  1. Wow they've aged. Haven't we all though ...
  2. What Prince did to the magic cement guy sucked but nothing worse than what Axe has been doing for years. This show has been sucking up to billionaire Bobby and now it's got some conscience about billionaires stomping on little guys? Credibility of the writers is low, to suddenly make Prince a villain and everyone other character, who are all compromised in other ways, suddenly decide they will make some heroic stand against Prince, led by Axe of all people.
  3. Who Mike? They showed events involving their children, like christening his first son.
  4. So is Trishelle according to that link. So that show just uses reality show cast members?
  5. But when is the last time Wes won prize money? Seems like a long, long time ago. He doesn’t strike fear among others in an elimination.
  6. "Financial problems" was probably not the best phrase on my part. But I would imagine after taxes, it covers a few years of living expenses if Chris has no other source of income than appearing on these shows and trying to win prize money. His wife may not be working either if she just gave birth. So he seems to be counting on winning the prize money. Nothing new on the Challenge, people who have young children or are going to have children talk up their money issues. Chris though keeps talking about it. This last episode, he says every day is a $250k decision. He's mentioned "two hundred fifty thousand" several times. More than Corey, more than others who cite money as their motivation. Tori just won and she doesn't have children so she doesn't talk about money a lot. But she's devoted several years now to doing various forms of The Challenge, skipped a chance to pursue a normal career. So she's all-in on earning a living doing this particular show -- don't think she does any other shows, while I just saw a commercial for Bananas doing some other new competitive reality show, forgot the name but it looked dumb, but there's $200k in prize money they said.
  7. Yeah but he's going to turn on his uncle? Not to mention, he was willing to come work for Prince. So he must respect him to a certain extent, but he's ready to stab him in the back? When Prince has mostly treated him as a prized employee and promoted him, right out of school.
  8. Either that or the school where they work is mainly to teach the students English at a highly proficient level, using native speakers as teachers. So he could probably do that for substitute stints, speak to the students, give them some exercises or use lesson plans which teach grammar, spelling, etc.
  9. Taylor has been working for years in the industry, earning a lot of money for the firm and herself. Philip fresh out of college is going to do the same? And then he's going to betray MPC, including his uncle, because Prince screwed over the magic cement guy?
  10. Interview with Paul Holes, originally in August 2022 after his book came out. Holes collaborated with Michelle McNamara, whom he was initially skeptical of. https://www.npr.org/2023/10/06/1203897830/after-a-career-of-cracking-cold-cases-investigator-paul-holes-opens-up Holes gets emotional during the interview when talking about Michelle passing. Talks about how they chased down genetic data and how they narrowed down a list of suspects, determined that they must investigate the possible matches, given age and gender and whether they lived in the area where the crimes occurred. During this part of the interview, I felt a bit uneasy. Holes was retired from the police force when he and Michelle were chasing down possible leads, so they were basically amateur or civilian lobbyists. You wonder what kind of things they did to find out more about the possible suspects, whether they invaded the privacy of some suspects who were innocent, as they narrowed down their list. They dug out a tissue out of DeAngelo's trash to match him genetically to the evidence from the crime scenes. First of all, how did they get access to the crime scene data. Second, is that piece of tissue admissible evidence? Because the police would need probable cause and a court order to search the premises of the suspect. So because these true crime people who wanted to find the killer but also wanted content for their podcasts had suspicion which turned out to be right, they have some right to dig through his trash? What if they had to break into his home to collect evidence? Then the law enforcement agency which arrested the suspect gave Holes a chance to interrogate him. Again, Holes was a civilian at that point so that doesn't seem legal. DeAngelo didn't cooperate with the interrogators and to this day he hasn't said why he committed the crimes. But if DeAngelo had confessed while Holes was taking part in the interrogation, again is that legal procedure? Holes is asked about the true crime craze. He acknowledges that it's kind of an entertainment phenomenon. They don't discuss the money generated by these podcasts and books, including the one he's written. But he says he thinks of the victims, to justify all this activity.

    Fair Play (2023)

"Erotic thriller" = there's some nudity?
