  1. I have wondered about this with regard to people like JB. If (and frankly that's a big if) they actually do believe in God and in heaven and hell are they truly so deluded that they think there is nothing they can do on earth that won't have consequences, bad consequences, eventually?
  2. Same. If these had actually been the family they pretended to be I think we'd all still be disgusted by Josh and his crime but we'd be feeling sympathy for the rest of the family. But they were NEVER what they pretended to be and into the bargain had the gall to not only think they were better than everyone else but they have profited for years from their small minded bigotry masquerading as christianity.
  3. I had some sympathy for the character of Kyra. They did have a few episodes where it was clear she really took second place to Cheyenne (I am remembering especially the one where she didn't get to go on a special trip because Cheyenne screwed up and needed more money for school - details are fuzzy but that was the essential storyline). Anyway, that said Kyra herself was just never likeable. I don't know if that was the intent or not but writing her as a bright smart mouth could have worked if they hadn't added a mean girl vibe to everything she said.
  4. We wouldn't be discussing this right now though if Depp wasn't pushing this lawsuit. At the end of the day he's the one who is still offending against her by dragging her name through the mud and hoping enough of it sticks so that he gets a pat on the back from the official court and from the court of public opinion. He could have chosen to be the bigger person and just moved on...but he didn't. I had no real opinion on either of them before this latest conflict blew up but Depp himself is the one who's convinced me that they are't actually equal offenders at all.
  5. Oh cripes! Now I feel old!!
  6. For some reason I always had the impression that they never gave any real thought to George having any kind of teaching credentials. I don't know if that's because he actually didn't need that to be able to coach high school football or because they just didn't realize he would need that! As a non-Americal watching this I assumed being a coach was his whole job and had nothing to do with being a teacher.
  7. I ended up fast forwarding through the dialogue and just watched the song and dance numbers. Sutton Foster was awesome but the play itself, well, yeah. I don't know if it was the story or the acting - probably both - but it did not work for me.
  8. Super petty peeve - I don't like it when "they" make a TV show that is based on series from my childhood that are absolutely NOT like the series from my childhood. Riverdale, Nancy Drew, Tom Swift - to name three recent ones. The shows are probably awesome in their own right but anyone tuning in thinking "hey cool, loved those books as a kid" is probably going to be disappointed, they certainly are going to be surprised!
  9. I'm out for Monday and Tuesday and definitely in for Wednesday.
  10. Being pretty naturally isn't of course but in show business maintaining pretty can be a full-time job. I actually feel sorry for celebrities who have to constantly keep their looks - along with not being allowed to show their real age (heaven forfend!) they aren't allowed to go anywhere without the full hair, make-up, designer nails etc. And of course carrying an extra pound or two - yikes. Frankly, it sounds exhausting to me.
  11. I wished they had referenced this episode at some point later when all the pieces were falling into place for them but as far as I remember they don't.
  12. I'm not sure about Mary's employment status. Technically she wasn't fired, Pastor McNasty asked her to take a leave of absence, which didn't sound like he intended her to never come back but then she went and cleaned out her office and I don't think he said anything to stop her from doing that. Either way leave of absence or let go she has no income. But I don't know what this would mean in terms of being eligible for unemployment insurance in the '90s.
  13. The lawsuit isn't about whether Heard is a paragon of virtue, Depp has to prove that an Op Ed she wrote materially affected his career. I don't think he's managed to actually do that so far. All he's really demonstrated to the world is that both of them are pretty crappy people.
  14. I first read about the arrest here but I never even thought of CP, I figured it was the usual Duggar financial shenanigans of some kind that had finally come home to roost.
  15. Speaking of the sentencing date - unless it changes it's the 25th? I plan to be here. I really appreciate sharing this with all of you. People in my 'real life' are barely aware of who the Duggars are.
  16. Never change, MM, keep thinking anyone would ever take advice from you.
  17. I was wondering this as well. The sentencing date is May 25th I think so they don't have much time to respond if they intend to. The supposedly hotshot defense team should be thoroughly embarassed by this. I guess as long as they get paid they don't care but still, it can't be doing their reputation much good. Not the losing the case, that happens, but the way the don't seem to have been able to coordinate a decent effort to try and mitigate his sentence. Hmm, almost like they want the book thrown at their client. Makes me think they are just as fed up with the Duggars as we are.
  18. My exact thought as I was reading the whole section dealing with the letters of support. They made an excellent point, that I am sure will not have escaped the judge's notice - that not only are the letters of support providing pitiful examples of Josh's supposed sterling character but more importantly that the people who will surround him when he leaves prison are as deep in denial over the seriousness of his crimes as he is. This does not bode well for him - or the children he will more than likely continue to victimize.
  19. I actually wondered about this. I am positive I've read about other well heeled pseudo celebrities buying up thousands of copies of their books and donating or gifting them (I mean who wouldn't want a free copy of a crappy tell all rather than a bottle of wine?) or hiding them in a garage (possibly) to make it seem like they were more successful than they actually were.
  20. This is a great example of how Josh's crime is punishing Anna. I mean most of us think the best thing that could happen for her is that she is no longer in the baby making business but for her that's never been what she wanted and this is cruel. She really did see herself stepping into Michelle's shoes - maybe even going her one or two better. Now, no matter what happens in terms of the sentencing her chances of having at least what? 12-13 more kids are significantly diminished if not completely demolished.
  21. I grew up in the suburbs, no Pop Tate's Chocklit Shoppe for us! The closest thing we had to a hangout was when the McDonalds opened up across from the shopping centre.
  22. I don't remember their accents (if any) but I do seem to recall from that first episode they were in that they weren't originally from Texas (I am thinking Louisinana but could be wrong). Paige's mother convinced the father to move his dental practice so Paige would have more opportunities.
  23. I actually found it reassuring, in a way, that he is only reaching 3 million daily. I'd have thought the number was a lot higher.
  24. I have reached the end of my re-reading of Nero Wolfe. The last book A Family Affair was good(ish) but there were a few things about it I really didn't like. The dismissive attitude towards "women's lib" was an irritant for sure but the main problem for me was I didn't buy the initial clue (a piece of paper with a name on it that ends up in a waiter's hands). It just seemed flimsy to me and flimsy isn't something I expect from Rex Stout! That said the ending was powerful so I can overlook a lot for that. Now I am about to embark on re-reading my Phoebe Atwood Taylor collection. I adore her series featuring Asey Mayo the Cape Cod sleuth. Let the madcap fun begin!
  25. Regional accents are something where actors can't win. If they try and don't succeed it gets commented on mercilessly, if they don't try it gets commented on but usually they will get a pass. Unlike the actress playing Missy the actor playing Georgie actually is from Texas so the accent is either his own speaking voice or he's able to bring it off on demand just as Jim Parsons (also from Texas) could in BBT.
