I think Shania Twain too often shoots herself in the foot with her songwriting choices. "Any Man of Mine" is a damn near blameless classic... until that embarrassingly cutesy "you gotta shimmy, shake" tangent at the end. Sorry, but I have always hated that part, because it feels forced in.

A Case Of The Mondays: Vent Your Work Spleen Here
Wiendish Fitch replied to potatoradio's topic in Everything Else
Another job interview today, via Zoom. She was over 5 minutes late (I was early, so at least it wasn't my fault this time). I don't think I got it, because I got the whole "we're interviewing other candidates, we'll be in touch" spiel. Well, harsh lesson learned: I'm going to practice and rehearse my interview skills so that I have a better chance next time. I can't keep having blind faith in myself. I want to leave my current job in the worst way. -
Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"

I've come to hate going to the dentist, because even though I am super fastidious about my teeth (I brush twice a day and I even floss regularly), it's never enough, and everyone there is so goddamned condescending to me. I recently got chastised because I stopped using my WaterPik (the lid on the damn water chamber broke, what a waste of $40) and the hygienist loves to tell me about her poor dad losing all his teeth. I also once had a hygienist wipe the scraper on my bib at regular intervals as she worked (passive aggressive much?!). Insult to injury? Last year I had to have a very deep cleaning that involved getting numbed, and everyone had a healthy giggle when I tried to talk. Well, I hope all their teeth fall out, and they realize in horror that it isn't just a dream... -

Max rocks! Sweet, playful, intuitive, and he bit Ursula/Vanessa in the rump. Good boy!! -
I have no idea who designed Jasmine's trademark outfit, but I'm willing to bet their only frame of reference was I Dream of Jeannie. *Sigh*. Oh well. Moving along, here's a publicity still of Cyd Charisse from Meet Me in Las Vegas, proof once again that she wore emerald green better than I ever will. *Another sigh* Oh well.

I'm sure Caroline Bingley had a dozen or more reasons to warn Elizabeth about Wickham, and not a single one was altruistic. I not only agree with EtheltoTillie that she did it to feel superior, but I also think she did it because she thought it would win her brownie points with her crush, Mr. Darcy ("I warned poor simple country girl Elizabeth about that mean ol' Wickham! Wasn't that generous of me?").

Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"

Oh, the tire place I go to is very good, and not remotely a major chain (it's rather hole-in-the-wall). I felt awful coming in just when they were about to close. They were civil, but I could tell they were slightly grumpy about it (I don't blame them one bit). I was very fortunate that they patched it up, but I still get pissed because this does happen to me more than once a year. I live in a very busy area with unceasing construction, so of course the streets are littered with nails, screws, and other debris just waiting to embed themselves in my tires. -

NAILS IN MY TIRES!! I swear this happens multiple times a year! And the good people at the auto repair place are generously patching it up now, even they close in about a minute! Oh, how i curse our polluted streets…. -
Kim Novak's grey suit is so right for the character of Madeleine in Vertigo. The grey washes her out, and the suit is form-fitting, but looks more binding than sexy... and that's entirely the point. Given her situation, she's more of a ghost than a person, trapped in emptiness. Interestingly, Novak had the unmitigated temerity to say to designer Edith Head the first day she met her, "I don't wear suits, and I don't wear grey." The moral of the story is... You wear whatever Edith Head puts on you without question or complaint!

I'm So Disappointed In You: Celebrity Missteps

I would absolutely adore it if he did that. Not just because it's a nice thing to do... but because it would piss Joann off so, so, soooooo much.- 1.4k replies

I'm So Disappointed In You: Celebrity Missteps

John Lithgow has always been okay by me, and I can't begrudge him his right to work. Now, if he got on his soapbox and started blathering about poor Joann being the victim of "cancel culture" and the "woke mob" and blah, blah, blah... yeah, I'd probably look at him with a very jaundiced eye from that point on. There are only so many people I can cancel out of my life. A ton of actors I like or even love have worked with either Polanski or Allen or both. Sad, but true.- 1.4k replies

Fashion Don'ts: Worst Movie Outfits

Shifting focus to the more trivial aspect of the It Ends With Us controversy, here's a fabulous video detailing everything wrong with the movie's costumes, and why good costuming is so important. -

This song has been on my mind lately. It's so ding-dang bighearted and postive, and I just love it.

Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"

I don't get people who get randomly defensive. I once knew someone who referred to dinner as "supper" (I live in the South, regional thing, I guess), and she snottily said that that's what she chose to call it... even though I didn't say a damn word, and I don't think my expression betrayed a single thing. She apparently assumed I was judging her. In case anyone is wondering, I legitimately do not care what you call your meals: dinner, supper, happy-dappy yum yum time, I DON'T CARE! -
I never liked Absolutely Fabulous and I feel weirdly guilty about it. It should be up my ally, but I always thought it was rather boring and unfunny.

He definitely had the power. RIP, Mr. Erwin. -
I just finished watching the final installment, and while I'm willing to take a more nuanced look at the Stauffers, I still don't like them. Don't get me wrong: the death threats aimed at their kids were every shade of unforgivable, and we must be careful about participating in online dogpiling. Grumbling a little on a forum is one thing (hi, me!), but publicly venting your rage on more visible platforms can have unforeseen consequences. On the other hand, while my sympathies are 100% with the kids, I still look at Myka and James (remember him?) with a slightly more jaundiced eye. Adoption is a massive, life-changing decision, and it should never be entered into lightly. I couldn't help but wince at how they bragged about finding an agency that could speed up the process (seriously, what's the rush?). I really do feel for Huxley, who had a life, identity, and different name before coming here, only to be thrust into a whole other family. I can sympathize if it absolutely had to be done... but this is why you don't publicize the lives of your family. No family is perfect, mistakes get made, and maybe it's better if you keep that shit private, not just for your sake but for the sake of your kids. If nothing else, I hope Huxley is doing okay. I also hope that Myka and James have learned the value of privacy and reticence, and they're just letting their kids live a normal life.
