  1. Based on this episode, David should have gone home, but I wasn't surprised that they eliminated Don. There were too many mousses this week. The stuff in the signature looked tasty though. I've never had snails but I don't why people are so iffy about them while they don't have a problem with mussels. Weird pronounciation for 'tartare' in the voice-over? I like Sunny, but Dan over the weeks I've grown very fond of Dan and I will be rooting for him in the final. I think the final 4 are a very likeable bunch - much more likeable than the last GBBO finalists.
  2. That episode made me so hungry! Why did nobody deep fry their choux? A doughnut should always be deep fried. Isn't that more or less what churros are - deep fried choux? Anyway, the chouxnuts all looked yummy. I dunno why Don is so obsessed with blue, its the least attractive colour for food. Send a tray of David's doughnuts my way please. The curffins looked alright. I am not a fan of blue cheese and prociutto, I prefer a sweet one. The cookie cakes sounded lame and I probably wouldn't want to eat one, but almost overdecorated with all the sweets they looked rally impressive. All the remaining bakers are really good and very likeable. Next week is going to be tough.
  3. I don't get the appeal of Burning Man either, but Hanneman saving the day at the end was entertaining. Who in their right mind would trust an ethics manifesto written by Gavin Belson? Another good B story for Monica and Gilfoyle. HR lady is a good addition to the pool of minor characters. Poor Dinesh. He finally makes it to Hawaii and still gets fucked. That story was a bit lame.
  4. The story with Sandra and Jerry coaxing Garret into a boys night with Jerry was oddly sweet. So far making the actress who plays Sandra a regular has played out well. Is it just me or does Sandra and Jerry's apartmentl layout look very similar do Dina's? Oh man, don't get me started on Amy and her brother. I'm totally with @Irlandesa that it was annoying that Mateo and Eric did make plans to go out in the end. I hope they don't pair them up just to tie Mateo and his fate even closer to Amy and Jonah. Of course Cheyenne would just pull the plug on the order machine. What kind of ordering service is this anyway where you can order (a) "pot" without any further specification so that Garret was left wondering whether the customer wanted to cook or get baked? The customer shots in the pick up area, with their impatience and already stuffed cars were hilarious though.
  5. WHAT? WHAAAT?? For a 6 episodes per series show thats a pretty long break.
  6. What a funny coincidence, I had one (well, two - I took one home) of those last week when my company hired an organic bakery for an event. They call it a Cruffin and there was one set with butter and cinammon and one with walnut filling - and they were quite good. Can't wait to see what the contestants come up with.
  7. Ooof. If Ethan had tried that with Gavin, he would have been Hoovered so hard. Richard needs to grow a pair. I felt really sad for Jared. The parents are arseholes, obviously, but if Bighead is the only person he had to talk to afterwards, thats even worse. They finally gave Monica something to do and with a somewhat current subject too. Not proud to admit that, but I am such a Monica - I would have done the same. I also liked how her morals went straight out of the window a few episodes when the billion dollar offer came in - these are my principles, if you don't like them, I have others.
  8. That was very much a middle eastern inspired spice week - thats not a complaint, a lot of bakes looked really tasty. I didn't know that Pide are a thing in Australia. They looked so nice on the show that I might try to make one instead of pizza next time. Now, I love baklava, preferably drowned in a buket of sirup, but why on earth would you try to stack them up? I know they do that for turkish weddings etc. but I really don't get why you would use a bake famed for its fine layers and destroy all that flaky goodness by building a tower. Davids looked alright, but really none of their structures made the pieces themselves look very inviting. Its the same with those croquembouche towers - they look very impressive if they are really really tall but everyting under 40 cm is just not worth the caramel burns you get from making it. I am slightly disappointed that Angela ist still around, but Wynn has been struggling the past for weeks too. Craving baklava now ...
  9. Give the toy people a call and tell them that you'll have to postpone the toy drive for 24 hours fro whatever reason. They other guy was only there for the day anyway, wasn't he? Problem solved. Amy is a horrible store manager, it isn't even funny anymore. So the way Cloud 9 is run, she will be made district manager by the end of the serason. That whole Mateo story just makes me angry because he is such an obnoxious character. There needs to be an episode that reminds us why people are supporting him soon.
  10. What a contrived story. I agree @Corgi-ears - Gavin would have given himself at least 2 weeks to object to something like that. Good to see Ben Feldman again. I hope Jinjan gets his comeuppence before the finale.
  11. Original Air Date: 11/14/2019
  12. Dina's dad will come visit, and he will be played by Dean Norris >> https://tvline.com/2019/11/08/superstore-season-5-dean-norris-cast-dina-estranged-dad/
  13. This is a surprise. It wasn't a great show, but it was entertaining because it was so borderline. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if renewal talks broke down due to unreasonable demands rather than ratings or reception.
