  1. People shouldn't have to avoid all social media just to avoid seeing major spoilers. It isn't that hard to not put the details of last night's big reveal on the main page of a general entertainment site, or to not discuss specifics of an unrelated show/movie/book in the forum for an entirely different show/movie/book. People do go to general sites for info on other topics, and shouldn't have to stay away completely. For example, if I want to read about the latest hot new movies, or the latest Game of Thrones news, I should be able to go to EW's main page without being spoiled about shows I haven't yet watched. That said, I've learned over the last year or so which places to avoid, and further, if I go to the actual forum for a particular show without having seen the most recent episode, I deserve what I get.
  2. It's particularly annoying when one character is the other character's boss. Businesses have policies against this for a reason. (And yet, I still have trouble breaking the GA habit.)
  3. I'm one of those people who do make an effort to avoid spoilers most of the time, but even I think that once a show has finished its run, I have no business expecting others not to talk about plot points. I figure that I should've watched it at the time if I was that concerned about being unspoiled.
  4. I wasn't in the same room as my tv and mis-heard the year, so I also guessed Greyhound, although that did seem wrong to me. I might've gotten the right answer if I'd had the right year, but then again, maybe not. I just wasn't thinking about airlines at all.
  5. Who knows what Hipsters will be into next? Maybe they'll start wearing two pairs of socks at one time! (Hey, maybe I should start investing in hosiery futures.) Idk, I'm just not sure enough people would bother voting for any contestant as a protest. Not anymore. And now I'm off to buy up sock stocks.
  6. I don't blame all the grandmas. Who knows? Maybe it's hipsters in their twenties voting for him? Good for you - if I bothered to vote, he'd be getting mine.
  7. I don't honestly think he is. I think he appeals to a certain demographic (tweens & grandmas, maybe?) who are just more inclined to bother voting. And I can't really complain too much about him, or anyone else, making it through because I can't be arsed to make the effort to vote myself.
  8. Simon was awful to her, and the way he treated Mandisa in her season was even worse. He obviously hates heavier women, because he frequently made unnecessary reference to their weight, albeit sometimes more subtly than others. How Melinda managed to escape that, I'll never know. Candace wouldn't have stood a chance had he still been a judge. Oh, and to the person commenting on Quentin's jacket, it looked like felted wool to me, although I could be wrong about that. I'm really digging his style. It's very different from what I usually like, but I just can't wait to see what he'll wear next.
  9. Okay, well, I did not Remember the Maine. I love mustard in its many varieties, and yet, I have no idea what is in it. So not only did I learn about the turmeric from Jeopardy, I learned about the vinegar from you. Thanks, Bastet. :-)
  10. From the recap: I call coffee mugs "cups" all the time. A lot of people use the two terms interchangeably, including pretty much everyone I know. And the sad thing is, I was more concerned with pointing this out than I was with anything that happened during the episode. Except for Alex, this episode sucked. I missed the last 2 or 3 eps due to American Idol, and after watching this one, I can see I missed absolutely nothing worth bothering about. Except Alex, of course, but then, he only gets one or two scenes per show anyway. Is it bad that I was hoping Alex's patient would die, just because Meredith was being a smug, arrogant, reckless asshat?
  11. Not trying to be rude, but who? I really don't know who that is/was.
  12. Oh dear god. I'm kinda sorry to have missed what surely would've been one hell of an entertaining train wreck.
  13. Um, Boy George and George Michael are two different people. George Michael performed on the finale for Season 7. I don't think Boy George has been on AI before (although I didn't watch the first 5 seasons, so I could be wrong about that).
