyone get a (small) win here? It seems like competence prevailed across the board, and it wasn't falling ass-backwards into luck that got them there. Unfortunately, the result is the 567th series re-set

How has Selina not yet learned to stick to her guns on these last minute "enlightenments"? The uneeded submarine, the Georgian election, now her human rights speach? Stick to your fucking guns, Mrs. President. I would watch an entire series of "The Furlongs Dinner Parties"

I hope we get to see the TSA piece in full. However I have no faith the next two weeks won't provide the need for another summary episode.

S42.E21: Dwayne Johnson / Katy Perry
Traveller519 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Saturday Night Live
I'm a Beck fan. But he can't hold a candle to Taran as the promo moderator. Taran's snaps between his phone and the interview were so dear and the face he did were better than the inquisitive one Beck did. I always enjoy the whole cast skits in the final episode. This one had more comedy than the Southern Rock Jamboree last year. It was a good bit of sketch comedy. Everyone rapping at the end and Keenan's, "I told you this would happen" were the right tags. The elderly gentleman just giving it for Katy's second performance is the sly MVP of the evening. -
Illness... I said last week that giving Marvin a more significant role may lead to Pops being sent to live on a farm (the leisure suit farm). If that comes to pass I am going to be a puddle.

I think a lot of us felt that "Parks & Rec Style" Final Season was going to be the way to go. It looks like they're doing exactly that, time jump and everything. Hopefully they follow the same narrative and treat it more like an Epilogue than a Final Chapter. A little bit of fan service to know all our friends are going to be okay. Biggest question, will anyone still be in the loft? It would likely be Nick and Jess and not Winston and Aly, but we shall see!

I love that the Cat was voiced by Maria Bamford in his dream. I hope she pops up again

Adam, I know it's high school and emotions are high, but if your relationship involves you and your girlfriend coming to an epic confrontation every week that has you questioning if your relationship is going to continue, she's probably not for you, no matter how much she's into the same things as you. Lainey did Barry dirty. But that was a sweet moment they had on the steps. Their relationship always felt earned. I loved how Lainey couldn't help but love him and adored his passion. I'll be sad to see her go. The last digit of 198x being cut out of the cake was a nice touch. Was the "Soccer Club: See Coach Mellor" poster in the hallway some foreshadowing for both the show and the spin-off?
