  1. It is a total crapshoot over who will be the most successful. I think with Glee it'll be even more of a crapshoot because it's not simply about acting on screen, we could see actor from Glee been successful in music, theatre, both Jane Lynch and Kevin McHale have been hosting gameshows, because of the nature of the show the glee cast may find themselves with more opportunities than other actors. I do wonder if the likes of Lea, Darren and Chord may find Glee a bit of an albatross, they've had the brunt of the shitty writing, and appear to be the focus of the train wreck that is season 6. I will laugh my ass off if one of the newbies becomes one of the most successful.
  2. I nearly went with 'Alone' for Matt. I do love Alex performance of 'Boogie Shoes', but it was overruled by my love for Wide Awake (best song from season 5 imo). I can't stand 'If I Were a Boy', not Alex performance, the song itself.
  3. Because we’ve been talking about the best singers, I thought I’d compile a list of my favourite performances from everyone (apparently I need a better social life, and a job!): Amber - I Will Always Love You Matt - Forever Young, Dream On Lea - Don't Rain On My Parade, Kevin - Lean On Me, Man in the Mirror Melissa - Blow Me One Last Kiss Alex - Wide Awake Jenna - True Colours, also Wide Awake and Shake It Out (Breakaway would be here if it was just Jenna) Chris - Being Alive Jacob - My Life, also Wide Awake Naya - Rumour Has It/Someone Like You, (close run thing with the first version of Valerie) Mark - Beth (close run thing with Sweet Caroline and Only The Good Die Young) Darren - Somewhere Only We Know Chord - Human Nature Blake - Everybody Hurts Heather - I Wanna Dance With Somebody (apart from this she only seemed to sing songs I hate!) Harry - Cool, also L-O-V-E Dianna - Never Can Say Goodbye Becca - Wide Awake Cory - Jessie’s Girl, Man in the Mirror Make of it what you will that it’s dominated by season 1 and 3 (2 songs each from seasons 2, 4, and 5). Some of these were really easy, some I actually had to look through their performances, others had too many I wanted to choose.
  4. I love that performance, I thought Naya in particular sounded amazing, and your right it did really enhance the storyline, you early got Santana's pain in that song. Although that is a bit strange as neither song relates even slightly to what Santana was going through. I'll disagree with you on one thing though, I hated the outfits and choreography. Actually I hated the outfits and choreography in general for The Troubletones.
  5. I like Melissa's voice but christ they gave her some dreary ballads to sing. I love her on Blow Me One Last Kiss (though I'm not keen on Alex on that song) she looked and sounded fantastic.
  6. Do you have a trained ear? Just wondering if that makes a difference. Btw, you missed Becca Tobin out of your rankings where would she go?
  7. I actually do occasionally, but they overused it. It's never mattered to me how technically good a singer is as long as they can hold a tune. It's about how they connect with the song and how they perform it. With Lea and Darren I'm not sure if it's because they have to perform so much more often than the rest and get so much dross, but I never feel a thing when they perform. They only exceptions to that were Lea doing 'Don't Rain on My Parade' and Darren doing 'Somewhere Only We Know'. I don't think I've ever had a emotional reaction when Chord performs, well except the occasional someone make him stop (Jumpin, Jumpin), though conversely his reactions when Amber sings 'I Will Always Love You' break my heart every time.
  8. There's 'Shake It Out' with both of them and Naya. That's another favourite of mine, I think they all sound lovely. It's one of the few times they don't have Amber 'wail on the last note' to quote Mercedes in The Power of Madonna.
  9. I could listen to Jenna sing the phonebook. True Colours is still my favourite song from the entire series. I'm also love her and Harry's duet of L-O-V-E.
  10. At this point his only competition appears to be Dianna Agron.
  11. Harry Shum being a complete badass in his new movie Revenge of The Green Dragons
  12. I don't get how they managed to screw it up so badly. To me Glee could've been like The Big Bang Theory, when they moved timeslot someone commented they could move to Siberia and people would still watch. It was like Glee tried to be too smart and at the same time not smart enough, they had a diverse group of characters but didn't use them, they had good storylines forgotten about for no reason, others repeated again, and again, and again. Honestly I think writing for Glee should bar you for life from ever writing for television again.
  13. I don't think anyone with a brain would touch it. Having said that, those in charge must suffer from serious levels of delusion if they think anything they've served up over the past three/four years is great TV. So they good be hoping for Glee: The New Class on some website.
  14. No Fox aren't, I think Fox can wait to be done with this show. But more than one TV show has been revived on the likes of Netflix.
  15. I don't think they would, but the spoilers read like a beginning not an ending. I'm just guessing at the motivation/delusion of those in charge. I think as much as this show preaches diversity, it feels it needs an able bodied straight white male to be the 'leader', that leaves Sam.