  14. They tried last week but the judges wouldn't let them.
  15. The Hoff? Dear god, AI, please don't ever do that to me again. Why couldn't Boy George have performed solo instead??? Speaking of whom, he was a really good mentor and gave the contestants sound advice. Not all of them took it, and for some it wouldn't have mattered anyway, but it's no surprise that, for the most part, last night was better than last week. The contestants, in no particular order: Daniel - That did not sound good to my ears, but I suspect he'll still be there next week. Quentin - His pitch was better, although that wasn't my favorite performance of his. Still, he is mesmerizing. Nick - That was much better for him. There seemed to be more emotional connection to the song, and better connection with the audience. And vocally, he was strong as always. Jax - The judges were right about her getting lost in the band, and she should've kept it just piano, but I really liked it overall. Kind of had a Patti Smith/Because The Night vibe. (Not that Jax is that good.) Tyanna - That was such an improvement from last week. It was youthful and upbeat, and really suited her. I was afraid she'd been one of the two eliminated after last week's horrible performance; thank goodness she wasn't. Joey - Okay, now I get what others have been saying about Joey's quirkiness being too much. There was a moment, late in the song, where it got kinda reggae-like, and I wish the whole song had been like that. But she's still one of my favorites. Clark - For me, that was the best performance of the night. He was wise to stay at the piano, since that really added to the haunting quality of the song. And Keith's right, it wasn't as stalkery as Sting's original, but the pain was still there. Rayvon - Jeez, he really does make everything into a slow (boring) jam, doesn't he? And his pitch was all over the place. By far his worst performance, and one which should send him home. I'd rather have heard what Adanna had planned, and I don't particularly like her. Qaasim - If anything, this proved that, no, Qaasim, you are not a vocalist. You are just a performer with a mediocre voice. I was in the kitchen, and only heard (not watched) that performance, and while he sounded in tune, his voice was weak. Really the only time he has ever sounded at all good to me was that mentoring session with Boy George. What a waste of the save. Not really sorry to see Maddie & Adanna go. They were filler. Although I'd love to know what song Adanna's Minnie Mouse hooker outfit was intended to complement. Best of the night: Clark, by a landslide Should go: Daniel or Qaasim Will go: Rayvon or Qaasim (or maybe Joey, although I hope not)
  16. From the description (however accurate it might be) from IMDB: In their new overseas home, an American family soon finds themselves caught in the middle of a coup, and they frantically look for a safe escape in an environment where foreigners are being immediately executed. Not sure why the revolt, or why OW's family is there in the first place, but this at least explains a little bit, I guess. And they are doing a little more than just watching it go down. How much more is anybody's guess.
  17. I feel your pain. I love clementines, and hate Halos. But I wouldn't run all over town either; I'd just suffer.
  18. You are correct. And Michelangelo's is the most famous one, especially after some nutjob attacked it with a hammer (I believe) a few years ago. His Mary does look younger than Jesus, but I atttribute that to Jesus being dead after having been crucified.
  19. To be fair, there are plenty of brands other than Halos or Cuties. Ones that don't have horrible brats doing the advertising. My local stores just had Sunkist on sale, and I didn't have to subsidize evil spawn to eat them. (Oh, and they were actually from Morocco, too.)
  20. I think Nan realized that, and Ginny probably did too, but she really was caught up in her own fantasy about Seadown. Poor deluded girl.
  21. Well, that would be my inclination, but given some of the answers they've accepted recently, I probably could make an argument for them accepting it. ("Guthrie" anyone?)
  22. I mostly watch NCIS on USA reruns, and vastly prefer the first two seasons (although I do like the most recent seasons with Bishop and don't even mind Ziva too much at the beginning before every episode was more Daddy/Mossad/Tiva angst), but no matter how often they run stuff from Kate's seasons, I have never managed to see the episode where she gets killed. Not that I'm looking forward to that, but for completion's sake, I do want to see it. I really miss the vibe of the show when Kate was there, less sexual tension and more humor.
  23. When I first read the new title, my brain saw "The Jane Austen Fight Club", which would be awesome, but very mannerly. Indeed she is. And who can hate on a movie that has Naveen Andrews as the Indian MC Hammer? lol
  24. I said neurosurgeon - I wonder if they would've accepted that?
  25. This is pretty much the only performance of Keira Knightley's that I think is actually good. Parminder Nagra is terrific, and really deserved more of a career afterwards.
