  1. You can see about 10 girls/women with the wide camera shot in the theater. I was thinking about Professor Obi-Pro's advice to Sheldon that he can see the movie any time but only has a certain number of days to spend with Amy. Sheldon bought it, but it's backwards. There's a finite number of days to see the movie in the theater but Sheldon has every day until one of them dies to be with Amy. Unless I'm misunderstanding, but the actual line is: "Sheldon, you can see this movie whenever you want, but you only have a limited number of days that you can be with this woman. Be with her." Maybe it was supposed to be, "...limited number of birthdays..." Anyway, no big deal. I'm just noticing more details because I've watched the episode three times. I never do that with any show!
  2. I took it as Tina making a dig at herself, like, "Yep, this is just the sort of low rent job I would take nowadays." Which isn't true so wasn't funny to me, but if she was going for something else, it went over my head. I loved the photos of Amy and Tina when they bumped to/from commercials, especially the one of them as puppet elves!
  3. So nice of Matt to take Gentilly out for a meal! Poor little pumpkin, but what a great ending for him. Congrats to the kids for wrangling the fence donations and doing a lot of the work themselves, and to the Jeep Club. I liked that some of the focus this ep was on people: the kids, parolees, and volunteers.
  4. That was a little odd, but then, so is Wil, as portrayed on this show. Is there really a rift in fandom between the two series? I think the booing was mostly for laughs in service of the plot. In my casual experience, people may prefer one or the other but generally like both. I might even go so far as to say that Sheldon at least feels a deeper kinship with Trek, just because of Spock. (And Data, to a lesser extent.) I'll eventually go see The Force Awakens, but no way in hell would I drag my ass out the first night, or even the first week. Obviously I'm not a super fan, but I am female. A co-worker has a second part-time job as manager of a theater and he has been dreading this opening for weeks. Real, actual dread.
  5. You should make that your crucible on whether or not you go out with them again! ;) I think I did see somewhere that the majority of true crime and crime fiction readers are women. (Looked it up -- here's an article from 2014.)
  6. It would probably make an interesting personality quiz: "Which Expanse world are you?" I'm leaning towards Mars at this point. The Martian crew seemed purposeful and organized while Earth is coming off as kind of disreputable and louche. The Belt would make me claustrophic. I was having trouble disassociating headless doctor Shed from his character on Royal Pains, so I'm okay with him being gone.
  7. Sam saying what she did has been described as inconsiderate, rude, thoughtless, selfish or assholic. To me, anyone making a rejoinder in kind would be tarred with the exact same brush. I like Neil very much so far and admire him for being able to take it in stride/rise above it. No need to stoop to her level.
  8. For a second, I almost started to do an online search for "incident on Phoebe".
  9. What do you guys think about Ethan Crouch taking off? Did he ever serve his "unspecified" amount of time in a mental health facility? I guess his mother is taking Alex Kelly's parents as her role models, if she really is on the run with him.
  10. I rarely know/recognize actors from different roles, but that's Greg Bryk! His wife Danielle used to have a design show on HGTV that arose from a series that followed her own renovation of their Victorian house. He's a busy working actor according to his IMDB page but I know him mostly as a great husband and father (or edited to be). I re-watched all four episodes and the three subplots have sorted themselves out better in my mind. I'm the least interested in the political intrigue with Chrisjen's character, but I suppose it does give us the necessary overall picture. I keep changing OPA to OPP in my head, which doesn't help. Not Earth, not Mars, not Belters -- who is controlling those enemy tech ships!? I'll be watching to find out.
  11. Not to let the focus on the main story overshadow other excellent moments: Sheldon praying: "You're good friends with my mom." Leonard, about which movie tickets they're buying: "It's Steel Magnolias 2 -- Even Steelier." Penny and Bernadette thwarting Sheldon's door-knocking compulsion. Amy arranging herself provocatively on the couch when Sheldon's at the door. Bernie, on Sheldon claiming he was ready: "But he also swore this was the year he'd be able to pull the guts out of a pumpkin!" First time we've ever seen Amy's bare legs! I'm also pretty sure Amy would have loved a trip to the Wisconsin Sheep and Wool Festival. Maybe not so much by herself, but it was a nice thought and upgrade from when Sheldon made Alex do Amy's Valentine's Day shopping for him.
