  1. Well, Olyphant does have a movie coming out so I can see why he was on again. Plus, I really think Conan has people on that he enjoys talking to.
  2. Heileman must be working for CBS now because he filled in as host at least one morning recently. I was surprised too.
  3. I'm a much bigger fan of The Magnificent Ambersons than I am of Citizen Kane. To me it's a much more compelling story.
  4. It is a good film. What I never really realized until last night is that Harlow was 21 when she made that movie. I was still such a little girl at 21 and she was so mature.
  5. I've actually been to Montevideo on a cruise and several of the cruise staff called it Monty video. I've always pronounced it Montay Vi Dayo. That was one thing he did that didn't bother me too much, unlike the jumping categories & staring at the others when he's beaten to the buzzer.
  6. I watched the Janis Joplin episode about a month ago, and while I appreciate her talent, I can imagine that it must have been a real chore to be around her. I can see why, maybe, people didn't enjoy her company.
  7. Darryl Hickman recently appeared at the TCM Film Festival and was interviewed by Leonard Maltin about Tea & Sympathy. I wasn't there but I did see a brief interview with Maltin on the opening night red carpet. Hickman was also part of a Private Screenings with Child Stars on TCM about 10 years ago with Jane Withers, Dick Moore & Margaret O'Brien. I think some of it may be on you tube if anyone is interested.
  8. I looked at the entry on IMDB for Jigsaw the other night and the guy who played the lead detective, Jack Warner, was a big TV star in the UK. I made a mistake about the guy who played the junior detective. His name was Ronald Lewis. He had a pretty good tv career over there as well as making some films but he committed suicide at age 53. Ben Mankiewicz talked about the lady who played the spinster who was involved with the killer, and it seems she was discovered by Laurence Olivier & brought to England to play Billie Dawn in Born Yesterday in the West End during the late 1950's. Her name was Yolanda Donlan and she married Val Guest who directed Jigsaw. She had a long career in England as well. It's great to make new discoveries like this.
  9. Anybody watch Jigsaw last night? I really do love those early 1960's British dramas and this was no exception. Fast paced & engaging. So glad we decided to see it, because I hadn't seen it before and I knew none of the actors, although I think I might have seen Ronald White in something before.
  10. I just watched the last episode this morning, and I just wanted to say what a great actor Branagh is. I only have watched the last 2 seasons of this show and only a couple of his films. I was crying at the end & my old cynical self is rarely moved anymore by acting. But he moved me.
  11. I think Secretary Clinton will have three former presidents, including Carter, and both Bushes have stated they aren't attending the convention, so you might as well say all the former Presidents will be supporting her over the likes of Donald Trump. Somehow I don't think she cares what Mika or Joe think of her. They aren't serious journalists nor are they compelling as entertainment. They don't have that great ratings that it's imperative she appears on the show. She will appear on things like the network late night shows and the daytime shows like Ellen, The View & The Talk. This show is small potatoes and inside baseball type of show, an audience she doesn't really need to court.
  12. The Von Bulow case was in the 80's and the Jeremy Irons movie came out in 1990, so it wasn't surprising to me that at least the returning champ & the new champ didn't know it, although I was surprised the other woman didn't know.
  13. I've been on a cruise that went along the southern coast of Australia, Tasmania & New Zealand so I knew that is where the platypus is. I said Tasmania at first but changed it to Australia because that's the only place where there was a side trip to see the little guys. I saw the Tasmanian devils, kangaroos, wallabies, wombats and various types of birds at the animal sanctuary I visited in Tasmania, but no platypus.
  14. Home of the Brave is scheduled for August 17 at 8:00 pm EDT.
  15. I realized that after I made my post. Sorry about that. ETA: I just saw your note about Home of the Brave. James Edwards is going to be part of Summer Under the Stars this August. I don't remember if this film was on the schedule. I'll check & get back to you.
  16. It was remade as a TV movie back in the 80's. If I'm remembering correctly, Robert Hays played Mr. Roberts, Kevin Bacon was Pulver, Howard Hessemann was Doc & Charles Durning played the captain. I cheated a little because I only remembered Hays being part of the cast so I had to look it up on imdb. I watched it but that was over 30 years ago so I don't remember much about it except it was more like a play that opened up like the movie is. ETA: I just read a little more about it on imdb & this was a live play on NBC in 1984.
  17. Honestly, I thought it went badly (the WHCD appearance.) I think I only laughed once or twice. But it's hard to follow POTUS. I laughed a lot at his jokes.
  18. Anybody see Timothy Olyphant last night. He always brings the funny on Conan. Conan seems to love having him on the show.
  19. Boo! Buzzy is alright but I was loving me some Andrew. At least he'll get to be in the next TofC.
  20. Ranch Dressing, or Rinse Cycle, or whatever that guy's name is, can try to turn this sow's ear to a silk purse but I think the RNC doesn't realize that quite a few people actually, you know, like the Clintons. These folks appear to be idiots.
  21. Thanks. I wrote that in a hurry and I'll fix it.
  22. I got Pittsburgh because I tried to think of long time NFL cities and that one is the only one that made sense. ETA: I corrected my spelling of the city. I'm a dope.
  23. In defense of Alex, I think some contestants do lose track of the score when they hit the DD's. It's his job to tell then where the score stands. And it's his job to try to make it more exciting by suggesting large bets. It's up to the contestants to keep their heads on straight. If they feel confident, then by all means they should go for it. But if they're cautious, they should do what Andrew did, which was bet nothing and live to fight another day.
  24. I love Andrew's little nose scrunching, if that's what it's called. I just want to put him in my pocket. He is such a sweetie. Alex talked about the one day winning record. Was it Roger Craig with about $75,000?
  25. She seems like the offspring of people who married & had a child later in life. I'm going with PaulaO's guess of fifty-ish. I was so proud of knowing Algoncquin the other day but didn't have a clue today. I never read fiction but when the name was revealed, I did a face palm.
