  1. So many, but I think my favorite last night was: "Thank you, Upton Sinclair!"
  2. Finally finished watching this yesterday. For the most part, I loved it and feel no compunction to read the book. I may even name my next pet Clancy! Henry reminded me so much of my Dad... The one thing that took me out of the story was the stupid piano player -- her presence felt so gimmicky. Is she significant to the book? Or perhaps a local celebrity where this was filmed? One other question -- the foot thing. All the closeups of the feet. What was that about? When I saw a 6th toe in one of her dream sequences I thought 'ah hah!" But then the next opportunity to see her feet came in and I realized no, her feet were normal.
  3. This and Black-ish are my 2 favorite shows right now -- not just favorite new shows. I make a point of going to abc.com every week to (re)watch the new episodes, just to up the watch count. I figure it can't hurt...
  4. I just spent the weekend with my sister and her family and introduced them to the show. We watched all 5 episodes and they are hooked. This episode, especially, grabbed my sister. Once the kids got past the confusion over Blacklist/Black-ish (the first being something my nephew's friends watch), they were on board as well (my niece especially enjoyed the "hand-to-gland combat" episode!) This is the first show in a while that I've actively recruited others to watch.
  5. One detail that continues to nag at me--Mama Langston would have married into the Langston family, no? Why is she so invested in the legacy? And why was she hanging around as a child? I can fanwank that her own father could have worked there, she grew up in the area, etc., but I'd just like it to be confirmed. Or... did the factory go by a different name (i.e. her family)?
  6. So... the mystery envelope to Oppenheimer that Akley tossed a couple episodes back. A resignation? A confession that Thin Man would fail? Will we ever know?
  7. How is it that I remember that task but I don't recognize a single one of those racers? Off to refresh my memory with a TWOP recap...
  8. I loved her quick retorts with Mom about the siblings: "probably several times" and "optimis-tic" -- will have to rewatch to get her comment on Jack.
  9. I really, really disliked Sean's street look and just don't understand the praise. First of all, the top swamped the model and wasn't flattering. at. all. And 2) didn't Kini do those collar bone slits with his Amercian Girl dress? (Can't find any photos to confirm). I gave up on the judges many seasons ago (after Gretchen's win) and have only watched intermittenly since. I can't remember what sucked me in this year--it was probably the snarky recaps on the home page!
  10. What jarred me was Leo saying he's only known Kara 5 days. Really?!! Only 5 days have elapsed since the pilot? I'm trying to hang on for Olivia Spencer, and Wilson Cruz, and Charlie Rowe. But my ability to suspend my disbelief is wearing thin.
  11. I'm officially in love with Diane -- all the kids' personalities really came through this week but Diane especially won me over. So many great lines but my favorite, even if spoiled by the promos, was still "Pilates!"
  12. Loved it--watched in one sitting, with subtitles (highly recommended). Agree with all the above in re a few WTF plot points (the biking home, Kirsten taking no notice of the mini pulling over, Tommy's magical wound that festered for what... 3 weeks?). One more--I found it completely out of character for the sister to tell the son about the ex-sex going on. It seems to me that that bit of information, if truly necessary to set up the drunken scene later, could have been relayed in an other, more plausible fashion. I also loved how a fire extinguisher came back in the end.
  13. Hee, milkyaqua -- I don't know what your post originally said, but I think "nevermind" is probably the most succinct comment on this show that ever was...
  14. So I followed up on a hunch and rewatched episode 7. The envelope the black scientist passed to Helen was addressed to Frank so it's not the same one Akley burned. But they were both addressed by the same person--very distinctive handwriting. Interesting...
  15. Yes, thanks. My rudimentary Spanish can get me by during the subtitled scenes but my tired, middle-aged eyes can't read the screen when I'm watching from bed...
  16. With the back to back to back airings, I still often miss the start of the show and feel like I've missed plot points--what was the significance of the letter the other team leader burned? Also, can I just say -- Peter Stormare!
