I was attacked by a vicious dog when I was around the same age as the kid on JJ. They didn't call it PTSD, and my parents didn't take me to a therapist, but It was very traumatic, and I remember having nightmares for quite a while. My parents didn't get rid of our family dog, and I eventually got over my fear of big dogs, but I can definitely sympathize with the kid.

I saw this case before as well. It was a rerun, but it's one of those I didn't mind watching again. I'm curious about your comment about him being in the Aryan Brotherhood. Would they "allow" him to have children who are half-Mexican? Isn't that one of the groups they hate? If you end up agreeing with me, PM me your address and I'll send you my next mortgage coupon. You can pay it with you tax refund or pawn a necklace from Walmart. :-)

Yesterday's case of the mother suing her son was really sad to hear. I read up on the story of her husband's murder. Apparently he owned a gun shop and was killed during a robbery by two juvenile delinquents, who beat him to death with a crowbar. So she became a victim's advocate and is pushing for stiffer penalties for minors who commit violent crimes. If the daughter's testimony about the son beating the mother with a crowbar is true, I just don't even have words for that. I suspect they were a normal, loving family that was torn apart by one tragic event. And the guilt the son seems to carry (because the one time he didn't stop by his father's shop was the time his father was murdered) has to be astronomical. The whole thing is just so sad.

I guessed Kenny Loggins, just because I've always associated him with doing soundtracks. I knew it wasn't right, but it amused me. I thought Streisand was a good guess. I would never have guessed Elvis.

I think that was Judge Karen. I don't know if she's still around. I really liked her, but I don't think her show was popular. I'm the only person I know who was watching it, and my friends and I are a court-show loving bunch! Are there any other new court shows I should check out? I'm currently only watching TPC, Hot Bench, and Judge Judy. There's room for at least one more. Regarding the cases yesterday, I'll never understand how a member of a minority group can be a bigot. And it happens all the time. I'm a lesbian, and I can't tell you how many women have told me they don't date Asian women, or white women, or black women, or Mexican women. It's so freaking bizarre to me. Like the black judge said (sorry, don't know her name yet) if you've ever been a victim of a racial attack, how could you possibly do that to someone else? I imagine most gay people have been attacked at some point in some way. So when I meet a gay bigot I'm always taken aback. I liked the way they ruled on that case, and I noticed the racist Mexican plaintiff didn't stick around for a hallterview.

The drunk ladies were just gross to me. I know it will make me sound sexist, but I can't stand to see women drunk off their asses. Yes, I drink. Yes, I'm a female. But I don't drink to the point where I'm pissing myself, forgetting where I put my money, or in need of police intervention. I'm not a fan of drunk dudes either, but there's something about drunk women that is just particularly sad and off-putting. I know alcoholism is a disease, but all parties involved seemed to think the whole thing was just so funny. I hope they don't drive in that condition. It's a lot like the way I view women having physical fights with each other (usually over some worthless man). It's gross and not ladylike at all. And I say that as a tomboy.

The Mysteries Of Laura - General Discussion
teebax replied to David T. Cole's topic in The Mysteries Of Laura
I didn't buy Debra Messing's character at all. What is it with shows making female cops have junk food addictions? She looks incredibly fit for someone who eats so horribly. I know you can be thin and unhealthy, but her looks didn't match her being a slob, dressing the way she did, or her diet. It just didn't work for me. And those freaking kids? I don't have kids, but I have lots of nieces and nephews. I'm sure there are obnoxious, precocious kids out there, but I am not tuning into a TV show to watch them. I watch TV to relax, not to have my blood pressure boil over as I watch two hellions running around while the parents largely ignore it. No thanks. -
I am on a mission to ban this expression. Unfortunately, my petition has only been signed by me. Seriously, I can't stand this phrase and want to punch anyone in the face who says it. I work in a white-collar sweatshop, and I can't tell you how many times I hear this expression. It's like nails on a chalkboard. And then suddenly it went from the boardroom to the "court" room, and now every other litigant says it during the hallterview. Ugh!

I like the show more, too. I don't like it as much as You're the Worst, but I think it's settled into a nice groove. I don't despise Russ as much as I used to. I can even sympathize with him just a little. I'd like some sort of a flashback episode, if only to show how much fun Lina and Russ were before they had kids and lost the surf shop.

S01.E10: Fists and Feet and Stuff

I have completely fallen in love with this show. So, if it does get cancelled you can blame me. That was one of the best season finales I've ever seen. The BBQ blowout scene was so awesome I watched it multiple times. I loved Jimmy's exasperated look when he tried to explain to Vernon the sequence of events between him and Becca. I loved Edgar casually stepping in an putting Vernon in a choke-hold. I really hope this gets renewed. -
I'm like you. It's not that I don't like kids, I have seven nieces and nephews. But I have no idea what ages they are. I can tell five from fifteen, but just barely. And don't get me started on older teens, I pass by a high school on my morning commute, and some of them look like they're in their twenties. There was a sixteen year old boy at my nephew's birthday party last Saturday who had a full beard. No guys in my high school had beards. This kid could've gotten served at a bar! I was happy to see Char finally in the top, and I'm glad she didn't take Tim's advice. I don't think fringes would've helped Sean. That print he chose just wasn't right for this challenge. I hate to say it, but I liked Korina this week. I had a lady try to cut in front of me at a store recently, and I didn't handle it quite as graciously as Korina did. I don't know what Sandhaya's deal is, but she seems like someone who alienates people and then whines that people dislike her. I think she lacks social skills. Regardless, I'm fine with her being gone, as she has yet to make anything I understood or thought should win.

