  1. Yeah, this definitely felt like the second episode. They were explaining everyone's roles, they were in danger of being grounded before their team ever took off (until they of course proved their brilliance, securing the rest of a season's worth of cases), and Paige was acting really awkward around everyone (whereas in the sick governor's kid episode they all seem much more familiar with each other and no one questioned her role). The episodes were probably flipped to give us more backstory on Gallo and Walter and show off the butterflies between Paige and Walter and Ralph. Yes, this show is silly and implausible, but I'm liking it. When I want something more to challenge my intelligence, I'll watch Sherlock. The actor playing Walter is easy on the eyes, I like the chemistry between everyone, and I'm a sucker for action movie scenarios. I'll ride this train as far as it goes.
  2. Yes, all of this. I loved Martha, despite her Doctor crush (he was cute, he time-traveled and took her places; shit, I can't blame her. She got through it in the end.) and reading all of that just reminded me how badass she was. I also really hated how the spooky element was just dropped for the young Doctor nighttime cuddle. CLEARLY that thing in the red blanket wasn't a fellow child -- if it was, that was one effed up kid! I was totally into the episode until Clara got to the barn. It felt creepy and wonderful and that is exactly what I liked about Doctor Who in the first place; crazy stuff like the Weeping Angels. You can't tell me everything at the end of the world, all the freaky noises and the KNOCKING was just a figment of all three of their imaginations because they were 'scared'. Ugh. It was two different storylines that really didn't intersect.
  3. I believe Claire is supposed to be about 27ish (an 'old maid' at the time, apparently) and Jamie is supposed to be 23-24. I thought the repetitive late night fundraisers were starting to get a bit tiresome, but I was still captivated by the show, and the hour passed so quickly. I'm looking forward to what's coming next, and at the same time, I am sad there's only a few episodes left this season! Claire's costumes really were gorgeous, despite being unbelievable. I've chosen to think that she inherited some poor, deceased MacKenzie lady's closet, a lady who just happened to be the same size as she is. That's why she has so many fancy coats and dresses.
  4. I loved Zack and Fikshun's routine. I put all my votes towards him. The rest are whatever to me.
  5. Thanks for clarifying, because I assumed they didn't actually do it either. They could've made it a bit clearer.
  6. Ha, I paid extra attention to Cat tonight because I read I guess your comment last week, and I've been skipping a lot of the between pieces and judge yapping. I thought she was delightful and I was thinking, what was that poster smoking, so nice to see you saw the shine tonight, too. :) Her hair did look fantastic! I'm always so jealous of it. I wish I had someone to stand there and give me those perfect tousled curls, because I cannot for the life of me get anywhere close on my own. I know lots of people hated Tara during audition week, but I found her to be fine. Is it because of her outside the show personality bleeding over? She felt a bit affected, but I thought her comments were fairly spot on (when I listened to them, anyway. I skipped the Ricky/Jessica fawning I assumed was happening). I'm glad she and then everyone else pointed out Valerie's weak-sauce intensity. There have definitely been guest judges I hated more.
  7. I really enjoyed tonight. Sad to see Emilio go, but when I realized he was up against Zach...sorry, see ya next year for an all-star spot, perhaps. Once I knew it was Bridget and Jacque, I also assumed Bridget was done. I loved the opening routine so much!! It's the first one I sat up and really watched with interest. The loud costumes were just a whatever to me, didn't help or harm. I liked seeing everyone's faces and knowing who was who, finally, and the moves felt fresh. Yay! My Faves (and who I voted for): Tanisha -- She was fabulous. I loved the opening, I loved the fast footwork, the lifts were great. Ryan was never one of my favorites, just a non-entity, but he was great with her, and they were just sizzling to me. Jacque -- I really enjoyed the ballet/contemporary, and there's just something about her I really enjoy watching. I kind of want to go back and rewatch this JUST to watch the shadows, because my eye did keep going to them and how graceful they seemed. Zach -- Normally I'm not into Sonja pieces, especially not overwrought emotional pieces on the show, but I did think this was touching without going overboard. I also skipped most of the judge responses, so I think that always helps. It was nice to see Amy again -- she was such a strong, steady partner for Zach and I really liked them together. Casey -- Zach is definitely my favorite guy, but I thoroughly enjoyed Casey tonight...maybe it was the Kathryn effect, or the great routine, but he did a great job, to me. I agree with whomever above said that he had to play it cool so he didn't have to try too hard to show emotion on his face, so maybe that made this great for him this one time. The Rest: Ricky -- It was a fun routine, and by no means did I dislike him, but I just know he'll get a crap ton of votes, so I'm not going to even bother. My eye was drawn more to Lauren in this piece though. Jessica -- I liked it, I liked her; I feel like she has a draw to the camera that sucks me into watching her. I just know she'll get a lot of votes too, and I personally am more drawn to the other girls. Rudy -- He's the only one I really don't care for, but it's all personality with him. His dancing is fine...it's not amazing to me and it's not horrible, like others I've hated in the past and wondered why they were still on the show. I didn't feel the chemistry between him and Jenna in the slightest. Both of them were staring in the camera more than each other. Blah. Valerie -- Out of the girls left, she's the weakest. I was waiting for her to get 'angry', thinking that it was coming maybe a third into the performance...then I realized that was it. She had no sizzle and it was so, so obvious. Eliminated: Emilio -- So sad to see him go. This routine was fantastic! I loved every second. I'm not a huge Jasmine-stan, but she did well. Bridget -- Bollywood Disco? Okay, then. I feel like everyone did put their big boy/girl pants on and hunkered down this week, choreographers included.