  12. I'm not necessarily saying ALL the kids should leave or that they will have better lives if they do. I'm asking why more aren't exploring the possibility of leaving. We've seen stories about small towns, some kids who can't wait to get out. But we see communities like former mining towns or Rust Belt cities. People who are unable or unwilling to leave often have difficult lives. Where did I say "most people leave their home of origin?" I said people take trips and see other places, not leave permanently. I'm going to drop it, because apparently raising some possible critiques of the show is touching a lot of nerves, even though my points seem to be misunderstood or deliberately misread.
  13. I didn’t think Chuck was at that Q&A session, which was suppose to be a limited group of the Owl attendees. If it’s a big deal and makes him unfit to be POTUS, just let it slip that he committed to that stance.
  14. But why was it Daniel's dream to go to California? Could he have wanted to see what it was like outside the reservation? Did he just want to visit or did he aspire to move out there? Yeah some of the kids were seeing this only as a trip, always planning to go back. They didn't have money or plans so they didn't have a chance to see what it would be like living somewhere else. Most people leave home and see a different place for the first time in their lives to be able to say they've done it, that they've seen this different place and return home. But some people have their preconceptions or expectations changed, including maybe thinking about moving. My only point about the the kids leaving wouldn't be about financial success but stability. I'm not saying they have to have money to be happy. In fact some of the happiest people in the world are in poor countries, where they don't even have some of the modern amenities we take for granted, like electricity and running water. However, almost all Americans have experienced issues when they don't have money. People argue or fight about money, including husbands and wives, parents and their children, etc. Money isn't the only cause of stress or tension between people but it's one of the most common ones. And it's something that the show briefly alludes to. When Bear's mother has a chance for a better job, with way more money, they all encourage her to take the job, even if it means leaving her family and community behind. We also see that Teenie is encouraging of Elora going away for college. As for her plans, sure kids all have plans on what they are going to major in and what kind of job they will do. We know often, kids pivot when they go to college, find something else they like and maybe meet friends or get internships which draw them to different places. Maybe Elora follows through on her plans, maybe she doesn't. But when she says she will come back every weekend, that may not be necessarily the best thing for her. It seems like that's a way to deny herself opportunities that college may offer, not to mention socializing with other people, expanding her world. Harjo may well intend that the reservation life is the best and all these kids including Elora will live and work there the rest of their lives. But Harjo himself must have worked outside of Oklahoma or would have to spend most of his career outside a reservation if he plans to keep making movies and shows?
  15. I was rolling my eyes so much when Wags went to talk to Chuck. And everyone in that office lined up as he walked in. Chuck, Wendy, Taylor and Wags had their little Power Rangers Unite! moment before Prince called them in to put down the hammer. Wendy, Wags and Taylor are all worth tens of millions at least, if not more. Prince is denying them their bonuses and personal money invested in MPC funds? They’re still all very rich but I forgot, this is the show where Bobby once gaslit another guy about how his life was going to suck because he was only going to have $150 million, how his wife and children were going to suffer. Chuck somehow knows Prince would use a first-strike nuke, which is what Prince told some supposedly important guy. Kind of on the nose since it was a private gathering and Chuck wasn’t even there. But Wendy also thinks Prince would be among the worst authoritarian in history, as if she’s a precog. Well among the bad things Prince has actually done, ruining that magic concrete guy, now we can add that he spies on his employees. They could go to the media with these stories, Prince strong-arms some inventor, spies on people. That would hurt a candidate, especially a third party one, especially a rich one. I don’t even remember that doctor character, what he did, how Chuck screwed him over. The writing has been so bad. It was never great but seems like Succession, which was an interesting show about the ultra rich, broke these writers because it drew all this attention and acclaim, coming along after Billions was the first to explore this territory.
  16. It’s a challenge to walk across the street in Hanoi, never mind driving a moped through the intense traffic there if you’ve never driven one before. The house they chose was great for the view and all the places seemed to have comparable amenities. House 1, they said there was nothing but in one of the wide shots, not only were there other high rises but a cluster of smaller buildings which looked like a business district. Probably tough to make a good income doing wildlife or even street photos. So they probably work at a school where Western expats send their children or maybe affluent Vietnamese send their kids to get them Westernized education.
