  1. Good point, plus the fact that most of the time we see them they are at work so I'm fine with people not making out while they're at an active scene. I also assumed that due to COVID protocols any "couples" on the show were avoiding active kissing or being all up in each other's faces. 9-1-1 was one of the few shows who were doing COVID storylines last season that actually had their characters wearing masks more than not in actual scenes so they may just be really strict about distancing on their set, especially with veteran actors like Angela Bassett around to probably put her foot down.
  2. I loved this show so much! The ladies were fabulous; they had great comedic timing and really tugged at the heartstrings during those emotional moments. I am always a sucker for found family / friendships and women supporting women and music in a show. Like some of you have said above, I love that it gave these Muslim women a space to express themselves and didn't pander or go overboard trying to be "woke" -- it was honest and let the characters and their world speak for themselves. I really hope we see a season 2 because there's so much more to the characters to explore.
  3. That was quite the rollercoaster! I really enjoyed this little show, and I hope it comes back. I loved Max's inability to stop singing when he was so happy Zoey was kissing him. Aaaand then I cried for the rest of the episode. American Pie isn't one of my favorite songs, but I could see why they chose to use it. I read a good interview with the creator and it seems like they haven't officially renewed it yet. The article does answer some questions we have about Lauren Graham's role and why it may be reduced and why Max/Zoey kissed this episode (essentially, to make it fair because Simon got some lip action in other episodes). Sounds like the creator is ALL in on making this love triangle play out for quite a while, which is...annoying, to say the least.
  4. This show is so cute! I don't feel like it will last a super long time, but I'm enjoying every actor and all the singing (maybe not MS's songs, which are a combination of songs I'm not interested in and her tuneless singing, but I appreciate that she's trying) and the sweet/sincere plots. I'm glad Joan didn't get angry at Zoey when Charlie left lunch after Joan pushed her into speaking up (I feel like some shows would definitely turn it that way) and that they ended up supporting each other in the workplace. I do feel a little weird that the show (by way of the characters) are trying to convince me that Simon is a viable love interest option. Like...he has a fiance. Yeah he and Zoey have had a connection, but I don't feel I've seen him giving her more-than-friendly vibes. Sure, be friends, but should I actively be wanting Zoey to break up an almost-marriage? Do I want her to be with someone who would emotionally cheat on his fiance and jump right into another relationship right away? Meh. Max is at least only casually dating someone and has already expressed interest in her (via song). I would guess he's the ultimate ending point for Zoey (if she needs to be with anyone by the time the show is over) but I'd rather Simon be "unavailable" in another way if we're going to continue some sort of love triangle.
  5. There were early establishing shots showing the car with the women in it was behind the truck. Some random car from a side street pulled out in front of the semi and caused him to slam on his brakes to avoid hitting it, and because our characters were always behind him, when she was distracted by the phone she rear-ended the truck. I also thought at first they were the car pulling out, too; it was a bit confusing.
  6. They are taking 20 to whittle it down to 10 in one episode, just like last year. So I'm imagining the Academy will be 2 weeks, in that one week will be getting to the top 20, next week top 10, then the live episodes. This was definitely the most boring of the audition episodes.
  7. Aaah, THAT'S where I've seen Evan before! I love Kyle Hanagami's choreography/channel. They should do a night where they highlight YouTube choreographers, give some lesser-known people a break (yes, I know Kyle isn't a no-name since he choreographs for people like J-Lo, but I'm sure there's plenty others).
  8. They made it sound like he'd be there for all the auditions. I hope they keep him for the live shows too, though, because he's the best. Vanessa doesn't bother me as much as other people here, but she's definitely a Paula Abdul "cheerleader" sort, and I prefer Twitch's enthusiasm AND real eye for dance movement over her any day. I didn't see anyone who wowed me here. I thought the first girl was very cool and different but I don't know how that will translate long term. I can't remember if last year they talked about the all-star mentors this early, so if they did and it's clearly absent this year, then I am very excited. Just get back to the old format of the regular top 20! Agree about the floor/background making it a bit difficult to see people. I like the new logo in the back but it was competing on the shiny floor with the dancers themselves.