  8. For those that asked, these are the pairings Cat said: Rudy with Jenna Jacque with Chehon Zach with Amy Bridget with Brandon Ricky with Lauren Tanisha with Ryan Emilo with Jasmine Valerie with Ade Casey with Kathryn Jessica with Twitch
  9. Oh okay, thanks! I skipped through the judges intro and anything Nigel says, so I didn't hear any of that.
  10. Damn, we're losing 4 next week? I'm think definitely Emily and probably Teddy (though he was better than she was), Serge and Bridget. Didn't care too much about who went home tonight. I saw Marquette coming, and even though I really wanted to like him, he never really got me feeling much the last few weeks. Brooklyn was so dull. Bollywood - It was alright. They didn't wow me, but I didn't hate it. People keep saying Ricky is 'elvin' like he has any control over that and that it's a bad thing... Despite his 'small' stature, the boy can move. Yeah, maybe he's not as big and 'manly' as someone like Anthony from last season, but as we all know, dancing doesn't have to be one thing. Despite the producer push, I can believe he's got talent and he draws my eye. I liked him in this more than Valerie. Contemporary - As someone above said, it was well-danced, but I didn't really connect with it as much as the producers may have wanted me to. But I was appreciative that it wasn't the same ole, same ole Travis moves. It looks like he was trying to channel some Mia. I didn't get the big giant bed-frame prop, but there were some really nice moves in this. Foxtrot - There were some fun, sexy moves in it and I liked the song. I don't know much about foxtrot and I am guessing there weren't many 'foxtrot-y' moves in it. Not super memorable. Jessica really is a partner killer. I still like the way she dances, but she definitely doesn't completely connect with me. Maybe Casey will get something out of her. She's got to be better than the blahness he had in Brooklyn. Hip-Hop - I'm annoyed by Rudy because he's impressing me when I don't want him to. :P I thought Tanisha looked gorgeous and sexy and hit all the right notes (though, I'm sorry, she is a bit of a butterface when they show the close ups after the dance. She has a beautiful body but she needs some bangs on that forehead!). Rudy did pull out some Usher moves. One of the few I'm looking forward to re-watching. Contemporary - I liked it well enough; love the Jewel song but it felt short to me. I've enjoyed Carly for a while now (loved that last move). Serge just doesn't do it for me. I've never watched his dancing and found something unique that impressed me. I liked his sweater, once we saw it in the normal light. Salsa - I really wish someone else performed this, because the choreography and the music looked like it could've been a really fun combo. I need to rewatch and just watch Teddy, but all I could focus on was the trainwreck of Emily dancing with Teddy, and the absolute lackluster energy that was exhibited. It was just SO blah. I think they should've gotten way more criticism than they did. (And David Bowie, YES. That is totally what he looks like! I've been wondering what it was.) Jazz - I was really impressed with Zack! He's been one of my favorites since the African piece. He shined more than Jacque, but I still enjoyed her too. Out of all the girls, I think she and Tanisha are my favorites. There's just something about her personality when it comes out during her dancing that I enjoy. This was a fairly interesting piece, for a Sonya jazzy number. Hip-hop - I didn't even see Brooklyn. I was surprised she got so much praise when I thought Casey did way better. I think he and Carly (from last week's skeleton hip hop), they should get to do a hip hop number together. That would be fun to watch. The group routines were blah. It's not even worth remembering them. Is it sad this the week I finally realized we wouldn't be having any guest judges and that Misty would be a permanent judge? I don't mind, because I do like listening to her critiques because they always seem useful and nuanced. I just skip through Nigel and only listen to Mary for the dances where her expertise comes into play. It's working quite well for me so far; haven't gotten really frustrated with the judges in a while. Lucy Hale...honey, no.
