Yes, I love when Marcus has that glint in his eye when he sees young talent. One of the winners of this show Craig Johnston is now the Head Chef of Marcus's Michelin starred restaurant and has been working for him since he won like 4-5 years ago. I've found that skills test is weighed about 25-40% on the final judging in the first round. If the chef aces their own dish in some way (great cooking, originality, how they work), it can eclipse their skills test. Monica and Marcus were generally more forgiving about the nerves in the first test. They understand that these chefs are not use to being filmed and interviewed this way. It's basically an extreme audition for cooking. I still need to catch up and only watching here and there. I'll likely binge most of it at Christmas.

Egg rolls in North America are Chinese-American cuisine which is not the same as Chinese cuisine from China (which itself encompasses many styles). They were developed by Chinese Americans in the early 20th century for the North American market. The WIki article has a succinct history. No one knows why egg is part of the name because traditionally most Asian rolls don't have egg. Agreed not baked goods!

Donen and Hepburn made three movies together: Funny Face, Charade, and Two for the Road. He said she was one of his favourite actresses and both him and Billy Wilder loved working with her. He really understood her as an actor because while Funny Face and Charade have similarities, the tones and characters of the three movies are different. Audrey Hepburn's costars were almost always older and in some cases, much older than her, but I think the age difference is less noticeable here. They changed the script to her being the pursuer, but I think Audrey's image had matured a lot in the end of the 50s. When they made this movie she was about 31 and she had her first son. Also Gary Grant is so playful here and in general that it never felt to me he was too old for her.

A touching moment for me is "The Return of Martin Crane" which looks back to when Martin was shot and working for the first time after it. The ending kills me. Martin tells the boys to shut up because they are having a silly fight and after they apologize, the tells them he is going to work and will be home late. He kisses them both on the cheek. It was beautiful.

Blast chillers exist but like in North America, they aren't commonly used at home due to expense and space. The contestants are given the challenges and the time constraints weeks/months ahead so they would have been able to practice at home with their normal freezers. Not everyone has a proofing or warming drawer but you can replicate one by using a an oven with the light bulb on. While room temp can be cooler, it really varies by time of year as it can be very humid in the warmer months.

I love this movie and it's one of the earliest ones I remembered watching as a kid. I didn't even know the name of it for awhile but I always remembered the twist which inspired a mild philately phase as a kid. Audrey Hepburn remains one of my favourite actors because of this movie and others. Cary Grant said they had a lot of fun making this movie and you can actually tell based on their banter and chemistry. They did a remake of it which I read was really bad and as much as I like Thandie Newton, I don't think I'll ever watch it especially since the original is so fun. Stanley Donen did a great job of directing this and really showed his range as a director since he mostly made musicals before. I find rewatching some Hitchcock movies now difficult or impossible because of the director's reputation. I am grateful that so far Donen and this movie remains relatively uncontroversial. I rarely rewatch movies and this is one of my exceptions. Reminds me I should put it on again soon :)

This is episode S07.18 "Hot Pursuit" which has one of my favourite Roz and Frasier moments. I really liked how Roz challenged Frasier. I liked him when he was around her, but I like that they didn't get together. There are some friendships between men and women which have chemistry and even acknowledgement of attraction but it's just better to remain friends. All because you are attracted and care about someone doesn't necessarily mean you two would really be good in a committed romantic relationship. While I think Roz and Frasier loved each other, I just couldn't see them lasting a long time if they got together. I liked Roz's ending too as well.

Rowan is nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns. As defined in the GLAAD guidelines, they are a they, were a they, and will be a they unless they ever tell us something different. Per those guidelines, referring to them as a woman or a girl or as she is not okay, regardless of any modifier placed before these words or the time period being discussed. Intent matters and people may slip up. Let's strive to respect their identity. Please review the guidelines of the site regarding the Hate Speech and Insensitive Language Policy, which includes guidelines from GLAAD for the LGBTQ+ community. Also remember the Golden Rule of Primetimer is Be Civil. Thank you.

Series 14 started recently and I'm catching up now. I haven't watched very seriously since Series 11 but I wanted to see how Dara Ó Briain manages. I was also familiar with Sarah Millican. John, Fern, and Munya are newish to me. John is the sad sack contestant of this season. I was laughing with tears during the end of the S14E02 studio task.