I thought she was completely insane and completely capable of that mice stunt (just typing that gives me the willies; I hate mice). That just seems like such a crazy thing for a person to make up that it almost has to be true, know what I mean? And Judge Judy would have had a field day with the six degrees of separation of hearsay crazy landlady presented about the defendant having a gun at the house. I absolutely believe the landlady wasn't living there at all. Are you sure it just wasn't moved? My local channel seems to move TPC every new season. It was on a 4, and then it started coming on at 3. This season it's on at noon.

That was what I was wondering as well. That is not an inexpensive trip to take, nor is it an inexpensive place to live. He said he had to go to nursing school there because he couldn't get into nursing school in the US. That whole story seemed odd to me.

An appellate court for JJ would be AWESOME! What a wonderful idea. I'm not sold on this one, either. I thin it'd be better served by an hour-long format instead of cramming all this into 30 minutes. Or just do one case in 30 minutes. I don't know. It's not working well for me. That lady with the historic mansion was a piece of work. Who the hell meets someone in the ER and asks for thousands of dollars within a week or so? What's even crazier is that the plaintiff gave her all her savings. WTH??!! Judge Bakman said she's nice because she's from the midwest. I don't care where she's from, that's a ridiculously stupid thing to do.

Now I'm wondering how many people secretly hate me in real life. I totally do that thing with my glasses. I probably should get bifocals, but I'm starting my third year of being 39 years old, and there's a part of me that just can't make the leap to bifocals or progressive lenses. I don't want to admit I'm 39+2. Wearing my glasses like that, I'm sure, makes me look even older, if I'm honest with myself. As someone who lost a bunch of recordings to a couple of fried DVRs, I can't reiterate this advice enough. I put a separate hard drive on mine and am now much less worried about losing valuable recordings. My other advice? Don't keep your DVR inside of an entertainment center. Those babies get wicked hot, and it messes them up. I'm on my third Dish Network Hopper. Now it sits on top of the entertainment center. I know all the other cases that were mentioned, but am not familiar with "Baby Boy Poodle." What's that one about?

I had previously read on here that a lot of you disliked Carnie Wilson. Not having seen her episode (or her in anything since her Wilson Phillips days) I wondered how someone could have so many people dislike her. I wonder no more. My goodness, she was really annoying. And she said that was the toned down version of the last time she was on? Ugh. I'm really glad Laila won. I liked her demeanor in the kitchen. Despite all of Carnie's histrionics, Laila remained calm and just did her thing. I felt bad for Brandi, as her food looked amazing.

I definitely didn't like this as much as I like JJ and The People's Court. It'll probably be one I DVR but only watch when I'm bored and out of everything else.

I went to high school with a girl named Crystal Ball.

I don't see forum so I'll ask here - did any of you check out Hot Bench? What did you think?
-
That was awful. Did some of them not understand the last letter and first letter of each state category? There were a lot of low-valued clues that were TS's. Strange game and not at all entertaining. It doesn't help that I just watched the Decades Tournament over the weekend while clearing my DVR.

It was certainly bothering me! I thought her, "I love you," or whatever she said at the beginning to MM was really cute, though.

It was a case about two guys that got into a fight at a party. The uninvited guest put his hands on the homeowner's girlfriend, which set him off. He was explaining to JJ that he was drinking Captain and Coke (one of my drinks of choice). JJ didn't know what Captain Morgan was. When she asked Byrd, he lifted up his leg and said it's rum. It was really funny. I don't think MM is as mean as JJ, although I agree that she has a temper. I don't get the sense that she pre-judges cases. There have been a few times when she's admitted she thought a case was going to go one way but, after hearing the testimony, it goes another way. I also think she's much fairer in her verdicts, even when she doesn't agree with the law. I watch them both, but I sometimes have to take a break from JJ. I don't have that happen with MM. If I were crazy enough to go on a court show, I'd pick TPC just because I'd think I'd get a fairer shake than on JJ. Btw, I also am glad JJ pointed out the ridiculousness of having a child at 60. My parents had my little sister at 42, and even that was a bit of a stretch. They just didn't have the energy to raise a kid the way they raised the rest of us, and she ended up being spoiled rotten since they had a lot more money than they did when the rest of us were coming up. I'm not saying that's true in all cases, just my anecdotal evidence.
-
He was another one of those people who thinks the law doesn't apply to him. He must have been a nightmare to live with. He was using the school schedule as a convenient excuse for his bad behavior.
-
What was even sadder was his stupid mother sitting there grinning like the village idiot. It's no wonder so many of these kids have no common sense. His mama didn't tell him it's not a good idea to sue for something you did that was illegal? If I'd even considered doing something so stupid as a child, my mother would've knocked some damn sense into me.

Wait - my ex-girlfriend was on JJ?! Yup - she totally was. LOL. Seriously- we have a bunch of those ladies in our lesbian community where I live. I don't tick any of those boxes, but sometimes stereotypes exist for a reason! Those overly-domineering types don't last too long with me. I have this nasty habit of having my own opinion and doing whatever the hell I want. I imagine living in a home with her is quite miserable.
