Oh that was hilarious. Ed O'neil still can turn crap into gold with his acting and timing. Even though they give him so little. However, I'm just over "Gloria hates Stella" storylines, when it her was her idea and Manny's 8 years ago to get Stella. I'm surprised Stella is still alive at this point and Gloria didn't kill her and then blamed breaking a remote as a the cause. Same goes with Lily's storylines, they are just... so... bad! I know they were trying to joke that Cam and Mitch just don't get Lilly anymore, but it's been so painful the last couple of years and the actress I think is just playing herself at this point. She doesn't seem to care about anything.

Yeah, shows fall into these traps of "no family, no friends" with people. You just want to go: "What? Were they born adults and complete shut ins?" Its one thing when you are building a TV show or just don't want to pay a bunch of actors to be these friends. However, with that said, seriously? Jon had no one? It's not the 1940-1960s anymore. People can't just hide their "secret" lives as easily as they once did. Yes, they can take steps to ensure they have no contact with others, due to: arguments, disagreements, where they came from. However, it gets to the point where you just want to go: "So, they just went work and had a family over the course of 15 years and they had no one else?" Bullshit.

Yep, those have been the main ones along with: Jay knows how to use facetime, no wait he doesn't know what an Amazon Echo is. Oh, he can order and subscribe to sausages shipping online, but oh wait why can't he use this damn hand sensor sink? Oh Alex is a geek, no wait she plays in a band and knows how to get her "sexy on" oh no wait, she dresses like she is 65 years old, no wait she wants to dress more "her age" no wait, she thinks her father is naive, no wait she really NEEDS him in her life.

When you have a cast like this, you want to switch things up, because people have different relationships no matter how close or how distant they are. Dylan turning into Maya, oh yes, I saw that happening. Especially after hearing about how Maya was in the past. JJ's issues changed all of that. Yeah, it's going to the point of very bad. It's not like there aren't high school boys who have these issues. Wondering why they can't get a girlfriend and then do things that pretty much keep you from getting what you want. However, this is going too far. It's like with Kenneth having money one day and then all of a sudden so poor he has to see one of his former accusations or exes for some really "valued" item he can sell or wants to get back. It goes to the point where why doesn't he just declare bankruptcy.

S05.E12: Legends of the Fortieth

Wow! All the character work and then they had Evan make a mistake like that. -
It also gave more depth to Mark as a result. His situation with Rosanne at his appartment back in season 5 rang more of: "Well, I care about Becky and you really don't know my life." Which was cliche, however when Darelene finally came clean to her parents on what David were going through. They pretty much saw why Mark and David were so screwed up. I do kind of wish Lisa and Nikki did show up if there is another season. Be interesting if they came up very adjusted and were the type of kids that went: "Our crappy parents did not DEFINE our lives." Be a nice change for once.
-
Right and when Mark came back, we finally got all the background on why he wanted to get far away from his family as much as possible when they pushed David on the show. When he came back, they all acted like their dad ran out on them and not their mother was an abusive bitch. Even when they thought David left to go live with his mother. Seriously, no one didn't go: "Wait, why why would he go live with her when he was ready to run away?" Nope, nah it was all their dad's fault and those extra two younger siblings they had? Who are they?

College and on on the Free Form Spin off: Grown-ish in its second season. Why they couldn't just ship Junior off there since they have NO IDEA what to do with him, came down to a budget issue.

