  1. Thanks to the producers for booking decent wedding venues this time. The previous dreary and cheap hotel conference rooms didn't exactly get the couples off to a promising start. David's talking head about a possible screen shot of two disparate bachelor/ette parties was funny but perhaps a portent of troubles to come. I feel like we learned the least about Ashley over the two hours. I wish this show was on Netflix so I could binge it. I'm too nosy to wait!
  2. And there's always the average-to-dumpy looking guy who wants a combination of Beyonce/Halle/Rhianna/whatever. Bite me. If Tres is a breast man, he hit the damned jackpot.
  3. I hope the rumors about jerky behavior this season aren't true because so far all the participants seem much more down to earth and mature than last time. No drama queens or divas (hi, Sean!). As usual, the parents about broke my heart with their concern, worry and tears. They love these people and are going to be wounded and share in any heartbreak right along with them. The stony, disapproving faces on David's friends were pretty funny. Scruffy beard on Tres = okay Medium short beard on David = maybe trying too hard Scary beard on Neil = nuh uh
  4. Dr. Schwartz looks nice this season; maybe some cosmetic work or just better hair and makeup. I continue to loathe Cilona. That's all I got.
  5. The screenshots from this week's story reminded me of Wendy's lack of makeup. Even Jessica wears makeup and Wendy's scrubbed face stood in contrast to the other women on the show. I assume it was a deliberate choice -- to show her as selfless and not prideful, I guess? Or emphasize that Jeri was dumping her for a younger, prettier version? But really, given their personalities, she and Jeri never seemed like a good match to me anyway.
  6. I couldn't agree more. I don't know what to think about a man who believes he's in a committed relationship but can't quite find the time to call or write for weeks on end, but still, the burden was absolutely on him. It sounds like you didn't even know for sure if he was still interested. As far as the note goes, he didn't say "our future" so I wouldn't have put much stock in that if it had been me. In retrospect, I know I had for years imbued my first real love with more sentiment and meaning than it perhaps deserved.
  7. I had the same thought. Ivy may not normally be a jumper, but what if there's a squirrel or cat or loud noise on the other side of the fence one day. She could scramble over in a few seconds even if someone was in the yard with her. But that did look like a great match between dog and human. Nice to see after those two bummer adoptions recently. I was beginning to wonder if the producers were deliberately not showing clips of aggressive dogs in order not to feed the flames of the "pit bulls are killers" belief, but that one left alone in the house was pretty snarly. Generally, though, all the dogs we see in the kennels and even the strays seem so docile and friendly. It's interesting how people bond with certain dogs. The staff at VRC interact with hundreds of different animals but there are always one or two that really touch them and they end up adopting. I was a little surprised that Tia felt that strongly about Jethro, simply because he isn't a pit bull. Have we ever seen where Tia lives? It looked like that might have been her house in Assumption Parish, but I don't recall seeing anything in New Orleans proper.
  8. Maybe the use of Firefox was a deliberate anti-placement choice since it is open source? I wonder how far product clearances go -- like, if a character wears jeans, does production need to get permission from Levi's? Restaurants people go to, cars they drive? I have noticed that a lot of TV/movie characters use iPhones these days.
  9. I felt some of that frustration, too, although my response was to start disliking Jessica as I became exasperated with what I saw as her blundering. Several posters have also remarked that they felt the series was 3-4 episodes too long because the focus stayed so much on Kilgrave, Kilgrave, Kilgrave. That's why I appreciated Jeri's divorce story and Jessica working an actual new case with the Eastmans, as a bit of leavening.
  10. I started gaining weight in my late 30s -- the old metabolism slowed down but I kept eating the same way I always had. And 2-3 pounds a year? Adds up over 30 years! I'm always amazed at people my age who haven't gained weight, like, how did they DO that? Cared, I guess. During the period when I first had to buy a bigger pants size (from a 6 to 8), I was out for dinner with my boyfriend. The bill came with two of those wrapped peppermint hard candies, and when I took one, my boyfriend grabbed it out of my hand. That was the end of our relationship, oh yes it was. So much control, judgment, shame, and degradation in that one little gesture. To this day that still stands as one of the most monumental arguments of my life. Guy didn't know what hit him.
  11. I wonder if the aftermath and any repercussions from Kilgrave's homicide will be covered in season 2. The show made such a big plot point out of not being able to prove that Kilgrave was doing anything illegal so I'm wondering how, or if, Jessica gets away with killing an unarmed man.
  12. What a load of hooey. I can't wait for this shit to end. At this point I'd be happy if Audrey and Nathan both died in the finale, but I suppose that's too much to ask. Sorry for all the negativity. I feel like I need to see it through since I've come this far, but honestly I should have quit watching after season 3.