  11. I was entertained by almost every dance, with the exception of Tyce's contemporary (I was not feeling the French love). I don't think all the dancers themselves were memorable, but I was happy to see things that weren't strictly contemporary flailing. I was super impressed with Carly in her skeleton hip hop. I couldn't even tell you what Serge did in it. Every time I looked over at him he seemed so thick and like a lump standing next to Carly who was moving every single part her body. (And yes, it did remind me of Pasha/Lauren's skeleton routine.) I was so glad the ladies smacked Nigel's ass down when he said no one would vote for them. I gave Carly more votes than anyone tonight. I want that dress Valerie was in, too! She looked so pretty, and I loved the moment when she dropped and did the spin. I liked Jessica and Stanley's piece, and agree with whoever said the lighting was not Stanley's favor. He practically blended in to the carpet in that bland outfit. I liked the funky moves. So glad Jourdan left. She seemed dead inside when she danced. I'm excited to see Jessica and Marquet together. Also really liked the first number by the new choreographers. I think Jacque is adorable and I really loved her and Zack this week and last. Also enjoyed the Broadway. Still not feeling Rudy's "personality" but he's doing better than I expected. All in all, I'm still not had over heels for any one dancer yet, but I was thoroughly entertained tonight.
  12. Ha, that was pretty funny and creative! He seems like he has a fun personality. Thanks for posting! I did really love his final solo of the callbacks. It was different, which is what I'm looking for after seeing so many seasons - give me something interesting in your routine.
  13. Thanks, @April Marie for posting all the names with the audition clips - that is really helping me figure out who is who!
  14. Yeah, her dancing was acceptable but I didn't think she was such a special snowflake that she needed to be in the top 20. What also kept making me stop and double-take was that she looks so much like the actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley (Brad Paisley's wife, of the Father of the Bride movies) and so when I saw her I thought 'actress'. And she was definitely pulling out some long, forlorn faces and hopeful upwards glances in keeping with her 'story'. I am also sad about Yaya. Boo, Nigel. I didn't remember Emilio last season (he probably wasn't shown much) but he seemed really good and was super adorable so...not gonna lie, I'm kinda glad he's in just for the eye candy. I was also happy Marquet and Ricky and the non-annoying Miami friend was put through. Most of the girls, I can't remember any names that jump out at me. I feel like some that they did focus on got cut, and half the girls look so similar I can't really get a feel for them until the actual live show episodes. It's always easier for me to recall them by their audition clothes if they flash back to those moments. *Edited to add* Over in the spoiler thread someone posted the audition clips of almost every top 20, and I realized I remember way more of everyone than I thought. I do like a lot of the girls! I'm pretty excited for next week, seeing everyone in their own styles. As far as Jessica...I don't know. She definitely has some talent, her attitude hasn't bugged me yet, so I'm not gonna say she's just a pretty face. I don't want to hate Jessica until I see how she does in the show, because right now I feel like she hasn't done much herself to warrant a lot of backlash. I'll put it all on the actual problem: Nigel. We the audience may dislike her because in our eyes she's taking a spot from a more 'deserving' person, but obviously she is going to think she's got the talent and the chops. I enjoyed her dance-for-your-life solo; yes, there was a bit much of the hair whipping, but it didn't feel as much like a sexy stripper dance to me as her audition, and sometimes it's nice to see a sexy routine. Lauren Froderman came off a bit immature at first, as well, but she pulled most of her dances off with maturity. I'm excited for all the ballroom and I'm hoping this means the choreographers will pull out some nice routines (that actually get performed well!) this season.
  15. I agree, bravelittletoaster, I loved Piper and her brother playing the hiding game. And Neri, I totally forgot about her. That little part was hilarious.