I just hate when shows do this, especially since I'm in education. I have this problem with Speechless and I have this problem when I see things on American Housewife. They portray administration or schools as complete idiots or they are slaves to people with money. Cam's situation started last year and they didn't explain anything of how he could be a VP or acting. Even though you can just Google it and see what certifications or special vouchers are needed. Even going as far as most schools do "hire within" even if the people aren't the most qualified for it. After the entire sting operation that Cam blew thanks to being 1. Mitch's stupid little speech about it was "impossible" for that thing to happen (which has been going on for years). 2. Cam HAS to make things all about him or the fact that the principal, school board superintendent, would have told him these types of things. Plus, the under cover cop would NOT want attention called to himself by putting the biggest baby on the school staff on the video streaming service. Now, they have Cam acting like he is in the poorest school district and the students are complete idiots who couldn't get a job at McDonalds. Both Alex and Manny's facial expressions were: "What planet are you from?" Yeah, I'm tired of that too. Gloria has been shown several times to not be able to activate a remote control that isn't working because it needs new batteries. Yet, Gloria smashes it because she can't look and gets accused by everyone they know she broke it. Yet, keeps going: "No, it wasn't me... it was Joe or we had someone steal the remote." Even when being video recorded, she still acts like it wasn't here but her evil twin sister. With Jay, we see him an expert using a Google Mini, but thinks an Amazon Echo is a coffee grinder. He can use an Apple Watch and Facetime, yet can't use a motion sensor sink. Jay can use a Nest system, but then gets freaked out when a toilet automatically flushes when he is zipping up. It's not funny, it's inconsistent on the writers who don't know how to write Jay for a cheap joke.

Rome really has the most interest because his depression and what lead to those issues were bits and pieces of things that ate away at him. It would be interesting if he was manic depressant because sometimes that can be hidden for years before signs show up. Then small little things show up and starts tearing you apart. I had a classmate who was misdiagnosed until college, then it hit him like a ton of bricks.
-
Yet if someone started sharpening a pencil and telling him he was a nobody, he run to his room and hide under his bed and then say: "I'm having a GAP year from the family."

Truth! Same with if they are going to try and say that Katherine has another side no one sees, but then we as the audience just don't see that. So, how can you make us go; "Well, yes Eddie is a man child, but I see how Katherine wasn't making things easy." Yet, we get Katherine is kicking ass, but just didn't take more notice of things and was more like: "Well, that's Eddie, next case please, I have a mortgage to pay."
-
I also like to know why Maggie never got any information on why her mother felt "smothered" by her husband. She even said whens he finally left him: "I feel I could finally breathe." Yet Maggie never once goes; "Why, why would you ever feel like that? Dad was never like that to me." Yet, it was just ignored or Maggie did her: "Ok, I'm just going to give you my deer in the headlights look and stop talking and go buy milk later." They can't turn Maggie into a mature person, because she constantly acts like she is 9. I know everyone on the show acts like they are in middle school, but Dear God! Maggie never grows as a character or anything and as much as the writer staff seems to love the actress, her character is horrible.

I feel you with the epilepsy situation, as my wife has epilepsy and I was dating a girl at the time who also has epilepsy and wasn't really happy with the episode either. I also feel you on Chloe especially after they brought her back and her "cop husband" admitted that Chloe was using on and off, but didn't try to get her clean again or contact Susan or anyone else and then decided to cheat on her. Because that was going to go "so well over" with Chloe on her drug problems. Bad writing for the sake of drama.