  14. What a lovely set of challenges, especially the tarts. A nice balance between taste, execution and design on a level that would tempt me to try something similar at home. Like in the olden Bake Off days. Well done Dan! After the first episode I thought he was just some over the top personality they cast for drama, but he has some serious baking chops and seems like a very lovely guy. Dunno why they didn't have Angela on the bottom, other than the technical all her bakes this week where undercooked (or too blond as they say on GABO). I find myself rooting for the guys and a final with Dan, Don and David does not seem unlikely. I don't like cream horns. My mother used to make them for every party or celebration when I was younger (using shop bought puff pastry of course). I think she liked to show off because she was the only one who did them and she got so many compliments for them.
  15. Its a bit underwhelming when they stick together flat biscuits like Jodi's Eiffel Tower (not a very fresh subject either). I liked Nataliia's because it had a more sculptured look but overall I am tired of all the challenges that are too focused on decorating. My favourite final showstopper was in series 1 of GBBO where they were asked to make several bakes for a tea party including sandwiches (baking their own bread), tarts, choux and scones. A proper test of a variety of baking techniques. It was the same for Project Runway - they needed a valid work visa but US citizenship was not required. Eastern European bakers seem to excel in the Canadian Baking Show - last year's winner Andrei has Polish roots. I certainly can't blame them, Eastern European bakery is so good (I had a Bohemian Kolache earlier, still warm and omg so delicious). They need to get Dan back as a presenter. This year's host were so annoying.
  16. Pies with a face? I rewatched a few early GBBO episodes recently (because someone in the GBBO forum reminisced about series 3) where they explicitly mention that the signature challenge is about their favourite, tried and tested, family recipe. By all means, ask them to decorate their bakes, but that challenge was very specific, wasn't it? A lot of people have mentioned hairnets etc. and I don't really get why. If you sign up to be judge for a TV cooking/baking competition - especially one about amateur (home) bakers - then thats what you get. The chefs on professional Masterchef or GBM don't wear hairnets either. Anyone remember Mary Berry on the Graham Norton show a few years back, when she brought a cake that her dog had a go at?
  17. The bakes and contestants were alright, even though some of the mirror glazes were of less than appetizing colours. They are back to the same cramped work bench layout, which I found really annoying last year. Fortunately they have switched to the 3 challenges format. Lets just hope the hosts have turned it down a bit - I stopped watching halfway through the first series because they were such a nuisance. Speaking of annoyances, whats up with the sound editing? The non stop, and very disjointed, background music? Especially when someone is speaking or during the judging. Its as if they had a mixed tape of 30 second Bake Off signature tracks on random for the whole episode.
  18. I didn't catch it when it first aired during the summer but the episodes are currently on repeat and on the iPlayer: Flour Power Its a very simple, homely show where work collegues compete against each other. They produce one bake at home for a bake sale. The first episode features employees from a vetinary practice, so everyone who wanted a few more "juicy" stories out of Rosie will get them there 😄
  19. Some people are just lazy. I usually just resend the email that I've sent them last time so that it is obvious that they already have the information - and I especially enjoy doing that when they send their request with other people in cc and pretend that it is oh so urgent or make it look as if I forgot to send the info.
  20. I am defenitely not in the target audience for that, but if anyone watches, let me know whether this is just a miniature version of Bake Off or whether there is some educational component. If they want to get Youngsters into baking I would expect a segmet where the contestants and the audience get some tips or a masterclass - like explaining the technical challenge. Liam was a very charismatic contestant and I understand why they picked him as a second judge, but I hope he does better judging than he did as a presenter on Bake Off Professionals, where he looked completely out of place.
  21. Well done David. That was unexpected. I am sure he made a few bookies very unhappy. After the Steph home video I though I knew where this was going. From low self esteem to Bake Off winner - a producer's wet dream. Alas, it all went pear shaped. It was hard to see Steph being so disappointed with herself. (on a more superficial note: she and her mom apparently watched the same eyeliner tutorial on Youtube) Note to all future contestants: Make sure your don't overdo the booze! Everytime a bake holds a half empty bottle of strong liquor into the camera you know how this is gonna end. What a lot of drama for Alice and her parents' cancelled flight. The editing was a bit annoying again, when it looked like they had to decorate everything in the last 5 minutes. I probably won't remember much of this series or the contestants. It just wasn't very memorable, was it?
  22. She does have other shows and making fun of her height seems to be a common denominator for most of them. It's getting old. I think they film most of the time call sequences and comedy bits all in one go, probably before the bakers enter the tent or between the first two challenges. Do we think that Noel and Sandy come up with the stuff or whether they are scripted?
