  1. I watch NBC over the air when I first wake up and then later I switch to Peacock so I can select different sports. I know people seem to hate Peacock but I've had it for awhile and it's pretty cheap, only about $59 a year for mine. I haven't noticed any issues with the the picture quality apart from the occasional freeze. I am watching on new Roku Ultra though so maybe that helps. I am recording NBC over Tivo but unfortunately I can't record the other NBC channels (USA etc) because I have Spectrum and their cloud DVR has crashed until further notice. I use Sling to record but it doesn't contain those channels. Peacock does have replays though.
  2. I can see why you all are getting annoyed at the too-soon pumpkin business. I can still remember going on a vacation to Quebec and seeing pumpkins growing in a field there. It was the first time I'd ever seen them in the wild so to speak. It seemed kind of magical. So yes there's definitely a time and place for these things.
  3. Just watched the replay of Lorenzo Musetti taking the Bronze medal by defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime in 3 sets. So very happy for Musetti, he has had such a breakthrough since the start of the grass season and now caps it off with an Olympic medal. Of course the gold medal match is tomorrow and all I can say is Carlos all the way!
  4. @Yeah No I hope the prednisone works out for you. I have been taking it for my vasculitis ever since I had terrible side effects back last November from taking cortisone. My rheumatologist was going to have me go down to 1 mg a day but then the rash started to come back and now we are up to 5 mg 3 days and 4 mg the other days. I am seeing her soon and will see what she says. I am wondering also about side effects, I am not sure what they all may be although it does appear that my serious balance problems may have somehow been indirectly connected to it. Fortunately after some really good vestibular therapy sessions I have gone back to almost normal in walking now. It hasn't caused weight gain for me but apparently the vasculitis causes weight loss and I weigh somewhat less than I did before this all started. So I guess it can vary. Good luck with it.
  5. I have to say that I really like the one for Visa with Simone Biles and her sister, it's just a lot more fun to watch just because you know it really is her sister and they are having fun making it.
  6. I think the microscopic bikinis is a big reason I've always found this sport such a turn off, I think it's ridiculous to expect or encourage the women to wear them. On top of that, I was just watching and I can't remember the last time I heard such arrogant commentary. The announcers must have spent a good 10 minutes talking to Misty May Treanor about the time she made a young Italian rival (who was playing in this game) cry during their match. I mean it was when 2016? 2012? And Misty wouldn't lay off the snark about it. Then they read the Greek umpire's name in a comical manner, then spoke almost condescendingly about the Brazilian rivals to the men's team. Meanwhile mentioning that the American men had just fired their coach in the middle of the games. No criticism of course.
  7. Have to give a shout out to my fav Lorenzo Musetti, he has just become the first Italian to make the Olympic semis in tennis! He has been on such a great run, maybe he can even get a medal. I have to say that I'm glad I have Peacock for the world feed tennis coverage, I have even been able to find at least some replays.
  8. I was watching live over Peacock and was so so happy when Simone nailed the floor routine and everyone started to celebrate. So thrilled for both Simone and Suni with all they have overcome. and yes Rebecca was brilliant as well, it was touching to see her jump up to the floor with the Brazilian flag after Simone and Suni had gone up with the American flag. I am often a chicken about watching an event live but I am really glad I saw this play out in real time.
  9. I find the Still Tasty website useful for checking on things like this I never buy meat anymore - when I first came to the city to go to art school I realized in a hurry that it was one of those things I didn't want to bother cooking and now I almost never eat it - however for dairy items and such I find that site useful with their recommendations for how long things will keep in the fridge, etc.

Congrats to Carlos for the back to back titles and in such stunning fashion. So glad it didn’t cost him when that person screamed during one of the match points. He really is a joy to watch as well.
  11. @Anela that’s too bad, I hope you were able to get your tooth situation taken care of - I had a crown fall out of my mouth into the sink on a Saturday a couple of months ago and it was such a pain to deal with although my dentist did a great job. But I do hope you will have the lump looked at also.

Lorenzo’s been my fave for a while now but by his own admission he’s had some struggles. I am just over the moon that he has made his first slam semi at Wimbledon. He has beaten Djokovic once and gone five sets with him twice, so go for it Lorenzo! Bonus points if the crowd screams Moooose and bugs you know who again…
  13. Hose-gate! Good luck @shapeshifter! This is funny because my physical therapist just made a reference today to my "cane-gate"! I have been taking vestibular therapy since April, along with a weekly gym class at NYU Langone, and last week another patient at the gym class accidentally left with my cane! So they gave me another temporary one, but even though I have hated all the balance issues I've had since February, I found I really miss my cane, it's a nice one and very stable. The other patient is having a session again tomorrow, but I had mine today as I am going away tomorrow for about 9 days so will have to get by with the substitute. On the bright side they are telling me that my balance has improved a lot, and at this point I think I really need to build up my endurance again as I was doing so little walking until recently. At least it's progress.