  16. @elsbad Thank you! Man, he's got some legs! He looks so graceful. That was some interesting outfit - was that supposed to be Swamp Thing arms? haha I understand, he wasn't supposed to have much to do in that dance, but yes, what he did do lacked any grace or form and fluidity. I mean, just check out the video above and compare. Granted, maybe the guy isn't a company-level ballet dancer, but he didn't really deserve the praise he received. Regardless, you are probably correct - Nigel would love to tear the two of them apart and put some sad music to it, wouldn't he?
  17. Just some dancer who finished up the choreography round and was waiting for his fate. His partner was trying to hold him up then he runs off to the side of the stage and pukes (we see it in a long shot so not TOO detailed but gross enough). All the judges just looked grossed out but that was the end of it really. He comes out of the doors a minute later and says he didn't make it and he puked but oh well.
  18. I know, when she popped up and was sooo pretty (and knew it), I was like, oh man, she's gonna be bad. But, despite the hair flipping and the sexy moves, I actually did like her lightness in her dancing and the way her movements flowed together. So I'm hoping she has more up her sleeve (and a hair-tie to pull back that hair) because I think she'd be enjoyable to watch. Barring any major other-styles fails, I bet she'll go pretty far, as she's just what Nigel salivates over. And yes! I loved Lauren in her season, though I think I loved her from her audition right away. She's great at connecting to the audience. You guys need to watch the episodes on DVR, because as soon as they hit the commercial break previews I fast-forwarded and consequently saw none of the build-up to the vomiting. Also saved me from the one sob story of the night (the body image girl). I am SO glad we didn't see any dancing daddies or more than the one sob story. I agree with everyone saying this was a great episode compared to last week. Fabrice was gorgeous (I wish we could've seen HIM dance), and I loved Christina Applegate. I would be fine with those two and Jesse Tyler-Ferguson being the three rotating judges for the rest of the competition. Maybe a little Wayne Brady, but I think he's only fun at the auditions when he can interact more with the dancers. The only one I severely side-eyeing the judges for letting through was the ballet guy who was part of the lovey-dovey couple. He was NOT good and barely did any dancing standing here being the ballerina's dancing pole. I'm hoping he'll just crash and burn in Not!Vegas.
  19. I totally agree. The only way I can justify it is that it likely wasn't anyone's decision who really 'cares' about the dancing part of the show, you know? It was probably some corporate exec saying, we need the show to be more relevant (whatever that means) and get some bigger ratings otherwise we're gonna cancel it, so get someone big, like Bieber, to come on and get some guaranteed twee viewers to watch. It's pandering and absolutely stupid, and I wish they had found someone better with more dance skills and integrity, but I can't figure out who fit that mold that would be on par with the star power Bieber has. It's probably providing some reciprocity to raise Bieber's reputation, too, as I realized after seeing him last night that he's been pretty absent from the headlines lately after all that crap that went down a few months back (at least, I assume so, as someone who does not seek out info on Bieber intentionally but ends up hearing about it when it's on every news network).
  20. I chalk this up to Nigel having the memory of an old man and also just wanting to create punchy 'sound bites' for the show. "Best EVARRRR!! OMG!" like that is going to make me immediately stop what I'm doing to watch and agree brainlessly. I feel like most things Nigel says are so hyperbolic and ridiculous. I've made it a game with myself now to see if I can guess when they're going to pull that phrase out before they say it.
