If it's heavy enough to kill someone with, it's not aluminium - probably cast iron. By the way, does your husband read your posts? 🤣

I think if it wasn't called chopped liver and people didn't know what they were actually eating, a lot more North Americans would like it because they would taste it and love it. North Americans do not do well with organ meats, I think because they just think "ick" without actually tasting. (I'm talking Americans with meat and potato backgrounds.) Give them a toast with pate de foie gras and a cornichon and most will love it!

I find the stuff in the jars repulsive, no matter how much horseradish I add (it's the texture rather than the taste I think - like you say, it's pretty bland). I make a gefilte fish loaf using good quality fish. People actually want to eat it rather than feeling obliged because of "Tradition!".

Why not take an interesting side dish? Change people's minds. (Personally I think a good side dish is often better than overcooked, dried out main.)

Well the third brother has obviously already taken the role of the third possibility. -

Yay, Ilan and the dick with the goggles went home as a team! -
I believe so - when I saw her dressed like that I realised that's what she was referring to on the beach when Sister Catherine said she wished their father could accept her becoming a nun, and her sister said something like she wished their father could accept her "lifestyle" too. (I saw the episode a while ago so don't remember the exact wording, sorry.) And yes, I'm not sure why they danced around it, though I suppose the sisters could have been uncomfortable actually saying "lesbian", even though Sister Catherine knew what was going on.

OMG, they listened to us - blind tasting! I wonder if it will continue? -

No, no, no, of course not, that's not what I meant at all, and I'm sorry if anyone got that impression. I just meant she seems to me to have undergone a major shift that is inconsistent with how the character was originally presented.

That doctor (surgeon) who is so into Lennox is really sleezy. Way too pushy and in her personal space. And wasn't she originally being portrayed as being on the spectrum? That's certainly changing rapidly.

I found her casual demeanor so soon after hearing baby had died and they'd have to do a D&E very weird. After trying so long and then basically shrugging and saying "oh well, never mind, I'm not going to try again" strange.

I think it probably shows just how brutal it was, and not worth it for such a relatively small reward given other shows'. And the prize money really hasn't gone up - $50,000 + $20,000 honeymoon (if I recall correctly) is now $75,000. -
Say What?: Commercials That Made Us Scratch Our Heads
Ancaster replied to Lola16's topic in Commercials
There's an ad for muesli that makes me look up every time I hear it (I tend to be online or reading when the commercials are on) because it's for some kind of magical facial cream, which seems like an odd use for muesli. Apparently the product is actually Musely. Okay then. Makes me look up and laugh every time and wonder whether the product designers were raised on Coco Puffs and possibly granola, and have never heard of muesli. -
I wish they would ban asking Joe Average if they could use their cell phone. I was very happy when they banned "Ferns" (so-called, I believe, after one team persuaded a local woman called Fern to spend the whole day leading them around).

Thanks. That was my understanding (though I thought he got more from Lana). I still wish he had used the unrisen flour-based dough as a flat bread, but that's easy to say from the comfort of my couch. He wasn't the first and certainly won't be last to make a bad decision. I suspect once he realised he'd left some of his flour behind he couldn't think rationally. @Norma Desmond I'd be a bit surprised if he beats the current LCK winner - they're formidable and I think he's too all over the place. I guess we'll see!

One thing I do know is that if I ever see Beatrice is on a TV show over the next ten years, I will not be watching. After that I might give her a second chance. People keep pointing out that she's only 18, but to me, half the time she behaves and comments like an 8-year-old. (I don't dispute that she's obviously very talented and surprisingly knowledgeable for her age, which is laudable, and I fully expect her to win.)

I couldn't bear to watch when Wylie Dufresne had that appalling, lank, greasy bob. Now I actually quite like him. I don't really understand the Henry flour situation. He said he bought some, just not enough, and then Lana (?) gave him a bunch more. Why did he then try to do something with rice that was obviously disastrous? Was he the one whose dough didn't rise properly? He would have been better off cooking small flatbreads with great flavour rather than what he did.

Isn't Mark a professional dancer? And did they go into it with zero money? Didn't they have part time/summer jobs during high school that they should have some savings from? Didn't they work during their university time? To me a $400,000 debt is irresponsible. Also there are programs that will pay a very significant % of educational debt (60% +) in return for 2 years work at underserved/understaffed locations.

Spring Baking Championship - General Discussion
Ancaster replied to Aethera's topic in Spring Baking Championship
I'm not particularly fond of macarons, but will eat a sweet one if offered. There was not a single one of these that I would eat. Who the hell puts zucchini, chocolate chips, cream cheese, almond, and Fresno chile together in anything, never mind a macaron. Ridiculous challenge, ridiculous twist. Is it just me, but did they totally spoil who's going home next week in the preview? -

Right, nothing says spring like a gloomy forest scene full of trolls and gnomes. /s And if anyone were to ask me what seasons I associate citrus with, I would say late autumn and winter. -
Sorry, I can't believe Nancy was stupid and careless enough to get herself pregnant before the wedding. Get yourself on the pill if you really can't wait. I'm not sure what the Joyce Highlander reference is, but we just saw a couple of episodes ago that sitting on the steps eating an iced lolly was not acceptable, never mind (a still married pastor) kissing. Maybe, just maybe, they could have got away with a quick peck on the cheek. I don't believe Cyril as we know him would do even that though.
-
Yes, the wife was not evil, she was an addict in the very early and vulnerable days of recovery. Although I'm sure my grandparents hoped their children would get married if that's what they wanted, the first priority on both sides was a good education for their children. My parents and their siblings (born in 1920s and 1930s England) all went to excellent universities and went on to have successful and meaningful careers. My grandmothers, born in the 1890s, both worked in respectful and respected jobs, even after they were married.
-
I don't mind the Cyril/Rosalind storyline, my problem is that I've never found the actor playing Cyril to be very good. I enjoyed him last week when he was playing with the kids at the "Commonwealth" games, but I generally find him very one note and wooden.

I don't know who Lisa Fernandez is, but he's certainly got the sour grapes look down pat. You could see the thought bubble - "How dare they not recognize a true Italian and automatically give him the win?"
