This is turning into my second favorite new comedy, behind black-ish. I thought having Nina's rival not try to embarrass her at the event was a nice twist. Most network shows would have gone there. The show does feel sure-footed. I think that's because they have such a talented cast; I've seen most of the actors do really strong ensemble work previously. I also like that it's on USA, which may give the show more time to grow an audience than a network would (looking at you, ABC).

He apparently likes bacon and rolls - just what every growing asthmatic boy needs. Co-signed. Nice work, as I expected. You guys are always on top of the sleuthing of the interwebs. I continue to be impressed. Pennsyltucky.

Thanks for the link. That article is from 2007, when the son was five. It's one-sided, so I'm not sure how much of it I believe. It's amazing to me how many JJ litigants seem to be in the trouble over and over. I don't know about you, but I've managed to buy more soda in my lifetime than should be allowed yet never ended up assaulted in the process. There has to be more to that story!

You all have covered this stuff so well You've left little for me to add. I'm jealous of you folks on the east coast who get to see these episodes before we do out west. Of course it was sunny and 80 today in AZ, so I'm not terribly jealous; just a tad. Anyway... In the Modesto idiots in an uninsured Mustang case, did the plaintiff really think that's how insurance works? I trade cars with you and you drive on my insurance while I drive on yours? Do you know the insanity that shit would create if that were the case? I can just imagine losing my home because some jerkwad I swapped cars with ran over a bus full of orphans (TM Marilyn Milian) and I got sued for every thing I own. Once again, we need insurance education along with drivers' education. However, I was recently informed they're no longer teaching drivers' education in public schools, so i may need to give up that dream. But I digress.... The case of the homeschooling hillbillies just made me sad. The maternal grandmother said the kid was an honor roll student when his mother was alive and raising him. Now they're giving him very little chance of success. And, as an asthmatic, I agree that if he could fly on an airplane and spend a day at the JJ studio, his asthma could be controlled well enough for him to go to school. Based on the size of the kids I see outside of schools these days, running a marathon isn't a requirement. Can any of you Internet sleuths do a little digging about this case? Is it possible to find out if JJ was able to help the maternal grandmother get custody? This is yet another case begging for follow up. Maybe they can bring back JJ After Dark and give us some more information on these types of cases.

Instead of a TV in every room of her house, she should consider having one TV with a treadmill in front of it. I tend to avoid fat-shaming because we don't always know why people have weight problems, but her bragging about having a TV in every room makes me comfortable with saying she needs another hobby. Her arms were bigger than my freaking thighs! If she can't be without TV for a little while, she could at least get some exercise while watching it.And her makeup was atrocious. I don't think MM commented on it; that might have been the hallway dude who asked her about it. I do like that MM took the time to research her claim, though, I've had a plasma TV break In a similar manner during a move. You don't know it until you turn it on. My brother broke mine. I didn't have to sue him because he did the right thing and replaced it, even though I didn't ask him to. How reasonable and boring we are in my family.

I wondered what the age difference was between Miss Nuts Over Truck lady and the boyfriend. It was hard for me to sympathize with her. Don't grt me wrong, the defendant earned no points from me. But, I despise people who park directly behind me in unmarked spots. If the diagram on the show was correct, she was parking wherever the hell she wanted. That crap really pisses me off. I did sympathize with the salon lady, even though there's no way she sells commercial "insurances" for a living. I think she just didn't want to tell JJ what she does, but that answer was quite shady. As a commercial "insurances" agent, I was offended. It may be the epitome of first-world problems, but I agreed with JJ's ruling. That spa owner totally lied to her about what they were getting. Can you imagine the look on her face when she showed up to this Micky Mouse operation? I would've been ticked off, too. When my girlfriend and I go for a spa day, we expect to be getting treatments together. I was rolling my eyes at potential Bridezilla until she proved she had a contract for 600 pictures. She paid for platinum, dammit! And that DJ sending any available warm body he could find to do her wedding was a lying liar who lies. I refuse to comment on PRIORLY. Ugh.

Alex said after the first round that maybe the board was too difficult. Did any of you agree with him? It seemed like standard Jeopardy stuff to me. That was painful to watch.

The Sophie stuff drives me nuts. I hate the audience hooting and hollering every time she enters. And I love Jennifer Coolidge. I just hate this character. I checked last week's ratings and this show is doing better than Dancing with the Stars, Gotham (my personal favorite Monday show) and Scorpion but losing to The Voice. So not many of us are commenting, but somebody is watching it. This is one of the shows I watch the next morning while ironing my clothes and getting ready for work. It makes me laugh once in a while but not nearly as much as it used to. I like the rapport between Max and Caroline. I also like Earl. The rest of the diner staff can go, as far as I'm concerned.

I can't believe she married the guy and then sued the neighbor, who they dragged into their drama.I didn't know that people literally kick other people in the ass. I should have known that from the expression, "kick his ass" but I've never heard of it actually happening. That mofo would have pulled back a bloody stump if he did that to me. She wasn't even dating him at that point but, apparently, having seen how much he wanted her she had no choice but to date then marry him after he literally kicked her ass. Smh. I've already ranted enough on this board about women fighting over losers, and I don't know if the neighbor was all that into him. But if she was? Why??? I don't get it. And before you say I wouldn't get it becaue I'm gay, I see this crap in the gay community, too.

I love that show! I thought they were aging her with makeup. I guess it's hard to believe Jackie from Roseanne is that old now. It wasn't lost on me, BTW, that one of her kids on the show is named Jackie.

