S01.E11: Monaco Under the Stars
Ancaster replied to AnimeMania's topic in Grosse Pointe Garden Society
Well, I bailed after 2 1/2 episodes and came here to find out who was murdered. My first thought was "who the hell is that", which made me happy that I hadn't wasted any more time. The reaction of people here to the victim's identity (and their problems with the series, which echo mine) made me sure I'd made the right decision for me. So thanks for the info and for taking one for the team, and sorry to everyone who feels disappointed/ripped off/etc. Believe me, been there, done that, and often for things that should have been put out of their misery long ago (Law and Order SVU anyone?), but which I clung onto for some reason. -
But it wasn't that he couldn't steer his ox, it was broken! Hmm, another blamer on anything/anybody but himself.

Yeah, when the guy snuck in that Massimo would be sitting next to him, my thought, if I were Massimo, would have been, "Damn, that means I can't give the tickets away or just enjoy a free trip to LA and not bother showing up for the premiere of a movie I couldn't care less about directed by some guy who thinks it's okay to name himself Tarzan." (I looked him up: he was originally simply Greg Davis, so he can't even blame his parents.)

Thanks @Yeah No for your kind and thoughtful reply. It's really good to hear that your husband has had a few days off, but I'm sorry to hear that he's being so stubborn about the situation, whatever his reasons. It's also great to hear that you are making self care a priority - keep it up, and hopefully one day soon we'll hear things are getting resolved. I hope you feel all the support coming through the ether from me and our fellow "chit chat" posters and lurkers.

Yes, it was mentioned that they had the choice to do it or not.

For some reason he's rubbed me the wrong way since the beginning. Maybe it's his Resting Smug Face?

I barely remember the previous episode! I am constantly amazed here by how much people remember from earlier series - contestants' names, placings, incidents, etc.

My MIL (also a borderline hoarder) threw away my husband's very valuable baseball card collection! Meanwhile for decades she kept a closetful of boxed mac and cheese "for emergencies" (they were marked 50% off).

It seems to me that you need to sit your husband down and tell him that if he doesn't talk to his boss honestly and completely about the situation, then you will. It's not as if you're strangers, and like you say, he cares for you both. Also, if he's as wealthy (and generous) as you suggest, he can sign his daughter up for a car service that she can use. If the daughter is constantly asking last minute, your husband needs to tell her that he's really sorry, but he's not available, goodbye. She's entitled and indulged and needs to be told "no" now and again. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but between your husband's extra driving and all the issues regarding the house and the hotel, you are under a lot of stress at the moment, which is very bad for your health, mental and physical. Even though you've talked to your husband about this, he may not truly realize the extent to which you're suffering. Because she likes having a chauffeur who drives a nice car.

Right. I like heights, but it's ludicrous that you gain an advantage in a cooking competition for doing something that has nothing to do with cooking and worse, plays on some people's very real phobias. I can't abide Massimo, but he did gain my respect by overcoming his fear of heights.

I hate the gimmick challenges (chaos, ice pick, etc) and this one was no different. Just let them cook - this is not Worst Cooks where their schtick was (is? I haven't watched in years) doing things that made the chefs look ridiculous.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
Ancaster replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
The Wegovy ad really irritates me. It's the one where they talk about someone losing over 46lbs. Why choose such a random number? Just say over 45lbs and I wouldn't be bothered at all. -
I'm sure it was Ana's fault that he parked on the grass. 😢

24 in 24: Last Chef Standing - General Discussion
Ancaster replied to schnauzergirl's topic in 24 in 24: Last Chef Standing
I don't think it would be impossible - have the judges walk to a nearby back room as the cook is beginning while the chefs are running around, have the chefs leave right before the judging (the stew room is right there), then bring them back for the results. I wish all cooking shows were blind, but this one particularly needs it because friends are cooking for friends, and the unknown chefs are at a huge disadvantage. I don't care how much the judges say they will be impartial, implicit bias is a thing. -
But then we wouldn't have had the hilarity of Josiah (?) guessing two Asian countries as being part of the European Council. River jousting looked great, and I loved the gamers' enthusiasm for jousting in general.

Spring Baking Championship - General Discussion
Ancaster replied to Aethera's topic in Spring Baking Championship
I'm sorry, the only bombe was Corey's and I wanted him to win just for that. The others were just icecream cakes. As Aristotle might have said, all bombes are cakes, but not all cakes are bombes. 🤣 Too bad Corey's sucked, though frankly I found this whole episode sucky. And as someone said above, this season is not engaging me. -

I really wish cooking shows wouldn't make alcohol a mandatory ingredient. A lot of people abstain from alcohol for a variety of reasons and not being able to taste their bake is a big disadvantage. (I don't see this as the same as going on, say, MasterChef as a vegetarian.) -
I think you mean pharsnips.

"Don't take Dovato if you're allergic to it." Well that sounds like pretty good advice. -

The IPhone commercial with a very unattractive young man flexing his muscles. -
Pink eyeshadow is not attractive.

"This is quite pleasurable to enjoy". I'm sorry, but what the hell does this mean?
