This Celeb edition was the first time that I really thought about how much help the contestants of the Celeb edition probably gets. A lot of the celebs admitted to not having cooked much pre-Covid and some of them probably would not have gone on the show if they had other ventures to do. This show was one of the few reality shows that was filming and had good measures during the UK lockdowns. I think the Celebs (and likely the regular edition, less so the Pros) get a pre-taping training course and/or guides on kitchen safety and what happens in a kitchen like this. There are a lot of things where they move around the room with cameras and other cooks which can be dangerous so they would need to be briefed on it. I think most of the celebs come up with the ideas for their recipes but there is a home economist who suggests ideas, tips, or changes. Some of their recipes and concepts came off as really refined for people who also admitted to not having a huge interest in food until recently. I don't think this was the case for all of them, but some probably leaned on the crew more in that way.

Bubble had a strong Lancashire accent. Lancashire is not too far north of Liverpool.

Same. I think Lizzie's accent is one of the thicker scouse accents I've heard in awhile (having not lived the UK for many years) and especially on TV. Paul Hollywood has a scouse or scouse adjacent accent. Even when talking to Lizzie, he said a couple words more scouse than usual. The Pru / Maggie similarities in their older RP way of speaking and they are probably two of the poshest and oldest people on set. I liked Noel's chimney sweep comment because that summed it up exactly.

Lizzie has a scouse / Liverpool accent. The scouse accent has been heavily influenced by the Irish accent and other ones owning it to being a port city.

Tidying Up With Marie Kondo - General Discussion
Athena replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Tidying Up With Marie Kondo
In the last couple of years, I've offered things to my local Buy Nothing group (often on Facebook) first before donating to a charity shop or Goodwill. Freecycle is a similar concept which I used years ago as well. There are also trading groups and apps. It's surprising what people offer up. In my group a lot of people offer excess food as well as other goods. People start travelling bags of clothing, nail polish, jewellery, craft supplies, beauty samples, etc. I've even seen someone taking old computers and laptops, working on them by adding new hardware and software, and then donating to local families with kids who are doing remote learning. Basically if no one wants it there, I think no sweat, then I donate, or if required, recycle/trash it. At least I've tried because I agree that just putting it in the trash is difficult. I also receive from these groups as well mostly in random kitchen things and consumables (lately, it's been hand sanitizer). I still go to a thrift store as well. I don't buy as much but I have bought games or puzzles there and often re-donate it back. -

Agreed. Edith's 1920s wardrobe is the one I remember most from this show especially all the ones she wore on her dates with Gregson and Bertie. I also felt that the writing and the acting eclipsed Mary's a lot at the end. After she was widowed, Mary's whole arc really descended including her styling. Compare: Photos from screenrant.

Nice article. I did not find it surprising that Jock is full of BS. I don't like MPW and he definitely has his strangeness and issues, but I find it hilarious that Jock would publish a memoirs detailing how close they were. MPW never seemed warm but he did know talent and several of his protégés are successful in the UK and abroad with lots of Michelin stars. Jock would be more well known if MPW did adore him as much as the memoirs claimed. I can't imagine MPW telling Jock that they would go fishing. Pure fiction. The drug stuff is a lot of self-mythologizing. I don't really care or believe it but whatever, Jock.

The Great Pottery Throw Down - General Discussion
Athena replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Great Pottery Throw Down
This show and Great British Bake off are made by the same production company: Love productions. When GBBO returned last autumn, there were a couple articles on how they achieved it. You can read one here. In general, all the non-mystery challenges are told to the contestants before the series ever starts. This has always been the case. Even if someone doesn't make Week 7, they are told the challenges because they need to tell the production what tools and supplies are needed. The production prepares for it. They also sent the contestants of GBBO practice supplies (due to the flour shortage last year) so I think they probably did something similar too for Pottery Throw Down and the Sewing Bee. It also sounds like they are allocated time to practice when they were in quarantine. -
Begins Sunday July 11.

Media: The Scandalous Lives of Manhattan's Elite
Athena replied to paulvdb's topic in Gossip Girl (2021)
Vulture's been hyping it up. It has an article on the development of the show and Safran's return and direction for it. It's also got a Who's Who comparing the original cast vs the new one.