I loved it, too. I don't know many shows with the courage to allow the main family to actually be evicted (I'm sure others have examples of it, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.) It was definitely dark, which is surprising for a Chuck Lorre show. I was worried they were going to cop out when "Crusty" won the bet, but I'm glad they had her get mugged. And I know it's a mileage-may-vary thing, but I loved the stereotype joke. I thought this was just one of those shows I watched casually because it came on after Mike & Molly. Then I realized around the end of September I hadn't seen any new episodes (my DVR skips over commercials automatically, so I never see promos). Anyway, I ran to the internet to see if it had been cancelled, and that's when it hit me how much I really like this show. The thought that it might have been cancelled actually ticked me off!

What a great idea for a thread! I'm clearly late to the party, as I didn't know this thread was here. I have been trying to find Friday's episodes, which my local channel cheated me out of. If anyone has a link, I'd be most appreciative. I looked on Youtube and had no luck.

VB68 posted that link yesterday. It's just a few posts above yours. It was a good article, and I appreciated the writer's take on the show. I knew when it aired it would be controversial, but I think comedy should be that way. My favorite comics are the ones who can make me cringe and make me laugh at the same time. Some of my favorites are Louis CK, George Carlin, Chris Rock, Richard Pryor, and Daniel Tosh. I don't always like the jokes, but they make me think. I'll take that over fart and dick jokes any day!

"ETA: I kind of hate that this episode was so painful, because I totally support that SNL has tried to up its game in the diversity department, and an episode with an abudance of sketches putting the black cast members front and center failing so badly just gives fuel to all the jerks who were against the idea of adding more people of color to the cast "just becuase"." Anyone that narrow-minded would have hated this episode regardless of whether or not it was actually good. I've lived through years of a cast that was begging for some diversity. SNL didn't just pull these performers in from the street. And before last night's episode lots of people were begging for Leslie to be added to the cast. I'm willing to chalk up her mistakes to nerves, but I'm probably more forgiving than most. I think the bigger problem is the update desk, but I fear we're stuck with Jost and Che, at least for this season. I wish in the "How's he doing" sketch they'd have had courage to discuss why the Democeat party refuses to stand up for the president by highlighting the good things the administration has done. It's a continual frustration for me as a voter, but outside of MSNBC and Bill Maher, I rarely hear anyone talk about it on TV. They could have done that In a funny way instead of just furthering the offensive notion that black people just support him becuase of his race.

I really liked this episode, as I knew I would. Chris Rock is one of my favorite comedians, and his monologue was perfect for me. I don't mind cringe-humor, and I had the same thought about the Freedom Tower. I'm not feeling the Weekend Update guys. I actually miss Cecily on the desk. I know Jost is head writer, but he's terrible on the desk. Che is okay, but he can go, too. I wouldn't miss him.

My local station screwed up so I got the same two old episodes twice on Friday. Now I'm on a mission to find the episodes you guys are discussing. Off to the internet I go. It sounds like I missed a couple of doozies. Why can't my local station screw up when it's girlfriend / boyfriend drama cases?

I have read in multiple places that the $5,000 pot that most people think JJ pays from is incorrect. Here's one link to a former litigant's story. Now he was on in 2012 (in fact, I think I remember his episode), so it may be different now. He was paid an $850 appearance fee, $40 per diem, and the amount of the judgment he won. So it sounds like it's still a pretty good deal, if you're willing to subject yourself to public humiliation. Anyway, here's the link: http://www.datalounge.com/cgi-bin/iowa/ajax.html?t=11558226#page:showThread,11558226 I also found something in Wikipedia that says the appearance fee is much less, but I don't know when it was posted and with Wikipedia, which anyone can change, it may not be valid.

I'm glad you mentioned the commercial breaks. This show seems to have way more than other shows I watch. And then they come back and go right back to commercial. I may be more annoyed because of the bevy of political ads I'm getting where I live, though.

I didn't believe all of Ms. Pitt's story, but when she described asking her neighbor for his cell phone and his subsequently handing it to her and shutting the door, I thought to myself, "Yup, they live in Philly." Having lived there myself, I believed that part. It may not even have been the first time that day that one of his neighbors knocked on his door naked asking to borrow a phone. God, I miss Philly! I saw some of the craziest stuff I've ever seen in my life during my time there.

I had read good things about this show (so maybe it gets better), but I thought this pilot was awful. The only thing I liked about it was how the family is accepting of Ty Ritter's character. I don't buy Laurie Metcalf as the mother. She doesn't look old enough (she may be in real life and just have aged well). I also don't see her as married to the dad. I'll probably watch again, since it's paired with Mom, which I love. But I'm not optimistic about this one.
-
Why would he be pissed? Wasn't the alternative him losing the game?
-
I liked that she said that. I don't think it was directed at a certain other TV judge, but I'm going to pretend to myself that it was. These litigants come to court and, usually, believe they're correct in their position. They deserve to have their cases heard by an impartial judge.
-
You are my internet hero. Thanks for posting the list. It really is even funnier now. My coworkers are wondering why I'm cracking up in my office.
-
Yep - she's the best of the TV court judges, IMO, for many reasons. The fact that she actually hears the testimony and at least attempts to accurately apply the law is one of them. I also like that she's not afraid to give a smackdown when needed. JJ has the rep for doing so, but I think Milian's are much more effective since she comes off as being so nice and understanding until (BAM!) smackdown.

I'm not Canadian, but I did sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night! I think there are similarities between American and Canadian insurance laws. And, yes, you're correct that health insurance can be used to pay for medical bills if the party doesn't have medical payments coverage on their auto insurance. I like med pay coverage because: 1. It doesn't cost a lot; 2. It covers yourself AND your passengers. So even if you have medical insurance, your passenger(s) may not. And if they're injured in a car accident they could come after you for their injuries. This no-fault coverage makes settling claims fairly easy, provided you have a high-enough limit to cover the injuries.
