S13.E08: Family & Friends & Feelings, Oh My!

Agreed. I actually dislike him more than any of them. I don't think he's that great looking and I'm not seeing this engaging personality either just smiles. Not to mention, he sure does love to talk about his glory years in college where he seems stuck. I don't fault him for not being attracted to Bao. But bitch, if you aren't attracted to her why are you complaining that she's not kissing you passionately? The thing is both of them could put their expectations to the side, not push the romance, and just do things in a "get to know each other" way. Go out on dates, take the pressure off. This is what I thought Bao was doing. She's not trying to jump his bones. She's not being pushy. She's trying to let it grow naturally. He seems really petty, really immature, and not nearly as hot as he thinks he is. I hope she divorces him over the giddy comments. I think her boobs are her calling card, it's what gets her noticed, it's what males have fixated on since she first sprouted them. Meanwhile, they are going to be hanging to her knees in 5 years if she doesn't put a bra on them. -

So turns out Myrla has a good savings account and pays off her debt every month. And Gil has money he can't access (did he say b/c it goes straight into a 401k? I'm all for putting in the max but if you have no savings to access when you need it, you probably need to reevaluate your spending levels or whether you can't max out the contributions just yet) So if Myrla really is squared away financially, then she can spend her disposable income no matter how she wants. I mean, I still don't understand spending 1K on shoes with a red sole just so everyone knows you spent a lot, but if she's paying her bills and is saving, more power to her. -
True. That said, I feel pretty confident that if Gil spends his disposable income on expensive dog-related items and other things he wants, but does not upgrade her engagement ring, Myrla will have something to say about how he spends his money.

I had no idea! And if that's you in the above pic, your hair is awesome and your handle fits! You loo great!
-
LOL, I do remember that! And his bride was not thrilled with the living at grandma sitch. And wondered about the hat collection!
-
She's in education I would argue she's made a career out of helping others too.
-
Ah, that sucks! In my state, FFs and LE tend to get really good benefits that make up for their salary not being incredibly high. It's an incentive to recruit and to keep them.
-
Oh yeah, he's definitely being a prick about it. He's putting her down for it b/c he can't afford it. That said, typically firefighters get excellent benefits, so there's a lot to be said about that!

She def judged his 80s obsession, but you're right -- it was just thought of as weird, not in terms of the money that he spent. It could be that he also owns a home and one pair of CL's would buy a lot of the the kitschy 80s stuff. I don't know. I'm biased. I'm not one to spend my money on $1000K shoes just to impress someone into thinking I must earn a lot. I suspect if there was a $1000K pair of shoes that had no designer identification to it and no one would be able to detect they are expensive shoes, she wouldn't buy it. The reason for the spend is everyone sees the red sole and knows they were expensive.
-
She definitely does. I think part of the reason I'm judging her for how she spends is that her place looks not great and it makes me suspect that she does that well in life. If her place was glamorous looking, I'd assume she can afford her closet of shoes. Since it doesn't, it makes me think her priorities are to *look* like she's making a huge salary. Like some of the people i grew up with that drive around in fancy cars, have fancy watches, designer clothing, but live in their parent's basement. it's one thing when you're very wealthy to buy expensive shoes, but it seems odd to me to have a closet full of these shoes and designer clothing when the place you live in -- esp in Texas where you can buy homes cheaply -- looks like a shoebox. A lot easier to get a credit card and max it out to buy your designer shit than getting a mortgage for a nice place.
-
Good points. I'm thinking back to when I was working my way up in my industry and I had the max taken out of my paltry salary for my 401k and when I was 30 and I had a better 401k total than him. Now, I only owned one property, so maybe he doesn't put the max in in his 401k in order to pay for the second property? I don't know I just was a little surprised given what my salary was back then and what my 401k amassed to when I was 30. The way he talks about his financial sitch, I had expected a lot more.

