But isn't that based on the defendant's assertions? Who knows how much he really sold it for? I don't know how much she was suing for because I missed the beginning. But if it's a travel trailer that one can ostensibly live in, does it having broken axles mean it has no value? It doesn't really matter, but I'm not used to seeing JJ rely so much on a defendant's testimony, especially one she caught in a lie anyway. It was just weird to me.

Well, comedy is definitely subjective. Lachlan, for me, was funnier in the finale, but that was the only time in the entire competition I thought he was funnier than Rod Man. I had no trouble following what Rod Man was saying, but that may be why he repeats his punchlines. Maybe others have told him they have trouble understanding him. I don't think Rod won because he was Keenan's favorite. I think Rod Man won because the judges thought that, over the course of the show, he was funniest one. It's subjective, but I don't sense any type of producer shenanigans with the winner. Now, if Nikky had won, maybe. LOL.

I really liked this episode, after the last couple, which I thought were just okay. I, too, love the lack of slut-shaming. My favorite scene was the one in which Edgar is calling in to the radio show. I loved the way that was shot and the various things he was doing as he talked to the shock jock.

I caught a JJ case this morning (no idea when it originally ran; it was on my DVR) in which a woman had her travel trailer stolen while she was in jail. The defendant, who had stolen it, was so marble-mouthed they had to use close-captions! Seriously, without the CC, I would have had no idea what he was saying. Anyway, I was confused about JJ's ruling. The thief sold the plaintiff's travel trailer for $1,500, so that's what JJ awarded the plaintiff. Shouldn't JJ have awarded the plaintiff the value of the travel trailer instead of the amount the thief got for it? Isn't it possible that he sold it for more and lied about the price? Or that he sold it for less than it was worth so he could get rid of it faster? Her ruling had me scratching my head.

I get four freaking episodes of JJ a night, and I've never seen this one, either. Dangit.

I felt that way, too. Their attitude toward him didn't seem to contain any sympathy. His only crime was having had an affair, which certainly doesn't justify his being killed.

People's circumstances change. Sure there are litigants who continue to make bad decisions, and I agree with her ire toward them. However, sometimes a person loses their job, loses a spouse who had been contributing, has a health issue that puts them in financial distress, etc. My problem with JJ these days is that she doesn't seem to discern between people who fell on hard times and people who have spent their lives finding ways to support themselves. She seems to think everyone is scamming the system, and not everyone on the system is scamming it. Anyway, I'm ready for some new episodes, too. I don't even watch regularly, and I'm seeing episodes I've seen at least once before!

Agreed. I don't have any kids, but my girlfriend does. She pays $200 a week for daycare for her 4-year-old, and that's considered a good price. So for a parent making minimum wage, that would almost eat up their entire paycheck. It absolutely makes sense sometimes for a parent to stay home. I'm pretty sure I'm going to hate-watch "Hot Court." I already kind of hate-watch JJ, although I do sometimes agree with her. She really needs a Fox News show; she'd fit in over there.

I'm late to this party, but I'm glad you guys have covered this. JJ really ticked me off during this episode, too. Since when is it a crime (moral or otherwise) to make a profit on a sale? About a year ago, I purchased a used Acura SUV for $5,000. It was in amazing condition and had low miles, for an Acura. The Blue Book on the thing was damn near $10K. The seller was a military guy who was being transferred overseas and was desperate to sell it. Since I didn't know the guy, I was suspect of the deal I was getting, so I had my mechanic look at the car (thank you, TV court shows), and it checked out. So I bought it, even though I didn't need another car. I purchased it intending to flip it. I sold it a month later to my girlfriend for $7,500, which was still a really great deal for her and also netted me a $2,500 profit. She knew exactly how much I paid for it and was thrilled to get the car for $7,500. I only sold it that cheaply because she was my girlfriend. Anyone else would've had to pay me $10K, and I wouldn't have felt a tinge of guilt about it. I think you guys are right. JJ only respects people who do "traditional" things. Her list of hated people includes: dog breeders; people who have the temerity to collect unemployment or disability; people who sell their wares on the internet; anyone who goes to college after the age of 25; couples who cohabitate without getting married; who else am I missing?

Thank you for taking the time to do what I was way to lazy to do myself. You'd think in the age of the internet, I'd look stuff up more often, but I'm on a computer all day at work, and the last think I want to do at home is more freaking research. So, thank you, thank you, thank you. I'd never heard of this before, either. I, for one, am glad if JJ starts getting new sayings. I'm over some of the old ones! Now if I could just get Marilyn over on TPC to stop with the, "did I breathe and give you the impression I was finished" line. She says that WAY too much.

Not having the public vote at all was a big plus for me, and part of the reason I decided to watch this season. I love the American people; I served six years in the Army to help protect them, so I'm not anti-American. But they vote horribly. It's largely why I stopped watching The Voice (at least once the public starts voting) and American Idol. I don't trust the public any more than Wanda Sykes does!

When Keenen said that, I wondered if he didn't realize once Rod said "corn on the cob," that he was, indeed, talking about corn. I didn't necessarily dislike Nikki throughout the competition, but I didn't think she was a strong enough comic to make the final 3. And I really thought she bombed last night. The athlete's feet material is really old and tired. Although I understood why Machi was sent packing, I would have loved to have seen what he'd have done during a final set; I think he'd have done way better than Nikki did. I was glad Rod won, as I think he was the best of the bunch all season long. I didn't think he was at his strongest either, but I laughed at the his material about Mexican culture because when I moved from PA to AZ that was one of the things I had to get used to. I have people coming to my door to sell me tamales and there's a corn truck that comes by periodically, and I don't even live in a predominantly-Mexican neighborhood. I can also relate to the bit about them not sleeping, although my across-the-street neighbors are nice and do turn down the music if I ask them to. They really do seem to have an endless supply of energy; I'm jealous of that. I liked Lachlan last night for the first time in a while. But I think he had such a weak set last week that I'm not sure anything he could have done this week would have gotten him the win.