  9. I wasn't disagreeing with you; I don't think you need to relate to these characters to watch their story. But I don't think it's pointless to want to relate to them, or for that sometimes to be part of the reason why you don't feel connected/interested in the story. And when I was referring to "Putting aside their first world privileges and problems" I was talking about their fancy cars and houses and feeling inadequate because someone is looked down upon for having a 'silly' twenty hour a week job, etc. The things that people are using to dismiss them as silly rich housewives.
  10. I just read the book a few weeks ago and I really enjoyed it, so I'm looking forward to this mini-series. I was considering waiting, but I think knowing the book gives some of the lines and little looks and scenes a bit more meaning, knowing what's coming. It does feel a bit different since it's not in Australia and everyone has entered this suuuper rich stratosphere, but I think it'll be worthy of watching in its own right. Reese was great as Madeline and so was Laura as Renata. The child actors were particularly spunky, and I look forward to seeing more of them. I mostly agree. There are times when the subject matter / characters so turn me off that I don't want to relate, but I don't feel that way about this. Putting aside their first world privileges and problems, I would think many people can relate to how Madeline is feeling about her children (I don't even have children but I could totally sympathize with her long-standing grudge against her ex-husband and how she felt she was losing her daughter to the "fun" parents), how Celeste is obviously in a complicated relationship, and how Jane seems completely lost within her own life. Even how Renata feels attacked about being a working mom. Yeah, we all can't complain about these problems while we stare out at the ocean from our expensive backyards, but the feelings are real and relatable. No, in the book they don't reveal the murderer / victim until the final few chapters, so I imagine they will be going for the same suspense here. It was quite maddening, in a good way. Probably a wise choice! I'm can be an uncontrollable spoiler (for myself only) sometimes, and a book lover first and foremost, so I always feel the urge to read the book and then watch with a critical eye. But sometimes you just need to enjoy the work for what it is! I can see that. I think the book has an edge, where it does many times, in that you are able to see into the women's' heads and really understand their motivations from the get-go, and that's usually impossible to accomplish right away on screen. Like I began to like Madeline more when you learn more about her divorce, for example, and you begin to understand her particular reactions, which I'm sure they will bring up in future episodes. But with TV I feel people are sometimes less inclined to give the characters the same chances they would while reading a book.
  11. I do enjoy how this show refuses to completely demonize its antagonists. I wish that they would've let Sister Ursula stick around for a little while longer now that she isn't going to be so rigid, but it was nice to see Sister Julienne back in her role as showrunner of the house. I knew Sister Monica Joan had found the TV and was going off to watch her show, but the way she did it peering through the window was just adorable. Similarly, I knew that the Chinese MIL was going to have a heartbreaking story about her daughter dying from the cold, but still having to hear her go through it made me, once again, cry buckets, especially with the DIL sharing in her misery. They way they kept showing a closeup of the...gas heater? Whatever it was? Made me think there was going to be another explosion or something. Poor Shelagh. They've kept a lot of people alive without lasting heartbreak in the last few episodes, so I feel like it's all leading up to her losing her pregnancy, though that's such a wretched thing to do to these characters (who, admittedly, are almost saint level of perfect, but I don't care, I love the entire Turner family and want them happy). It's so nice to get Trixie's frankness and cheeriness back; I didn't realize I'd miss her as much as I did. I'm guessing they're going to pull that nurse from the bar in as a new hire since we're dropping people left and right.
  12. Nah, I've got enough bratty kids on my TV. Tim continuing to be a delightful teenager is a nice reminder that all teenagers aren't crappy. My cousin made it through her teen years being very sweet to her parents and supportive by helping with her five younger siblings. She had her moments, I'm sure, but 95% of the time she was great at home. I can't get through an episode of this show without crying. Patsy and her father, Phyllis reciting the poem to Delia to tell her she knows and she's cool with it (who knew that Phyllis would become my favorite character on this show!?), and Reeds and their daughter (I'm glad there was no discrimination from the other moms in the group. I was worried they were going to go there).