  12. Oh, no! NOT HER BOYFRIEND!! I may be getting burned out on crime stories.
  13. Why would you doubt Sheldon's ability to excel? You've had his sourdough bread.
  14. The correspondent pieces are typically not my favorite so it was unfortunate that so much of the year-end show was devoted to them. The North Korea segment was moderately amusing.
  15. I really like that magic has consequences here and that it can be extremely dark and dangerous. Sadly, I'm not expecting the dean to bounce back after having his eyeballs plucked out by headless guy. The students in the class being awake and able to see what was happening but unable to move was fittingly scary. I hope we'll find out why the entire 3rd year (I think?) class has gone missing except for 2 people.
  16. I was nervous, too! I love Amy so much and this could have been really cringeworthy and gross -- it's sexless Sheldon, after all. But it was all very well done. Professor Proton was just the right touch and the tie-in to the actual Star Wars premiere was awesome. Lots of laughs and sweetness. I'm very relieved that Sheldon isn't going to turn into some kind of out-of-character horndog. My only wish is that he would have proposed first!
  17. When Trevor makes American pop culture references I always wonder how much of that stuff was available to him growing up in South Africa. Is he really aware of things like Pop Tarts or The Brady Bunch, or are they just words that the writers put in his mouth? It doesn't matter to me either way, but I am curious about the scope of his knowledge. I think his unfamiliarity with our sports does come through.
  18. Funny panel last night! Justin gave it an extra fillip with his impressions. Chris couldn't stop himself from taking over Justin's Mario accent and running it into the ground, but that's expected now. Also amusing was the chick who couldn't figure out where all her new Twitter followers came from and the baby who looked like a Bond villain. Buzzfeed list: "Nine Pills I Took To Deal With This Christmas Party"
  19. Dog forbid any of the candidates show up without their American flag lapel pin. Because they are patriotic, dammit! Preserve our might! Bomb our many enemies to smithereens! They care about this country! Just not the people in it!
  20. I'm a sucker for (1) time travel stories and (2) characters who have magic in their lives, and this certainly fits the bill for the latter. A Hogwart's graduate school! In Narnia! I liked Quentin and didn't even mind the "female best friend I'm secretly in love with" subtext. Having Julia denied entrance was an interesting twist. Seems like her frustration and anger will take her in interesting directions. I thought it was excellent and am hoping they're able to maintain the momentum. I'm not familiar with the books so any big discrepancies won't bother me.
  21. Judging by her reaction to the water, it seems like Sam's understanding of what "outdoorsy" means is the same as Monet's interpretation of "traditional."
  22. Remember when it was Big News that Clinton went on Arsenio Hall and played the trombone? Can you imagine someone like Eisenhower being a guest on a talk show? I kind of feel sorry for candidates these days, the way they've forced to show us how "regular" they are by participating in idiotic and demeaning bits like this. Okay, so maybe Hillary is able to have comfortable repartee with Fallon or Colbert, but how does that make her presidential? I guess if younger people thought Clinton was cool and voted for him after seeing him on TV, it did work, but most candidates aren't Clinton. I think ultimately, trying to be overly accessible detracts more than it helps.
  23. After an initial feeling of distaste solely because of his beard, so far I'm more drawn to Neil than I have been to any of previous or current men on the show. He has an intelligence about him that's very appealing. Nobody had to tell him where St. Croix was. He's also acting like an adult in his interactions with Sam, with no sulking, temper tantrums, or finger-pointing, Sean. I also like that he's friends with his ex since I am, too. Of course I reserve the right to change my mind if some heretofore hidden and heinous traits begin to reveal themselves!
  24. The general word from reality show participants is that they "forget the cameras are there." But does it happen right away? Because I can't imagine how these couples, who are already dealing with -- as the experts slowly explain to us -- a lot of stress and worry over marrying a stranger, are seemingly so comfortable with camera crews filming them laying in bed with each other in a hotel room after they've just met. It's damned odd.
