  1. I was a contestant in 1997, came in third and won $1000 gift certificate. So basically the amount is still the same as 25 years ago. However, second prize during my show was a trip to Fiji, so more than $2000.
  2. I didn’t find the Anita Hill/Britney Packnett Cunningham episode very compelling however both Cunningham & Rebecca Hall from the previous week both had ancestors from my neck of the woods (North Alabama & South Central Tennessee.) When they said who Hall’s parents were, I knew I’d heard of her father before. Turns out her mother was Peter Hall’s second of four wives, the first being Leslie Caron.
  3. I think she may have changed into a completely different outfit. She seemed to be wearing a green velvet dress with the matching hat in the tribute to Joni but when she came back at the end that dress looked like it was black and a different fabric.
  4. I thought it was the worst. I was expecting to be overcome with emotion but I guess when the show was 4 hours and edited to about 90 minutes a lot was left on the cutting room floor. I worshipped Joni & Bette and grew up with Motown and SNL. And what they showed was the best they could come up with?
  5. When I was on the show a hundred (25) years ago, there was a university professor among the contestants in my group. She was really outgoing and seemed to be pretty smart (she was also in my group during the contestant search in Atlanta so I knew of her before we were called for the show.) Anyway, she didn’t do very well during her taping. She just seemed to be more about making a good impression on the staff and Alex that she seemed like her mind wasn’t on the game. I was just a worker bee in an office and did much better than she did even though I didn’t win.
  6. Ok I’m old & got it all mixed up. Thanks. That’s really embarrassing 😳.
  7. But he didn’t replace Agnew. Nelson Rockefeller did but chose not to run with Nixon in 1972 so Ford replaced him on the ticket.
  8. I get Jeopardy! early here (3:30) and I just have to say that I’m ready for Ken to host permanently. He seemed so relaxed and made for the job. Johnny Gilbert didn’t introduce him as host, but “hosting”. It honestly seems as he’s too humble to call himself “the host” in deference to Alex. I just want him to get the job.
  9. I ran that Plays category and it broke my heart that none of them answered any of them.
  10. Roger Craig was initially on the show in 2010 so it was after the five & out rule was instituted. He was defeated on his 7th day.
  11. My brother worked one summer at that Land of Lincoln outdoor theater.
  12. I’m pretty sure Ben Mankiewicz was interested in the job & Alex did mention him a some point as a replacement. But he’s the main host at TCM, has a podcast & does feature stories for CBS Sunday Morning. He probably wasn’t willing to give up any of those jobs at the moment.
  13. I don’t really care that they picked Richards because he was one of the better substitutes. I thought of the women who hosted, Savannah Guthrie was the best but she’s not leaving NYC or a high profile Today show gig for this (at least I don’t think she would.) Robin Roberts was good too. I didn’t really think Mayim was very good and I had high hopes for her. The producers didn’t even give my guy, Ben Mankiewicz, a chance.
  14. I haven’t watched the show although I did see her as a guest on The Price is Right, but Lily Singh was someone I never heard of that got Carson Daly’s old late night spot. And she’s been there a while. I guess 1:30 am is a time for experimentation.
  15. I know I’m probably in the minority, but I’ve liked Savannah Guthrie more than I thought I would. She’s my favorite of the women who have hosted so far.
  16. I still see him every day and it’s difficult to remember that he’s no longer with us. Our local affiliate plays an old Jeopardy prior to the new episodes.
  17. I really don’t know too much about Derek Hough but he’s actually a very good dancer. I loved both of his numbers in tribute to DVD.
  18. I did surprisingly well in the Philosophy category. Like opera a couple of weeks ago. Except I did take Philosophy in college so I did remember from that. I get the game early here so I’ve already seen Mayim’s second try at this. She was much more relaxed and let’s say it was different.
  19. Yeah, this is why I’m so impressed by multi day winners. And Ken Jennings? His feat was amazing. I realize that he got time off during his run, but he still had to play 10 games over two days most of the time. How did he keep from getting mush brain?
  20. I ran the opera category. Who knew that I would know anything about opera?
  21. I got the Nellie Bly right only because Drunk History did a skit on their show about it.
  22. Yeah, he looks very similar and yes, I did get the company wrong. Shows how much I pay attention to the product being advertised.
  23. I get the show pretty early here so on today’s show he said he's been making a living doing commercials for 12 years. Isn’t he the guy who’s in those Voya commercials for financial planning?
  24. Yes I have seen a lot of calls for the producers to just give the job to Levar. I like him. He seems like a really nice, funny & thoughtful person. When Alex first died, he stated on Twitter that he was flattered but maybe a bit too old to start this job. Then, the tide turned and he was then all about getting it. I would really like someone a little younger to get the job. It’s nothing personal against Levar Burton.
  25. Does anyone remember the first Celebrity tournament? At the time Trivial Pursuit had been launched & was really popular. Ed Begley Jr talked about it on talk shows & how he was so good at the game. He was a contestant and ended the game in the hole, but since it was a celebrity game, they changed his total from minus to plus just so he could play FJ and win a little something for his charity.