  13. Yes, the actor who plays Kenneth has such a great, deep voice! They definitely need to tap him for some voice acting in the future. That part where he was narrating everything as the Magical Negro was spot on.
  14. This has become one of my favorite new shows, and this episode was particularly hilarious. When Maya began dancing for the horse, I could not. stop. laughing. Kenneth and JJ's friendship is also just one of my favorite things, how they were bonding over being cliches. And when the Dad walked up because Maya was talking about how he gave up graduate school to help his disabled son, and then the kids told her to stop spinning fantasies and he just walked away. I wouldn't have thought I'd love this show as much as I do when it started, but everyone has managed to win me over.
  15. I really enjoyed this, despite it being a quiet hour of television. The difference in the vibe was obvious, but much welcomed. I think that there is definitely going to be a transition episode or two where the new writers have to write their characters out of the messes they were in before, bring them back a more level emotional/mental field. At least, that's what I hope they are planning on doing with people like Maddie and Juliette. In those forty-two minutes, I think that was the most Deacon and Rayna have said to each other than they did all of last season. I'd love to see Gunnar and Scarlett have a storyline that doesn't involve them breaking up and making each other jealous constantly; let's have them be happy and working towards making their music work. Let's get Avery more job recognition and songs that aren't sad little ditties about Juliette. After that hour, I feel cautiously optimistic that all of these things will eventually come true and unfold in a much calmer pace than we're used to. And more good music! I do love that about the show, and if the slower pace means giving more time to the songs like they used to in the first season, then I'm all for it.
  16. I can't help but be charmed every time Stamos and the little girl who plays Edie are on screen together. The ending was just too cute. This show may have its flaws, but it's been one of my favorites of this past fall season. I pretty much enjoy all the characters and I like all the actors.
  17. Rayna should have turned to this 'sign the girls up to my own label' idea way back when we all first thought of it, because of COURSE now Maddie is too 'mature' to continue on in their adorable duo. Connie's hair did look even more fabulous than usual. I was seriously getting distracted as I was watching. I enjoyed all of the songs this episode. I always enjoy the show more when we get a bunch of new material - more time spent on songs and less on boring Caleb and boring Brand Lady. And way less time on Maddie being horrible beeyotch to her little sister.
  18. I went back to the first episode to see the exchanges you guys are talking about, because I couldn't recall it. If everyone is talking about when their water bikes collided in the water, then as soon as it happens, the Texas boys were talking to each other about how the bike must be broken, and then the only thing Justin says is, "Dude, I'd tow you, but you guys are beefcakes." as they pull away from the Texas team, smiling and laughing. The cousins who got eliminated came by and asked what was wrong and the Texas boys just quickly reply that their rudder is broken before focusing on steering. So I can see both sides: Justin is a bit socially dense and makes inappropriate comments, and combining this with his excitement at surpassing them in their water race, this probably made him seem like he was gloating and pompous to the Texas team as he went by them after choosing to make a snarky comment on their unfortunate predicament. That said, I currently prefer the Texas team over Justin, because his whining in the first episode and his need to comment on everything are things that just personally annoy me in real life; however, the fact that they are already plotting to 'turn everyone against Justin' made me roll my eyes and wish they'd cool it, since I don't want to listen to much more of that either. I'm currently liking the Cheerleaders, the News Anchors, the Dancers, and the Track Stars. The rest of them haven't made much of an impression yet.
  19. Bwahaha! I had the same thought. Whenever the pretty girls would dance, the camera would, without fail, cut to a close-up of Jason's ogling face, and occasionally he looked like that cartoon wolf with his tongue hanging out. I guess we're trading to his lecherous looks from Nigel's, which...I can't really say is an improvement, overall--none of the dancers should be pieces of meat--but at the same time I'd rather not stare at Nigel any longer than I have to, especially with the creepy denture-smile, so...