Well, I'm no Youtube sensation, but I'm a sensation in my own mind. So, maybe I can be a judge on PR. I can hear it now, "And our guest just tonight is, a sensation in her own mind, teebax." I don't want this to be the last season, but I do think the show needs a refresher. For sure, it could do without Nina and Zac. I would like to see Char get some attention, positive or negative. She hasn't been in the top or bottom all season. I wasn't crazy about her look, but I do wish the judges would acknowledge that she's alive. I had her in my top 3 during the first week (mostly for her pants) and the movie theater challenge.

Last night, I got a rerun of a case I didn't understand the first time around, and still don't understand. There was a couple who said they stay together, despite their constant fighting, because they have a child together that they gave up for adoption. I really wish JJ had probed a little more into the logic of that.

I wonder when new episodes return.

I rented a room in a house once. I was in my early 20s, recently out of the military, living in a new city where I knew no one, and making minimum wage. My rent was $350 per month. I did it because I didn't have enough to scrape together for an apartment deposit (which I needed because I had no credit) and the homeowner didn't require anything other than first month's rent. It allowed me to live in a relatively nice neighborhood. At that time, the only way I could have had my own place would have been to move to a part of town I wouldn't be comfortable living in. Also, my lease was month-to-month, so I was able to leave as soon as I'd saved enough, which didn't take long since my housing expenses were so low.

I dated a woman whose house looked very similar to Gretchen's apartment. Actually, I should correct myself. I dated a woman until I found out her house looked very similar to Gretchen's apartment. I had always wondered why she insisted on coming to my place all the time. Then, I saw hers and figured it out. I couldn't date her after that, because I couldn't stop myself from thinking that if her place was that dirty, how dirty was her body? Fair or not, I had to end it. Anyway, this episode was just okay for me. I didn't like the way they handled Edgar's PTSD. And Lindsay with her jaw wired shut just wasn't funny to me. I did like the scenes with Sam and his explanation of Craftsman homes. I wouldn't mind more of Sam on the show and less of Lindsay.

I think it's Rod Man's to lose, and I'm fine with that. I'm also fine with the judges' decision to send Machi home. I love his material, but I totally agreed with what Keenan said, so much so that I said something similar as I was watching Joe's set. For me, the moment hit me when he pointed at Russell. I think he let Russell cause him to lose focus. That being said, I thought Lachlan was the weakest tonight and should've been sent packing. His pacing doesn't work for me, and his jokes felt tired. As a black lesbian, I should be team Nikki, but I'm not. I think she's perfectly adequate and has had had her two best sets these last two weeks, but I don't think she's the best comic on the show, and I'd be shocked if she wins the whole thing. I do think she's fearless, which I love in a comic. Like Wanda said, she needs better writing. My money is firmly on Rod Man. I looked up some of his old sets on YouTube, from before Last Comic Standing, and he's really come a long way.

OMG - I hope not. I loved her in Getting On, although she wasn't on it that much. I checked IMDB, and they don't have the Season 2 details up yet, so I don't know if Telma is doing Getting On or not.
-
It's a miss for me too. I saw the jokes coming a mile away, so I found nothing funny about either episode. I wanted to love it, as a fan of both Grammer and Lawrence, but it didn't work for me. I am glad to see Thelma getting work though.

Anyone else catch Judge Milian on Last Comic Standing? The bit was tired, but I was pleasantly surprised to see her turn up there.
-
Well, this one wasn't horrible. It was nice to see some actual chemistry between Russ and Linda. I've so far been wondering why in the world they're still married to each other. I didn't really get the secondary story in this episode. The couple that was babysitting for the kids ended up in a bar trying to lure a sexting neighbor to it. What happened to the kids while they were in the bar? Or weren't they the ones babysitting? I may have missed something.

This was my favorite of the three episodes. I thought the writing was sharp, and the insults were hilarious. I have had that awkward key conversation with a few girlfriends (I'm always the one that wants to go slow and freaks out over someone having a key to my house), so it rang very true to me.

Thank you for saying this. I missed the last 3 seasons of PR. Well, I didn't really miss them, I'd just gotten tired of the show and needed a break. So I wondered when they started doing this ridiculous polling that blocks at least 1/4 of my screen. I have a 100-inch screen, so it was really pronounced and distracting. As if there isn't already too much crap on the screen. I know what channel I'm watching, and I know what show I'm watching. Stop telling me. The only thing that's worse, for me, is when they have promos in which people walk across the bottom of the screen. I cannot stand that. I, too, do not understand either of the winning looks so far this season. I'm not fashion expert by any stretch but I know what I think looks good and what I think looks like crap. Both looks that have won were in my mental bottom 3.

S02.E01: Party Boys vs Game Night Girls
teebax replied to Actionmage's topic in Hollywood Game Night
Me too. When it first aired, I was so pissed at him for not even giving a shit about his contestant. The "normals" are trying to win a game, for crying out loud. A part of me even felt sorry for Martin Short because I was embarrassed for him. There's no way I could watch that one again!