  17. I binged on several episodes this afternoon and really enjoyed it. While I found it a little distracting how they'd bounce back and forth among the celebrities (I'm used to Who Do You Think You Are's format), I appreciated the thoroughness, and variety of stories. The one I was most disappointed by was Maggie Gyllenhall, who just seemed so over it all (perhaps my impression of her is skewed because I just finished being wowed by her in Honourable Woman) but she came off as bland and disinterested and distracted the entire time. Every one else I watched (Bacon, Sedgwick, Downey, Gupta, Sykes, Legend, Rodriguez, Chavez, Grenier, Cho, Stewart) seemed genuinely tickled and thrilled by the stories that were uncovered. I'm just about convinced to give that DNA testing a try myself!
  18. What's the story about Dr. Otto's kid? I get the feeling he's not the natural born child of Dr. and Mrs. Otto, plus he's practically a clone of that other couple... And what could have possibly happened in Cyprus? A life-saving operation in the battlefield that left the inspector impotent? And why does red-headed nurse hide her relationship with her sister? Bah! Too many questions, yet too little interest to really care about the answers...
  19. Oh my gosh! I had no idea this was coming back--perfect end of summer brain slushy.
  20. Most of the season I"ve been thinking there's been a lot of lost luggage, and Josh's suit just sealed the deal. I'd be willing to bet they had to buy him a suit in The Dominican Republic and that was the biggest one they could find. Not only was the suit too small, he wore it with brown shoes! Ugh. I do like him, though, and think they're adorable together. It's just too bad the structure of the show always leaves us with someone who's hurt, and the "winner" having to watch his/her fiance(e) fooling around with other people.
  21. I'm underwhelmed. Too many holes in the plot -- how convenient that the female attorney just happens to show up 1) right when Will has a rendezvous with a former client and 2) she happens to recognize said persona as an ex-con. Interesting characters in search of a more fully fleshed out plot, I think. The clever bits weren't earned, and the motivations of the bad guy were what -- he's a psycho, no explanation needed? Not worth tracking down, no matter how big a Tennant fan.
  22. Aside from the violence, what I found most jarring were the admittedly lovely, photogenic home sets. Huge, modern, multi-level apartment (which is showcased when Tennant goes running through the place on his way to his son who is having a nightmare), yet the son himself appears to be sleeping in a windowless closet! I've seen enough British design shows to have seen bedrooms like the boy's, but not in a place that is otherwise apparently a modern high rise. Perhaps I missed something about the source of their apparent wealth... It just seemed non-sensical to me, especially for a lawyer who hasn't yet earned his "silk". And the woman attorney, too, seemed to have a much posher place than her job would have seemed to afford her at this point in her career (compare it to the place the lead in Silk had).
  23. Finally saw Season Once with a binge-watch yesterday. I'd heard bits and pieces via critic reviews and other articles last year so I kind of knew what to expect but the part I wasn't prepared for was the glacial pace. I'm not complaining -- I was just surprised. I actually like Ted a lot more than I expected to (perhaps I just like Clayne Crawford too much to hate his character). But one (admittedly superficial) detail that bothered me was Amantha's wardrobe, especially the boots. I'm already struggling with the casting -- the actors just don't look like brother and sister, or daughter and mother -- but those boots just didn't make any sense to me as a fashion choice... until I recognized one of her necklaces from the Sundance catalog. And then I realized her entire wardrobe is from the Sundance catalog. Suddenly it was all I could focus on -- Tawney's house and wardrobe also include quite a few Sundance items, and if I rewatched I'm sure I'd spot more in the Talbot household too. I realize it probably says more about my catalog shopping habits than it does the set dressers/costumers choices but it definitely took me out of the story, and I found myself annoyed by the product placement. Hopefully, by watching season 2 one episode per week, I can get back into the story... 'cause I do want to know where it's going.
  24. I read this morning that Andi has asked to go back to work at the DA's office, which would indicate things are going well with Josh and they are planning their future in Atlanta together. At the very least, it looks like she's done with the reality circuit.