  21. Yeah, I was sympathetic with Caleb about his dad, but when he clearly couldn't partner in choreo...his second audition and then making it through were total pity votes. There's just something about him that I'm not thrilled about. He needs to be cut before Top 20. I'm not sure if you meant was that the actual voicemail from his dad, but it wasn't - it's just the beginning of the Jason Mraz song. Though I totally rolled my eyes that of course he picked that song with a VM in it. Thanks for the recap on the Megan chick. Once Cat said, OMG that is so crazy, and she went, I know, I know, and kind of paused, I fast-forwarded through the rest of the nonsense and missed all of that weirdness. I was also a little perturbed at her 'on her own since 12', but since she mentioned she stayed with 10-12 people, I am guessing she was in the foster system and bounced around a lot...I can understand that must feel like she was by herself because she's the only one who would've had her best interests at heart. Hopefully, if she gets in Top 20, she'll be more exciting than her sob-story and we'll chalk it up to a lame edit. I was cracking up when everyone was being so cautious to say 'come get your ticket! full stop rather than 'come get your ticket to Vegas!!!!!' and then some kid said, Yay, I'm going to Vegas! And they're like, no no...you're not. Then Wayne Brady got up and even said, Vegas! and I laughed. Ticket to Los Angeles doesn't flow off the tongue quite the same, and I doubt they can/want to use 'ticket to Hollywood'. I wonder why they moved it. Budget reasons? Contemporary guy - yeah, he was good! And UGH Bieber. I realized I haven't heard much from him lately, which has been FINE. He and his choreographer looked utterly thrilled to be there... Me too. Especially when they showed all her 11 brothers and sisters looking roughly the same age as her. She said, my mom is a homemaker, and my husband was like, WHICH Mom? Really, because of this show, all I picture Utah to be is a beautiful landscape dotted with pretty blonde Mormon girls twirling around in unison. I kinda liked her though. It wasn't perfect, but she had some spunk. Yeah, his music was super annoying (was it just 'sounds a computer make'?) but I really liked him. Nigel barely got ten minutes in before he started with the dirty comments, eh? I think once we get through auditions, I'm just going to fast forward through his comments as a default. I liked the ballroom guy who previously danced with Witney, thought the Miami guy was alright, but I did not enjoy the 'strong man' guy with the scar. It looked sloppy to me and he was annoying. I want to see more ballroom and more HIP HOP. Did we really see anyone hip hop worthy who made it?
  22. Life would go so much easier for everyone if they just listened to Jack. I'm glad we're going to finally get to the parts where they believe him and he's not constantly trying to out run them, but rather just looking for the baddies. Speaking of, I hope the daughter starts to reevaluate her life after her mom lets her pinkie get chopped off! Also, will someone PLEASE get her an eyebrow pencil?? Every time they show her big expanse of forehead to eyeballs with no brow definition I get distracted. It's not a good look! Loved Kate shoving the Marines back when they tried to get too close to Jack. MY prisoner! Uh oh, Chief of Staff douche, your wife is already totally willing to discount you and your opinions now that Jack is in the picture. Boo hoo. I'm still waiting to see if he's more sinister in motive than just a jealous husband or if his pettiness is what will bring about a massive f-up because he keeps blocking Jack's path. This episode felt like it went at a better, faster pace than the last, even with Jack sitting at a computer screen for most of it.
  23. I didn't hate it. I was actually pretty satisfied with where everyone left off, though I would like the album launch drama to be over and done with. I'd much rather see this cliffhanger between Deacon and Rayna than the silly car crash. The look that Deacon and Maddie shared at the engagement was too cute, you knew they were both thinking, "that should be Deacon up there". Glad to see Jeff get screwed. I can't believe Gunnar and stupid Zoey spilled the beans. Couldn't they have just said, talk to Juliette about it, instead of blabbing it themselves? Loved Rayna and Juliette's scene together. Glad she was drunk and not pregnant like some speculated. How sad and depressing was she in that scene with Avery? Hopefully she goes and gets some professional help. I hope he walks out the door but stops and turns around. I know she doesn't "deserve" anything from him, but he obviously loves/loved her and she looks one glass of wine away from downing a bottle of prescription drugs. Maybe just sit with her till she falls asleep, Avery? Glad that Will finally told someone, though Layla does NOT look impressed or sympathetic. I'm just happy this storyline will move forward finally. Pretty creepy having the secret video cameras in their bedroom. This isn't Real World; it's not like they consented to THAT. Sidenote, I'm so happy they put that song he sang by himself in his room, "is that who I am", on the new season CD. I really liked it and kept wondering if there was a full version. Glad there was minimal Teddy. He needs no more storylines other than being a convenient babysitter to the girls next season.
  24. That was so freaking stupid. The surprise marriage to the village idiot, the lame delay after delay so he won't sign till the very end, then a freaking kidnapping and fake death complete with a close up of the weepy almost-bride? Ugh. That was seriously insulting my intelligence and making a mockery out of what used to be a fun and smart show. I fast forwarded through most of that hoping we'd still see a nice, emotional wedding, but one we hit the ten minute mark and still had to sign the papers I knew it wasn't happening. Glad I didn't waste the full 42 minutes. That was seriously disappointing and not at all shocking.
  25. I finally watched that recently and I can totally see what you mean; Hudson does bear some resemblance to Armitage. I think Hudson as a person is attractive (and I may like him a little more just because he's Goldie Hawn's son; I love her!), but Jeff the character is just icky. Armitage's character in N&S at least redeemed himself a bit.