  20. This show is ridiculous and soapy, but I just watched all 3 of the 'new' episodes in a row, so what can I really say? I'm enjoying it, for the most part. I love Shiri Appleby, and even when her character is horrible, I feel for her. That stuff with her mom in the last episode, sheesh! Freddie Stroma as Adam is easy on the eyes too, so I won't complain about his frequent shirtless scenes. I love a twisted romance, so I'm rooting for them to get together. They're both kind of shitty people, so if they can help each other with one another's baggage...sure, I'll go with it for now. Quite disturbing, Adam doing the new partner's wife while the other guys watch, but I'd expect you would see that and even more twisted behind the scenes in Hollywood... I wonder if there will be any other fallout from that other than Rachel being squicked out and slightly jealous about it. Downsides: I can't bring myself to care about her ex, the camera operator, and their little moments together aren't that exciting. I'm not going to respect him if he cheats on his makeup artist fiancee with Rachel, so the whole thing is dead in the water to me. Move on, Rachel. I also fast forward through the scenes with Chet and Quinn, which feels like a wise move. They're okay when dealing with other people, but I can't get into their craptastic relationship. He's quite disgusting.
  21. Lol, whoops, shows you how much I was paying attention by the end of my time watching AI then!
  22. Yes, when she busted out that flat-handed clapping I started cracking up so hard. I haven't watched AI since Katherine McPhee won, so it's been years since I've watched her 'judge'. She did seem fairly decent in this episode. During the live shows last year I ended up fast forwarding through almost all the judges' comments, except when it was Jesse Fyler Ferguson, so at this point the judges don't matter much to me either way.
  23. I'm enjoying this show a lot! I'm also glad Kelsey owned up to her mistake and made it right with everyone. The sex scene was hot! I still wonder how they're going to sustain the relationships between everyone and Liza for so long and not have them end up completing hating her when the truth comes out. But I suppose if we crawl through the days (this episodes was, what, only comprised of two days after last week's?) then one full season would end up being not a very long time in Liza's world.
  24. The joust part also had me rolling. It brought to mind that First Knight movie with Heath Ledger, which I loved. And it also looked so much like the medieval faire setup in my town that it was making me giggle. I also love Men in Tights, so I am totally sold on this too. And they have Lassie as King Richard! He is probably my favorite so far. It's completely ridiculous, but they know it, and the music is catchy and the lyrics are funny. I forgot it's only going to be a few weeks, but that's perfect! I thought it was great fun in a sea of lawyer/doctor/cop shows with dreary lighting and murder on the brain (not that I don't love some of THOSE shows, but really, sometimes you just want to laugh).
  25. I thought it was a fun episode! I liked how the Cyclists and the Dentists were poking fun at each other but never really got too nasty about it, and when push came to shove, they teamed up and split up without any whining or complaining or drama. The go-kart racing thing looked like so much fun and damn, was it beautiful there! I'm glad the scientists had a stroke of luck and had to do the opera thing instead, because it probably saved their butts from having to be non-elim saved and staring down a speed bump next episode. The opera detour definitely looked way easier. Even if the Wrestlers are 'playing dumb' I don't think it's really too much of a stretch for them. Every time they mess up it's because they panic and don't review the details. It seemed like we were supposed to infer they would've been done with the opera thing earlier if they had only written the character name on the chart, and they could've easily spotted that had Brooke not just flipped her shit as soon as they were told the chart was incomplete. I can't stand watching racers like that. Even still, I'm just glad there's no one team I really HATE. The Wrestlers are stupid but they can be mildly entertaining. I think I'm rooting for the Cyclists, but honestly I would be fine with any team winning (Well, maybe not the Wrestlers. They would have to get so much dumb luck to win I would be a little disgusted. But it's not Flo-winning levels of disgust.).
