I tried watching this show for the first time and quit after 25 or so minutes. If it picks up I may try again. The bitterness between Holmes and Watson was really turning me off; I was expecting some kind of relationship or partnership even if he was coming back from leaving everyone, there was no positive feeling at all. Is there normally some humor in this show? The commercials made it look that way but I saw almost none (except for "you can take the helmet off"). I had a suspicious vibe over Watson's new friend also.

I liked the way they handled the mystery, I don't mind a Halloween tie in as long as it doesn't stretch credibility which this didn't IMO. I didn't see that it would turn out to be the son, and why, until they did, so it kept my interest. I don't feel the NO background is being overly pushed except to the extent that I have trouble believing that agents who see this much crime and murder are so happy go lucky as soon as the case is solved. Still, I like the actors and characters which is keeping it going for me.
-
I noticed that censoring too, but offhand I can't think of another one when watching L & O: CI on Ion, however I do think they seem to run more commercials than USA does when they show it so are possibly editing the show more in general.
-
Or On Demand, if you have it. I thought of using the CBS app for Ipad, but they demand your name and date of birth, bonehead move by CBS when hackers are everywhere.
-
I was away from my computer last week, but have to add I really liked this also for all the reasons above. Especially enjoyed McGee turning into "McGibbs" ha ha. (and the "Rule 70?" from Gibbs). As said, everyone had an important part to play. I guess they didn't show Gibbs diffusing the bomb? But they didn't show him *not* doing it, if you know what I mean, so it's not like the show "cheated." I do miss seeing Palmer. then again we haven't seen much of Vance lately either except for the NCIS NOLA cameos.
-
I really didn't like the ending. I thought it might be the neighbor. The girl seemed too young to me to suddenly be pulling that "I'm just a sweet little girl" line on Gibbs at the end. I didn't think it was believable and really seemed dragged in out of left field due to it being Halloween week. Also, were we supposed to believe she inflicted all those injuries on herself? A kid who looked about 8? And how did she get the gun out of the safe? Too bad because I've been liking this season overall. Tony's possible new girlfriend does seem like a positive development. And as mentioned last week, I like that Bishop has become more human and with things still to learn. (Last year she could have dressed up as Wonder Woman!)

Retro TV Channels: ”The Good Old Days of Television”
roseha replied to Actionmage's topic in Network Talk
Well, actually there is a Channel One on Time Warner in NYC - it's New York One, with local news all day/night. The Reuters news feed! I haven't thought of that in years, I seem to remember watching it to follow tennis scores. I never got cable till I moved to NYC in the 1970s, yes I'm old :). My first shock was that the cable channels had commercials! Silly me, I thought I was paying for free TV. Interesting also about the late night sign offs, I suspect it partly depended on the station. We had rules in my family against watching a lot of TV, but one night I sneakily stayed up to 2AM to watch the Joe Franklin Show, and believe me that was a long time ago! So whatever station Joe was on then must have run very late. -
The murders were more violent than usual; I had to look away sometimes during this one, but the plot did keep me guessing. I did figure out the final twist (well, one of them ) right after it happened but it was still good. Since the guest agent was FBI (right?) I was hoping to see Fornell but he's going to NCIS:NO next week instead.
-
Next week, guest appearance by Fornell! I did think tonight's show was more interesting than the last two, well at least less predictable to me. I couldn't figure out though, why Pride acted surprised that the exit from the basement was in the middle of the city; how far could they have gone? Bringing in his daughter and the upright piano was interesting though.

Just saw this. When Jerry died, there was no specific mention of Lennie's passing until Mike Logan brought it up indirectly on Season Five of Law and Order Criminal Intent (In the Wee Small Hours) ("I had a partner...."). Some of us felt at the time that Dick Wolf didn't want to upset Jerry's family by mentioning Lennie's death so soon. As indicated they didn't mention it on the Mothership for a long time, I believe in Ed Green's last episode.