Yeah, but that would have been season 3 Becky, one who researched all of that and talked to her counselors about things. Instead it was: "My life is over because my parents were TOO stupid to run a business or keep a job from a company that was going under." Of course we also got Dan: "I have a great job, benefits, an ACTUAL retirement plan, but I do have another kid on the way in my 40s, Prison Job that will pay a crap load of money for me in a year you say? Sure, time I quit and go back to 'what if' jobs because I don't need any of what I just mentioned."
-
That's the thing, we have yet to see how "awful" Katherine is if all she is doing is picking up the same take out all the time. I see more on how Jon and Delilah's marriage started falling apart and I agree, Jon should have spent time with his kids on his last night. We have yet to see any sign he really had any remorse or regret about his two kids. I agree as others have said that Delilah seems to view her kids as just there instead of real caring for them. However, Eddie doesn't come off in any sympthy anywhere. He can't open his mouth about the smallest things. I mean really all he had to say was: "Why do you always get the same take out all the time? There are other places or just send me a text, and I'll make dinner or something." Oh no, he rather just do his guitar lessons, his occasional tours and when he needs to be "the fun dad" and let's Katherine just support and do everything. Of course, could Katherine also go: "You know, I do work too much and it's not me and I need you to pull your weight too." Of course the writers could show that Katherine has just become a work addict and finds more comfort in working long hours and hates it when she comes home. It does happy, where people don't want to leave because they feel they don't function off what they feel comfortable with. We have also see that at times, Katherine does have problems related to her own son along the lines of: "Why can't you just do what I tell you?" Umm... he's a kid, it's called being a parent.
-
I think they were all horrible. Truth be told, statistically, affairs are usually the last resorts for those in marriages with these problems. The problem is when it is written this way it becomes cliche. I also think we would feel more towards Jon if we saw more of a focus on his kids. When it came down to it, even though the season still isn't over. He focused on his Jon, his secretary and a type of nostalgia that kept him happy instead of working on what was really the problem. Same goes with both Eddie and Delilah, especially Eddie. Rome's story is extremely realistic, because as someone who has dealt with depression since I was a teen, it showed it wasn't just one thing. There can be a kick off or even a last bit that starts it or can make you go over the deep end. I get though with Rome it was a combination of: work, his home life, his family life and it was basically his small circle of friends that kept him wanting to maintain appearance. The one thing that both the writers are ignoring are those in Rome's life that have contributed to that depression and won't either admit they are sorry or want to know more of how they can correct that. Problem also with Rome's wife's life and reasoning for things also is cliche. She didn't want children because she doesn't see her life needing that fulfillment or legacy. It's coming from the fact she had such a HARD childhood and her relationship with her mother is so bad and she believe that will continue even if she doesn't admit it. It is also not far to Rome because he pictured that things would just go naturally after he got into his career, fell in love with someone hot, attractive and nice. He just wasn't prepared for all the "counter balance" he could possibly face. From his career not being all as cracked up as it should be to his wife just not being honest and foolishly believing she would change her mind. With Jon, Eddie, Delilah and Katherine, they should have just opened their BIG FAT MOUTHS about the small things instead of just stamping their feet and then going to the corner of their rooms.

I agree, and I said this and my parents said this back in the day: "Becky apparently lost all intelligence in one night." I get they were trying to write Becky off, but they seriously could have done it in a more believable way. I never believed how Darlene got where she got after all the CONSTANT talk about how bad she was in high school, her depression and the fact she believed high school was just crap, but yet she did want to make something of herself. Then pregnant with Harris happen and David became a complete idiot and where he is now is a long the lines of: "So, let me get this, your family was crap and you decided to be like them minus the abuse?" Yeah, I feel they destroyed both Becky, Mark, and David and later on Darlene all in the same of: "We have to give these characters an excuse they aren't in the picture, so let's make them... dumb!" It goes back to how I started hating Chuck's character especially in the revival. Yes, he didn't force Dan to do anything with the prison job. However, he knew that Dan was finally stable after years of crap. He knew that Rosanne was pregnant and was already stressed about The Lunch Box with Leo. He should have just said: "I'm trying to get the prison job, be good to send Junior to school and pay off the house." It was more like: "It be great for you too, Dan. Money." It also goes back to when Dan and Fred got Mark a job with the city too. Mark for the first time in years had a stable job and he was still pretty young. That should have been the focus to get Becky finished with school and getting a better apartment or small house. Instead it was: "yeah, let's go the trailer park and have a baby." When it should have been: "We will get the trailer, of your hair Dan and when Becky is done with school, we'll get a better place and... maybe you a grandchild." Nope, remember what the writers were trying to evoke: "Don't go trying to live above what you were raised."

Yes, my school and my siblings' schools were told to either keep them in their lockers or they faced detention. Of course go ahead about two years and they were barely 25 cents at a goodwill. Same happened with fidget spinners two years ago. You have these fads that come and go and yes, while most schools these days are dealing with kids who just CAN'T STAY OFF their phones for 5 seconds because you might miss someone using a filter on their math teacher everyone hates. However, it has been now seen that students currently in 3rd grade will be so use to mobile devices by the time they get to high school. There will be some NEW crazy fad that everyone will be doing and pissing off teachers. It's an un-ending loop just like not trying to piss off people who bring money into schools or businesses. As long as they don't kill someone, they can get away with anything.