  17. Shep said on WWHL that Taylor’s previous job required 6 month notice to get one day off. So he helped her get her current job where she makes more money. Maybe now she will do a branded fruity cocktail since her job seems like the same one Austen was doing touting beers to bars. Speaking of which, if he’s such an entrepreneur, why hasn’t he tried anything else since Trop Hop? Because apparently Bravo pays him enough for this dreck of a show.
  18. Josh cried. Again. Cassidy was pissed. Again. Fessy brags about his fitness and in the next shot is bent over throwing up or gasping for air. Johnny says he’s mapping out the fort, as if nobody else was doing the same. Then he takes Miachela’s word that there are only two pieces in that tunnel? Why would he trust her, she’s not in his alliance and among women, Tori and Michelle would both be closer allies. Not so sure this Daily was some triumph of psyops by the Survivor alliance. Everyone probably was for a woman’s elimination since there was one more woman than men. Maybe hoping this was the last Daily and Elimination before the Final. So Chris probably was burning his vote on Josh rather than Fessy, his #1 target.
  19. Besides, this show rode the Thomas and Cathryn relationship, if one wants to call it that, for several seasons. So 14 years is nothing!
  20. I'd like to see other depictions of reservation life. This is the first one I can recall watching. Harjo himself has obviously looked for opportunities beyond the reservation and the success of this show should open up new projects for him. BTW, he talks with Chris Ryan and Andy Greenwald a bit. They discuss among other things how he decided to plot the last season.
  21. It just seemed like they chased going to California for most of the first two seasons, then they get out there and turn back soon. So there's the possibility of a life in the wider world but in the end, all of them return to the reservation, seem fated to live the rest of their lives there except Elora. Yes they will be supported by good people. But they likely will face financial challenges most of their lives. Bear's mother got a chance to leave behind job insecurity and her friends urged her to take the job even if it means leaving the reservation. She's in her 40s when she may be able to start building some financial security. Not sure why she wouldn't take Bear with her. It would be difficult leaving behind his friends and community but people do that all the time, to pursue opportunities which may not be available where they were living.
  22. Even Taylor says in her TH, "were they ever together?" And now even Whitney, who hasn't been seen with any of the others this season until Austen and later Shep and Madison showed up, is asking about the supposed hook up, says fluids were exchanged. He's probably thinking "this is the best they could come up with to drive drama this season, I should quit except for that easy producer money." JT talking about the "masculine" style of his renovations.😒 All these cast members, they have nothing else going on, or at least nothing interesting enough to show, so they're all going to chat about the hookup or triangle or whatever it is. Taylor has a après snow theme party in Charleston? Never been but pretty sure a coastal southern city doesn't have much downhill skiing. That drink luge was disgusting and yeah herpes for sure from the cold sores on the lips.
  23. I’m not saying people can’t be close-knit as depicted. But stats suggest some bleak aspects of life on reservations. Money problems stress Americans so I’m wondering if they don’t cause similar issues for people who live on reservations. It’s certainly Harjo’s prerogative if he doesn’t want to depict the sad aspects of reservation life. But maybe viewers need to understand the context.
  24. Why would they tote all that stuff for the weird game? And she goes camping but she can’t quit Danny. Meanwhile Veggie is going to propose. It’s odd, after half the season or more than half the season, the two main characters, who supposedly are meant for each other, have never been in the same scene together, meaning never in the same room, same place. Yet each have interacted in person with many other people. Is this really about two close friends who could become a couple or just a long commercial for FaceTime?
  25. UK dating show where a picker chooses among potential dates as they’re revealed from the feet up. It’s been on the air for 6 seasons and Max put all six seasons on a couple of weeks ago. Show is one of the most popular on the service currently. As one might expect it’s caused a stir with some conservative groups labeling it pornography. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwiL2Kui4N-BAxWQBzQIHXcfAbMQvOMEKAB6BAgjEAE&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theguardian.com%2Ftv-and-radio%2F2023%2Foct%2F04%2Fnaked-attraction-dating-show-us&usg=AOvVaw0WFdB9jYPEhSHEy-eMrMA1&opi=89978449