Retro TV Channels: ”The Good Old Days of Television”

I couldn't stand Sam. To me the only good thing about Cheers is that, unlike with The Twilight Zone, I don't get creeped out by seeing the end of it when waiting for Perry Mason to come on! -
Thanks for bringing up nimble tv, folks, I am really surprised it didn't get a lot more publicity after Aereo folded. I took out a $5 a month plan so I can Cloud-DVR 10 hours and it looks good on my Roku and Ipad Mini. They don't explain up front, though, that even if you have a cable subscription in New York for example, you are only getting a few channels, almost totally over-the-air like Aereo. However, I can record some late night shows I like so it's good. I did ask them in an email to consider adding METV since they are now broadcasting from Times Square and I hope they will consider it; they said they would pass my request along.

Any New Yorkers here who are, like me, not able to receive the new METV station over Channel 3? I'm currently on my 3rd new antenna trying to pull in a channel that's less than two miles from me! After waiting so long to have it over the air in NYC, I'm very disappointed, I wish they would move the network broadcast frequency to UHF as most other channels around here (CBS, NBC) have done. Anyone with suggestions on a good indoor antenna, please let me know! -
I admit to watching that show as a kind of a guilty pleasure, but it does drive me crazy. I have to wonder if this show is faked. You have a family with kids insisting on "room for entertaining" though they are maybe hundreds of miles from their home, and an "Indoor pool" like it's a deal breaker. Then they expect their kids of both sexes to share the same bedroom? Is this all just a fraud to show off these condos for the program?

Maybe part of the problem with this ep was that you knew coming in what the disease was going to be, there was no jolt of shock as there would be in real life. Leverage handled a similar type of story line in The Rundown Job and it was one of the most gripping shows I have seen, but they didn't telegraph everything ahead of time. I want to like this show, but maybe they need to be more suspenseful and less obvious with the writing.
-
I was really taken aback by the whole Vance subplot, since I was getting convinced they were about to kill the character off. Then he's fine! I'm glad he is okay of course but yes, it was awfully quick. I did think he was getting attracted to the nanny but maybe also feeling a need to find a stepmother for the children in view of his situation. The resolution to the crime wasn't that surprising, simply because I thought jealous-wife would be too bland a storyline for NCIS to use as a wind-up though maybe they have before. Corruption made for a more interesting storyline. I did wonder also if Abby's park ranger friend would turn out to be a baddie though hopefully not (if he returns).

Gadgets: Phones, Tablets, & Whatever Else They Come Up With Next!
roseha replied to GHScorpiosRule's topic in Everything Else
I use Twitter and Facebook, but mainly to help publicize an artists' group I belong to. It's free publicity and I like to think it helps a little. I rarely post anything under my own name, though I do follow other people (a few relatives and organizations) on FB at times. I used to maintain a website for work, and believe me it was a tough job. You have to update constantly. Anyway, I only have a personal one for my photography now which is much easier to handle. I do have a working Ipad One - Resell value $2 it says on the web! However it still runs Youtube, Netflix, Hulu and a lot of other apps so I keep it for vacation use. However I got a new Ipad Mini this year and I think it's absolutely great, it has the portability of a Kindle with the color, web and video capability of a regular Ipad. I do like it. I also got an Iphone 5c but kind of wish I hadn't since so many people seem to have theirs get damaged or stolen...My old rule of thumb was never spend more than $100 on a phone but I do keep it hidden. If you get a phone or tablet the podcasts can be a lot of free fun. I listen all the time to the Film Photography Podcast who explore all kinds of rare cameras and film and are really entertaining. -
Leverage Classic - Past Seasons Discussion
roseha replied to fastiller's topic in Leverage: Redemption
CBS reruns the show very late on Saturday night / Sunday morning, and in just about 2 hours (2:05 AM Eastern) they are scheduled to show one of my very favorites, The Hot Potato Job. I love that Parker's convinced, late in the con, that there must be a diamond in the potato. I haven't seen the actual show, but every ad for CBS' new show Scorpio makes it look like a total Leverage rip-off to me. Anyone actually see it? -
I haven't seen this commercial mentioned yet, and I just love it - the Realtor.com ad with the "doghouse architects". Poor Sausage looks so teary eyed when they roll up to the house that's just been sold! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9sRsTdOzeY