  13. Goodness, I've never heard of such a thing. What's to stop deadbeat parents from relinquishing their rights in order to avoid child support, then? And don't get me wrong, I did get fat. ;)
  14. My mother and I became somewhat estranged when I was an adult and, had I taken a murderous turn, I'm honestly not sure if she would have publicly defended me. My guess is she would have, blood in the end being thicker than water. My dad likely would not since, post-sobriety, he prides himself on integrity and honesty. I'm the younger of two sisters and it was kind of understood in the family, though left unspoken, that my mother and maternal grandmother favored me. There was nothing overt, but I was quiet, docile, and obedient while my sister was not. Decades later my grandmother was in mental decline and my sister and I flew in from out of state to close up her house and get her settled in a nursing home. When I walked into the room, my grandmother said, "I remember you! You were always my favorite!" My sister just rolled her eyes. Grandma's next remark was, "You got fat!"
  15. Moved from the episode thread: I'm with you there on the twins but only partly there on the lack of humor. While I agree that the show doesn't take a snarky or irreverent tone like Mars or Buffy or Rockford, where we diverge is that I prefer it that way. There are a few lighter throwaway lines/scenes and some of what Kilgrave does could be considered black humor, but for me, the show depicts a very bleak and disturbing look at how one particular psychopath has gutted people's lives, and how one extremely damaged person has struggled to fight back and reclaim hers. I think injecting too much ironic or sarcastic humor into that would be jarring. It's also clear that -- even more than usual -- the show is not for everyone and YMMV. I haven't recommended it to anyone I know IRL because I'm pretty sure most of my relatives and friends would find it too disturbing.
  16. Seth told his dad he hoped he could be as good a father as Larry was and Larry said, "You won't be."
  17. Aw, how great for them! I guess this means Seth will have even less time to play video games (although of course he and his wife mutually had come to the decision that there were better ways for him to spend his time).
  18. I recently Netflixed a few episodes of Eli Stone, which ran from 2008-2009, and was really taken by how different that character is from Sherlock. Jonny uses entirely different voices, mannerisms, and demeanors for the two roles. Eli Stone wasn't all that long ago, but Jonny also acts so much younger there, and it's not just the thicker hair. For Sherlock, he brings a sense of age and gravitas along with the acerbic impatience and world-weary cynicism. The guy doesn't get nearly enough credit/recognition for his acting, is what I'm saying.
  19. If we're going down that road, the entire series* is a quagmire of moral relativism. * And perhaps all superhero shows?
  20. Pam was using her sexual wiles to get what she wanted from Jeri, which while classic mistress behavior, isn't exactly admirable. I wouldn't go so far as to call her a gold-digger, but she was certainly dating up. Her character was useful as a plot device, and I enjoyed Jeri's divorce storyline as a whole, but I'm pretty neutral on Pam as a person. Didn't like her, didn't dislike her. I am very interested to see how Jeri climbs out of the financial, personal, legal, and professional hole she's dug for herself, though, and I really hope she'll be back next season.
  21. Only if she expands her wardrobe to something other than patterned wrap dresses.
  22. It's a common enough failing among superheroes -- lies, secrecy, getting in over their heads, wanting to protect/shield others, and the need to handle everything themselves because they're the ones with the powers. My failing is that it continues to exasperate me.
  23. I looked up frogfish -- not all that froggy, if you ask me. I spent some time this morning browsing through Teddi's Twitter account to see if she's that grumpy all the time. She doesn't tweet much, but Ayn is of course bright and bubbly. I didn't look at all the couchies, but of the ones I saw, Rashawn has the most followers. He's posted some pictures from the wrap party. Julie and Andy Egber seem to be skinnier every time we see them.
  24. You know, they don't watch as many Bravo series as you'd think. The one network I never thought would show any restraint. Poor Cathy. Now all she can think about is Seth Rogan's hairy, hairy balls and seeing "the outline of everything!" I would totally watch "Chicago Pizza." Did anybody figure out what Scott's t-shirt said? Blake's was "Beyonce Wasn't Built in a Day" and Emerson's was "Witch, Please". Brandy and Julie should do a Drunk History-like parody of Antiques Roadshow. Write that shit and pitch it to the History Channel, ladies! Emerson on the Alaskan Bush People: "They don't talk like Nell, which is better than I expected."
  25. I generally think of leggings being worn with a tunic/long top, but if not, then yes, I would consider them inappropriate for elementary or secondary school. Same with yoga pants or tights; anything that hugs like a second skin and outlines the butt and crotch. Might as well use body paint to "wear" a pair of jeans. Same goes for boys and spandex bicycle shorts or if they were in the habit of wearing ballet tights in public. I don't need to see anyone's genitals outlined, male or female. College students and other adults are on their own.