  16. Fox might not, but could they be hoping the likes of Netflix, Amazon or Hulu pick up the show after this season?
  17. Today in 'how much of a clusterfuck will season six be': Five major new characters to be cast: http://tvline.com/2014/08/06/glee-season-6-cast-new-characters-spencer-roderick/
  18. I could write a post as long as my earlier one on why Brittany annoys me. Repeatedly she would do things, like cheating on Artie, but have her actions excused, and as you say outing Santana, and the sex tape too. She was one of the worst female characters for me, she was like a hyper-sexualised child.
  19. Just read a couple of posts, looks quite interesting.
  20. A review of Janna Ushkowitz and Amber Riley in Hair http://www.broadwayworld.com/los-angeles/article/BWW-Reviews-All-Star-Cast-Brings-Lively-HAIR-to-the-Hollywood-Bowl-20140803#.U96d8lZ-9lL As a bit of a Tina stan this stood out to me:
  21. I didn't just look at race, I said the same thing about gender too. I wasn't watching looking for it, it just stood out like a sore thumb. Whatever the problem with the writing it doesn't change the fact that non-white characters almost always had a role to serve the storylines of white characters. Glee did challenge some stereotypes especially regarding sexuality and gender identity. Don't get me wrong it did it while making homophobic and transphobic jokes, but it still did it.
  22. I just completed a rematch of the first five seasons, and for those how have fond memories of the first couple of seasons I don’t recommend it. It’s not a show that has held up well over time. In fact only two things hold up well: the performers and the musical performances. The most disappointing thing for me was to realise how the show’s diversity was always window dressing; Glee was always about Rachel Berry and a bunch of white men (who the white men are changes, but it always white men), everyone else is just there to serve these characters, or make up the numbers. Non-white characters are there to serve the needs of the white characters and racist ‘jokes’ at their expense were suppose to be funny. Maybe I’m missing the funny in a teacher calling a pupil by a racial slur (which I can think of on at least three occasions). The racial stereotypes were awful and were never challenged, black men are trouble and untrustworthy, asians work really hard and must get perfect grades, I’m cringing just typing these. One thing Glee did do was have have several interracial relationships, but the one time it’s seen as a problem it’s the white guy who’s black girlfriend’s friends don’t approve (and not because he was had just been really racist). With the newbies they had the sweet white girl choose between the ‘bad’ mixed race boy and the ‘good’ white boy. The mixed race boy even cheats on her with a black girl. Ugh. Women fair no better. Every female character at some point (some more than once) has a storyline with no more motivation than ‘dem bitches be crazy’. I’d list them but this post would turn into a novel. And every single one of them has to be saved by a man at some point, again some on several occasions. I mean it take some effort to making the coming out of a hispanic lesbian all about a straight white man but this show managed it. The one thing I did see and I sort of agree with Ryan Murphy about is how special the choir room is, not McKinley, just the choir room. For me some of the best drama, comedy, and relationship moments come in the reactions to performances in the choir room. Drama wise the best example is Quinn while Puck is singing Beth, Sam while Mercedes sings ‘I Will Always Love you’ and both Tina and Mike during ‘In My Life’. There are some great comedic moments when someone is randomly in the huff during a performance. Also it’s hilarious watching the first couple of seasons and seeing Santana go postal when Puck sings to another girl. As I said the one thing that does stand the test of time are the musical performances. I have a playlist of about 300 of the performances (about half) and I could watch it for hours. Those performers are fantastic, all of them. My only criticism is some were overused, also there were duets and combination of performances I would’ve like to see that we never got, and some songs I’d like to have seen performed by different performers. I also realised I like every single member of New Directions, some more than others but I dislike no-one when they’re in New Directions (I hate everyone when they move to New York). But even people like Matt Rutherford, Lauren Ciizes, Sugar, Joe and Rory I liked. I also realised something which I think may be sacrilege for this show: I never liked Sue, I never love to hate her either. I just wanted her to go away. Actually by the end the only teacher I liked was Bieste. In short the legacy of this show will be some fantastic performers and some great music.
  23. I could see Fox putting this straight to on demand/iTunes/Amazon etc. The thing that makes me laugh about the spoilers, and just going by the actors who've been announced. The characters who have ended up back in Lima (Rachel, Kurt, Blaine) are the ones as an audience we've been told will make it out of Lima, they were never going to be happy there. Yet the ones who have made it out (Puck, Quinn, Tina, the newbies, even Mike) are the ones who were never getting out, and were never going to be the success the others were.
  24. I love Gibbs. A lot of that is love for Harmon dating from Chicago Hope, Stealing Home (one of my favourite movies ever) and The West Wing. Because the writers made Gibbs a functional mute he needs a great actor who can say thing without them actually being in the script and Harmon can do that.