Retro TV Channels: ”The Good Old Days of Television”
roseha replied to Actionmage's topic in Network Talk
The whole argument is so stupid I don't know where to begin. Leaving aside for a second the quality of the individual shows, some of which are as good today as when they were made, the idea that it's old so it's bad would negate the entire history of fine art, music, literature, you name it. Over 70 percent of silent film is thought to be lost because the generation that followed it had exactly this attitude, it's old, it's no good, so the nitrate films dissolved, burned, exploded due to neglect. I only wish there was a comedy on today as hilariously absurd as Green Acres or as brilliantly self-satirizing as Dobie Gillis. Of course, thirty years from now some guy will be dissing today's shows in the news I suppose. But now for the really important question, when does ME-TV start broadcasting from Times Square? There's rumored to be a holdup, either legal (Channel 3 in Hartford CT is said to be unhappy) or maybe technical? Anyway I hope it's sooner rather than later. -
Regarding Leverage, I don't think it's a UO, because I don't know anyone here who doesn't like it but it's so sad, I agree that so few people watched it. I'm still trying to get people I know to watch the re-runs. I wrote this elsewhere, but I really don't think TNT did a good job with promotion at all, they certainly gave it horrible lead ins (Falling Skies?) I may be a party of one, but I watched "Turkeys Away" (WKRP) on rerun last fall and barely laughed at all. The long build up has almost no humor and once the final situation is revealed that's it....I just think it's way over-rated. Give me the Bob Newhart "Over the River and Through the Woods" Thanksgiving episode any day.

What? Did someone diss Green Acres? That show was absolutely brilliant! It was the height of comic absurdity; every time Eva Gabor would mispronounce a word or come up with some weird idea, everyone in the town would repeat it to Oliver as if it was nothing! And this was even before the regular appearances of Arnold the pig! That show was truly surreal, it puts most later TV sitcoms to shame. In fact I just watched two episodes the other night and it didn't disappoint. Oh and by the way, Eddie and Eva singing and acting out the theme song was the best sitcom intro ever. -

Excited about Mission: Impossible, but don't understand them showing Cheers, wasn't that an 80s show? Not so retro, I hope they don't keep going down that road into the 1990s. Regardless, I can't wait for the ME-TV New York City broadcast from Times Square which should start any day now. As it is, I sometimes lose ME-TV over Time Warner cable because I have to use a "Tuning Adapter" machine for it to be received over my Tivo/Cable Card (it's a "switched" channel) and I lost several shows I wanted to record over the last few days when said Adapter went on the blink. Humph. I hope ME-TV is on Channel 3 tomorrow! -

Oh I just love METV. I have it on my cable but I can't wait till they start broadcasting in New York City as well, just to have another option. If they only had Perry Mason, that would probably be enough, I love watching the Perry-Della-Paul-Tragg scenes and the retro details. But as people are saying here they have so many other great shows, everything from The Fugitive and Star Trek to the Odd Couple and my recent discovery (on very late) the brilliant self-satrizing early 60s sitcom Dobie Gillis. I have to share this brilliant METV Kirk/Spock - Odd Couple Mashup which completely duplicates the look (typeface, split screen) of the Odd Couple opening credits: Hope this link works: http://metvnetwork.com/videos/metv-promos/star-trek-the-odd-couple-remix -
That few? I would have thought in those late 60s days 3 seasons would have added up to more eps. Star Trek definitely ran 3 years, my family actually watched it when it was first on. Actually the Friday night thing was good for us, we didn't have school the next day. But not good for the show I guess! I vaguely remember the Richard Benjamin/Paula Prentiss sitcom from that era, He and She, which was very clever but didn't last long at all I think.