I would think that Rybakina is a heavy favorite to win her second Wimbledon, certainly at this point. Ostapenko might make it interesting, but I would have to think Elena will take it now. On the men's side, I have to mention that my favorite young player, the talented Lorenzo Musetti, has just made his first Slam quarter, and at WImbledon no less! He's having a great season on what was supposed to be his worst surface and it's great to see him finding his beautiful game on grass.

So far I’ve only seen Naomi’s match (on replay) but it’s great to see her playing well and looking positive. I hope she has a good run.
  16. My mom would make a meatloaf recipe that was cooked with a layer of ketchup on top. That was the only time I liked it. I almost never eat meat anymore so I guess I am non ketchup now. I do like relish and tartar sauce though, and I sometimes put a little dry mustard in if I make mac and cheese.
  17. I just bought a Staub enamel cast iron pot (small one, 2.75 quart) and while I haven't cooked in it yet I believe some people recommend using Bar Keepers Friend for stubborn stains, though I would be inclined to try baking soda and/or vinegar first. I've been using vinegar to take out stains on stainless steel and it works really well. I also had to remove the rust from a small Lodge cast iron dutch oven that I found in my cupboard - I'd forgotten I bought it, it must have been ages ago, minus the lid some how (I ordered a new one which fortunately was a match). I did a lot of scrubbing and vinegar can also help though I followed it with some dawn detergent. I put a little oil on to "season" it in the stove but unlike standard advice i did clean it off with a little soap and water after that.
  18. You all look great, thanks for posting the photos! I don't think I'd have the nerve though in the late 60s my brother decided to make some black and white photos of the family and there's one of me that is definitely in a late 60s style dress (I did love that look though I wasn't buying too many of my own clothes yet). Interesting that you had an OM-1 @Yeah No, i have one sitting on a shelf right above my desk right now. I still use film all the time except for the DSLR that I use to scan negatives, however my first SLR was a Rollei SL35M. It had a tendency to break down but the lenses were great.
  19. Good to know, thanks While I was watching the latest episode I thought that the only way Mike would be leaving would be if this was the series finale. But the more the episode went on the less likely that seemed, fortunately.
  20. Best prayers and wishes for a speedy recovery @PRgal! Too bad about the food! Hoping you will be home soon.

    The NBA

I hope Charles changes his mind also. Without the TNT coverage, especially Inside the NBA, I've lost interest in the rest of the playoffs. I can't imagine what the league is thinking if TNT is left with no coverage. The show has won I think 18 emmys? If Charles and Ernie in particular aren't there it won't be the same.
  22. I had a spinal MRI recently and they said it would take a long time. Personally MRIs don't bother me at all except when I have to take instruction from the technicians behind the window and I can't make out what they are saying. However that wasn't necessary this time. They asked me what music I wanted and since I was tired I just asked for something quiet. "Classical"? Sure fine. It went by faster than I thought and I just pretended to doze off. I'm sure glad I didn't hear any loud ads! @annzeepark914 you have my sympathies!

I slept late today and woke up to find that Alcaraz and Sinner were still playing, I watched the end over breakfast without my glasses on. It occurred to me, - and this has been an issue that caused me to buy new glasses this year - the little box that shows the scores is really tiny - this is also the issue with NBA games. Yet with three announcers, Mac, Mary and whoever is hosting on NBC/Peacock - not one person bothered to call the score in all the time I was watching. I squinted and still couldn't be sure. What are visually impaired people supposed to do? On the other hand, congrats to Carlos and I hope Casper wins the second semil
  24. I don't understand the tiny house appeal whatsoever. I've lived in the same one bedroom apartment in the city for decades, and I really miss being in a house so much. I realize that it has its own various problems, but I would love to have the space. I will say though that my super and the whole building staff, the doormen, handymen are really nice guys. They not only were so helpful during Covid, but ever since I have had problems with my balance (on top of my recent vasculitis) they have really gone out of their way to be helpful.
  25. Oh I missed that reference. I like that they did that. I get the impression that the actress who played Mrs. Marlowe has retired. I didn't love this episode but I did like seeing Dennis Buchanan the hilariously awful attorney again though the story didn't give him as much to do this time. I didn't remember that he and Jools had a history though of course they used it for the final punchline. I see there is at least an episode 5 to come, I hope we will get at least 6.
