  1. He also had 5 of those children with the same woman and in his defense he spread out his fathering over the course of about 20 years*. Cannon, on the other hand, seems determined to have 20 kids in the space of 5 minutes.'' *Yikes, correction make that 30 years!
  2. Just saw a headline saying Depp is considering not pursuing Heard for the damages he was awarded as "this was never about money". First I'm glad for her sake if he's prepared to not push her into bankruptcy but yeah, it was never about money. No kidding. It was all about humiliating her and making her life miserable. Mission accomplished.
  3. Just looked up info on the new movie and didn't see Marilyn or Eddie named in the cast. Hopefully that's not because they aren't going to be there. I did notice that Pat Priest and Butch Patrick were listed - cameos of some kind presumably. Still and all not sure I'll bother. Most of the the time these movies based on an a old show don't work for me. The first Brady Bunch movie being the shining exception.
  4. As several people pointed out in the Counting On thread with regard to Josh Duggar - the feds don't mess around.
  5. Unless you are my grandmother you don't get to tell me what to eat and what not to eat! I gave my grandmother a pass because, hey, she's my Nanny!
  6. Same. It used to be meat and people trying to guilt me because I ordered a hamburger, that seems to have calmed down now and the people I know who are vegetarian or vegan just get on with their own lives. I've noticed now though how often people have to talk about their no-carb diet and proselytize. Makes me sorry that we've become more casual about eating out with other people. One of the fringe benefits of Covid was getting to avoid this kind of thing!
  7. Another peeve today (I'm on a roll): I was trying to find a suitable meme to put on my FB feed to acknowledge that today is D-Day and instead of finding memes commemorating the soldiers who landed on the Normany beaches I kept finding memes using that historical event as a way to give a slap to people who ask for "safe spaces" or mocking those who feel that white men have been privileged. Frankly, unless you landed on that beach or performed a similar heroic activity you have a helluva nerve co-opting this to further your own agenda of hate.
  8. I always wonder why women take onguest starring parts where they end up playing the stereotypically shrewish wife or, more frequently, the money grubbing shrewish ex-wife - but yeah, realistically if you start getting too choosey about the roles you play you stop working.
  9. All the nonsense swirling around criticising the behavior of a 4 yr old (little Prince Louis for anyone lucky enough not to have read some of the comments) reminded me of the time we took our son aged around 3-4 to see Sharon, Lois and Bram in concert and he stood up on his seat and yelled out "you guys can't sing!" at the top of his sweet little voice. Sigh. Anyway, today's pet peeve: people who expect mature behavior from little kids and then proceed to presume that a small child behaving badly in public has to mean (a) he's incorrigible and/or (b) has rotten parents.
  10. Wow! I don't think I've ever "met" anyone else who's read Joan Aiken! I loved most of her books but The Wolves of Willoughby Chase is probably my favourite!
  11. So much this. And what particularly is bothering me now is that most people I know who are upset about this verdict will say that they feel that both Depp and Heard are toxic people but the people I know personally (sigh) who are gloating at Depp's victory are talking like he's a great guy who's just been misunderstood.
  12. Speaking of social media, I have a friend who tries to make me feel like I'm goofing off while she's busy in the salt mines when I send her messages or game requests. If you don't want people to know that you are on message boards or are playing online games during work hours there are ways to do that. Posting through your FB account is not one of them.
  13. There are nurses at my hospital who bought into the whole Covid conspiracy crap and are now out of work because of that. It boggles the mind but there it is. With regard to the Depp/Heard story I am seeing the loudest defenders of Depp in my acquaintance are the "what about the menz" types. Because to them it always seems to come down to a woman can't win if it means a man might lose.
  14. Seconding the agreement. As someone upthread noted it does seem like the jury thought they were both liars. Or, alternatively, both were telling the truth? I guess.
  15. Quoting myself to say that so far while I do feel Uncle Charley fits in well I prefer Bub. And today they are airing the last episode with Mike. I feel blue. ETA: speaking of feeling blue am watching now and this is the first colourized episode. Nice to know that big leather chair is red.
  16. It also doesn't mean that anything she has said or done has anything to do with Depp's career. Which is the point of this lawsuit. Well technically the point of this lawsuit. I agree with others who feel the true purpose was for Depp to torment and taunt Heard and remind her that he's still capable of hurting her.
  17. I checked the Bell Canada website and the answer to whether they still have print phone books was not exactly definitive. So today's peeve is poorly written information in company websites: So I am assuming you can still get business directories in print but not residential?
  18. A story I heard at the start of the trial was that she once spit in the face of an employee of hers who asked for a raise. I have no way of knowing, of course, if this actually happened. If it did though, that to me, is an example of Amber Heard being an absolutely terrible person, If it didn't it's an example of the kind of lies that are going around about her,
  19. What's really bothering me is that people are completely ignoring the whole reason for the trial. Depp is the one who keeps dragging Heard into court. But the way it gets played out in the wide world makes it sound like Heard is the one who won't stop harassing him and is the one continually seeking public attention over this.
  20. In some ways this reminds me of when O J Simpson was on trial, I had a work colleague who believed he was innocent mainly because she had always had a crush on him and said any man as good looking as him could get any woman he wanted so.... There was no way any discussion of this with her didn't turn into a heated debate.
  21. Another peeve: people using my FB update posts to link to dubious news articles from news sources I would never use. I end up deleting my whole post when this happens because I don't want to start a squabble for one thing but also because I don't want that shady stuff on my FB page!
  22. Agreed. He thinks he's slick and smart and he's about to enter a prison system populated by others who also think they're slick and smart. Some of them actually are. He is either going to be humbled or he's going to learn from those who really do know how to play the game and win (well mostly win - they are in prison themselves after all!!). Either way the Josh Smuggar who goes into the federal prison system won't be the same one who walks out - hopefully at least 12 full years from now.
  23. This has been his downfall from the get go. Within his limited circle maybe he is as slick and smart as he thinks he is but the minute he interacts with those outside the Duggar control he fails. I think most ordinary people look at that begging to be slapped face and see him for what he is. While he thinks he's the master manipulator. Prison is going to smarten him up once and for all. Well, at least I think it will.
  24. I never saw that. To me the MTM show is deservedly a classic and one I can watch again and again. I can't say the same about any of the spin offs. The first year of Rhoda was good but it tanked fast. The Cloris Leachman show (I think called Phylis) anyway I never see it in reruns and I think I know why.
