  1. I choked on my tea when Rachel started quoting 'Beauty and the Beast' lyrics at the end of another stellar Court Transcript reading. It was her meekness that slayed me. "Neither one prepared!"
  2. Chris is good enough at wrangling real-person live interviews (as opposed to pols/experts/talking heads) that I guess the suits trust him with a non-delayed live show? That's a skill of his I admire most, it's so rare.
  3. I used to seriously dislike Romola Garai as an actor. She used to have a bunch of amateurish, drama-school acting tics that drove me nuts. But she's been at it a while now (and has done tons of stage work, which undoubtedly develops one's chops), and has definitely improved. I now find I like the intensity she brings to roles and the lack of showiness she's honed. When I was a tourist in the Netherlands, one of the things that tour guides mentioned was the habit of houses having big picture windows that didn't have drapes. Because passers-by were expected to look in and admire your Fine Dutch Furnishings. In fact, when I was on a walking tour of Hoorn, we passed this fairly normal building as its occupant arrived home. He was completely at ease with us gawping inside, even inviting us in for a quick look! Can you even imagine inviting a gaggle of tourists ad hoc into your living room?!? Anyway, I was tickled to see this theme featured in the show here, when Marin insists that the bride is meant to be on view to passers-by, and that curtains must never be drawn during the day, lest people think they 'have something to hide.'
  4. It all depends on the method you choose for enforcing the NDA. (By which I mean Murder.) Michael Fabian increasingly looks like Michael Douglas (with better teeth). I liked all the upside-down camera work in the piñata room.

He's lucky he's not Serena Williams, right?
  6. A smart black man who works with other offenders is just the kind of dude that terrifies the likes of Rick Scott. He might be (GASP!) an organizer! He might marshal forces to elect more Ds to the state house! Deny that man his franchise! Dude can't be replaced soon enough. Post-felon rights in my state (NY) have improved lately. Back in the Obama era, there were a few more hoops to jump through, judge-wise (but nothing like FL). Now, it's automatic (but you have to re-register) once you're on probation or done with parole, and the governor has been issuing decrees for folks still on parole granting restoration (depending on the offense). Space Mice Drilling is the name of my next band.
  7. Another way-back watcher here. I for one still adhere to the TRMS cocktail moment on Friday nights. By Friday, FSM knows I need a drink (or seven). Happy 10!!
  8. Kerry's full head of hair gets less and less congruous with his melting old-face every day. [/shallow]. He did cheer me up talking about how the Paris accords are being adhered to at (most) local levels, though.
  9. Even as I appreciate his not (publicly) caring about variations in pronunciation, come on. We all learned how to pronounce 'schwarzenegger', we can all manage 'RosenstINE'.
  10. Disagree pretty hard with this. Kim could have gotten David's case thrown out, based on what-his-name's improper handling of the case. She instead negotiated some punishment for him, which shows she thinks he bears responsibility. Anyway the point of a defense attorney isn't so much to make angels of their clients, it's to hold the prosecutors to the standards set forth by law. You wanna throw somebody in jail, depriving them of their freedom? You gotta come correct. Every defendant deserves zealous representation, regardless of their low-life-ness. Doing so protects all of us.

I stubhubbed my way into today's YvTigers game. Merry Cutchmas, me!
  12. I know it's because I'm an old, but I'm continually amazed at the quality and scoopiness of NB's reporting. Because she looks to me like she's still in middle school! Maybe people spill to her because they underestimate her. They really shouldn't.
  13. Whyyyy did Chris have to keep saying 'judenfrei' with a hard J sound? I mean, I don't expect him to bust out a German accent, but there's no reason not to pronounce it with the proper Y sound. Also, I would really like it if All In played fewer clips of the orange menace. I don't think they want me to be muting their program for a quarter of the show, as I did tonight.
  14. I've been worn down by the promos for the WITH podcast, and started listening to some of them. You guys, they're pretty honking good. Like I start one and think, ehhhh that's gonna be dry, and then it's super interesting and the guest is interesting and engaging, and Chris gets to swear, and I learn a thing or two. Imagine that!
  15. On the other hand, adding cameras would certainly lead to participants playing to them, which is (imo) undesirable. Think of Ito.
  16. I have no doubt that Jimmy was indeed imagining himself as Steve McQueen. I love that Mike has an auditor's heart. No mistake gets by him, no matter the context. This is not a quality I have. I sometimes wish I did, and sometimes I'm glad I don't.
  17. That was the thing that struck me most (besides the pecker-puns. I love them.) It's like they got hold of the acrid Orange's day planner, and just pasted over HRC's image and name.

So, Daniel Murphy had a Cubbies presser, and it could have gone better. Dude, nobody saw that Q coming? Must be nice in that baseball bubble.
  19. I agree; Charlie is way better in print (incl. twitter) than he is on camera.
  20. I actually didn't like Lanny fanboi-ing, at least in this context. I guess because he wasn't there for an 'explainer' type visit, but rather an 'explain yourself, sir!' visit. Buttering up the interviewer is, in this case, kind of obnoxious and manipulative. "Oh, I love you [subtext ' we're on the same side, go easy on me']". If Chuck or Barbara did the same thing, it would be adorable, I hasten to add. But in this context, my shoulders went up around my ears. Have I said 'context' enough in this post? yeesh.
  21. The handoff from Chris was especially charming. "THOSE KINDS OF JOKES AREN'T FUNNY!" The news gods do not GAF.

Daniel Murphy apparently needs to get out more. Mets invited out-player Billy Bean to the clubhouse, and Daniel "disagrees with his lifestyle. I do disagree with the fact that Billy is a homosexual." As if one's sexual orientation is OPEN FOR PUBLIC DEBATE, FFS. Grow up, Daniel.
  25. "I'm not going to divorce you, Luisa, you can stay and do all the child care I can't be arsed to do. That's a good deal for you, right, undocumented person?" And there I was feeling a smidge of sympathy for Cole. Nopenopenope! I do enjoy that at least one person in every ep (in which he appears) calls him 'Noah Fucking Solloway.' It just feels right.