Am I the only one here that thinks it's perfectly acceptable for the husband/wives not to kiss, hold hands, or do anything intimate with their spouse? Choosing to be on this show doesn't mean you should forced to be intimate -- even if that means a kiss. If a woman goes on a blind date, she's not required to do anything even remotely sexual. The same applies here. These people -- with the exception of Bao and Johnny -- are strangers. They can kiss, slurp, fuck, whenever they are ready for it. What's funny to me is I don't find 81K all that impressive at his age, especially when he is talking like he's moneybags.

Is the header "Monthly Expenses" a misnomer? Because he's got $81K in monthly expenses? Or is he saying that's what's currently in all accounts.

Real Housewives in the Media

*Dies laughing!* Thank you for the giggle! -
If I was set up with a guy who lived in what looked like a shoebox and not a nice one, but had a closet full of pairs of $900+ shoes, designer clothing, and extravagant spending habits, I'd be questioning his priorities and how much of an impulsive shopper he is and whether our lifestyles would match. I'm questioning whether she can really afford her luxuries based on the place she lives. It's a lot easier to get a credit card and max than it is to qualify for a rent/mortgage for a nice place. Maybe she's frugal on other things. Gil's place doesn't look like much either, but maybe he's saving his money for a better one. Gil should shut it tho when it comes to "princess" and "diva" comments. I'm sure those supposedly playful jabs (I don't think they are playful) are him feeling bad that he is a FF who likely isn't going to have the earning potential I suppose that she does. He's always going to be more frugal about how he spends his money.

Meanwhile, both of them are where they are b/c of who they married and the lifestyle provided to them by their husbands. What exactly do they bring to the table for a fishing instructor now other than their fame through reality TV? I think both of them need to consider the fact they aren't spring chicken enough for most white collar multi's now. -
I agree. The way she's reacting to this tells me all you need to know. I think she's still pissed he had COVID-19 and left. My goodness imagine someone being mad at you b/c you did the right thing to quarantine yourself to not get the other person sick? She seems to have a lot of issues. She strikes me as the person who always has a lot of drama surrounding her.
-
Maybe that's just the way she reacts when she is happy and it isn't a trait she wants to drop. I can't imagine drawing a negative from someone's giddy-ness. I hope he gets divorced and marries the nastiest shrew ever and thinks back on the time he shit on someone else's joy.
-
I don't know -- when we get nervous about something, we can react differently than our usual selves. I mean, this is forced intimacy -- she is still trying to get to know him and build a foundation before the mad passionate sex.

I'm one of those heathens that showers in the morning. A shower at night would wake me up. I learned through Mindy and Zach's season that I'm disgusting. ;) I would think there'd be some thought by these youngsters that showering 2-3 times every day is wasting water? Not to mention harsh on your skin, hair?
-
If something were to happen between them, it would've happened a long time ago. Not that a spark couldn't happened now that they are older and I suppose wiser (well, she is), but I don't think Johnny was ever attracted to her and probably never will be. Unless she's in bed with him. I also just don't believe Johnny was ever the ladies man he loves to brag he is. He seems to have some need to make everyone around him think he's this frat boy, fun, partying guy and I just feel like he's playing a role. I bet he's extremely insecure and this is all an act. Bao, you can do better. I mean fuck, I can't even imagine telling someone that their giddyiness was a turn-off. Seriously fuck that guy.
-
She reminds me of people who Iive in a shithole or in their parent's basement but have luxury cars and designer duds because they want to project the image of being successful. She may do well for herself as a consultant/coach, but her home doesn't match her need for luxury, so maybe all her dough goes to wardrobe/eyelashes? I don't know -- some of her shoes are almost a mortgage payment/rent. I could afford her shoes, but I'd find it a complete waste of money.

I seriously can't believe she has a uniboob. And is proud of them. -

I don't think they are good ones either -- they aren't huge but they sit far away from each other and look like tennis balls to me. -

This was at least a much better episode and Eboni's LuAnn impersonation was great. It was also nice to see her having fun. Imagine how different this season would've felt if we just saw Eboni having fun. Have we ever seen Bershawn wearing a hat like Sonja did? At first I got offended thinking it looked too much like a pimp hat.