In the 90s if you had at least an associates degree and passed the main teaching test you could teach a subject you specialized in. However, when 2005 rolled around, there were so many dirt bags that got into the system that were dating, and abusing their students. That they started coming out with "better tests" for teachers and then needing various required classes such as: assessment, Special Ed, classroom management and reading comprehension. Not crazy hard classes mind you, but it would take you a year to a year and a half and need to have a semester internship of teaching "real kids" to get your license. Then, somewhere, don't ask me how, especially in places like: New York, Illinois, California. Some helicopter parents got on a set of grade school teachers who didn't know "algebra". Started complaining to their congressman, then the No Child Left Behind crap started and all of a sudden student teachers were told to take this test and then this test and then this test and had to ace a trigonometry section in math to get a score to be told they had a high enough score to just get the state to say: "Ok, you can be a teacher now." Basically: "Harder test would make better teachers." It all backfired from 2010-2015 because while other people were passing these tests turned out to be crappy teachers and the ones who couldn't pass the tests were loved by their students and schools, but couldn't get their full license because they couldn't pass one math test. True story. Because we know if you end up a history teacher you should know how to teach a student if: xy-78 = x +8/4. Yeah, then just last year they finally did away with that and now just do what they did in the 90s for testing. As they say: "If it isn't broke, don't fix it." Back to the episode, yes, so many of my friends had Tamagotchis and before that, high school kids were sneaking their gameboys in. Now, it's smart phones and student addicted to Snapchat or trying to blue tooth in some stupid Jack Ass video. Times might change, but something "biggest toy ever" is going to always come along.

That's what always bothered me when Chuck suggested that Dan quit the city job to work on the prison. Dan for the first time in years was working a good job. They owned a business that was doing well do. In my mind, I think Chuck thought getting the building the prison job would mean he would have endless companies lining up out the door for him to get work. Even in the late 90s, when some individual contractors could get a big deal, they realized it was just temp and they had to keep looking for them. My uncle was one, but also made sure he had another job lined up as he had a family of 3. Chuck acted like since his son was almost out of the house and his wife worked too, a big job would be great and figured his friend would see the awesome score too. Of course, while Dan did get it, he sadly never learned from what happened with the bike shop and should have played it safe as he knew he was pretty good at that point and could probably retire no problem after Jerry was out of high school. Yeah, IF ONLY!
-
Especially after multiple takes and other actors that who are not use to that type of acting style.
-
I know, same goes with Dan later on. Don't want to have a job you can "guarantee" a decent pension and would have to kill someone to get fired, but want a quick payout on a new prison your friend brought up that will just support you for about three years until your son is out of high school and you still have a toddler at home, go for it! Have a great new job offered to you, no your mother told you not to live above your raising, so don't do it and go get knocked up by your off again, on again boyfriend. There is taking a chance and then there is not looking past the front door.

One is the Loneliest Number: Unpopular GG Opinions
readster replied to mstaken's topic in Gilmore Girls
No kidding, especially when Jess was constantly acting like he was better than anyone in Stars Hollow. He didn't have ANY friends! He was busy insulting people, trying to get Rory to be his girlfriend. Showing he had to be "such a rebel" screwing over his uncle he was CONSTANTLY going to bat for him. I actually remember when the episode first aired, I was watching it with my mother and she said: "Jess has friends? He hates everyone!" Yet, Rory believed him. -
Plus, they have talked how close they are: Elgin, Elburn, Geneva, all places that have TRAIN stations with Metra that many, many people who work in the city use to commute. I grew up in Sycamore, which if you remember way back when, Lanford was suppose to be close by and why the read the: "Sycamore News" regularly with Dan. Plus, it was also mentioned how close they were to Dekalb, which has... Northern Illinois University! Where they have people making better money working in the cafeterias than some diner where the owner is constantly drunk. Plus, Darlene used David's excuse. What she should have said was: "my ex stopped by and without him saying anything, made me realized I have x, y, and z to worry about, so the timing is bad." Plus, it was also the perfect time to talk about Jackie you know, HAD A KID! Add that to her pain how she screwed that up too and now look at her in her 60s and still having the same problems she had since she was in her early 30s. That's why its hard to hand wave and yes, intelligent people do man stupid decisions in the heat of the moment because it seemed like the right choice, but let's face it. If David wouldn't have stopped by or Emilio wouldn't have gotten caught by ICE she would have taken the kids and left.
