  1. I'm honestly just so thrilled for them. Absolutely amazing that a team who were newly promoted and battled relegation the season before this one have pulled this off. That match between Chelsea and Spurs, though? What an awful way to end the title race. Spurs should've had three or four players sent off - I can't believe Walker, Lamela and Dier all stayed on. I'm with ganesh, Clattenburg let the game get completely out of hand.
  2. I basically bawled my way through the reporting that day. Finally. I wish Anne Williams had still been alive to see it. So, Leicester need two more points to win the league, unless Tottenham drop points against Chelsea tomorrow. A part of me wants Leicester to win it while they're at least playing themselves, but I also just want it done and dusted for them, so... For once I'm going to have to root for Chelsea. The less said about Liverpool's performance today, the better. They were obviously already thinking about Villareal on Thursday.
  3. Saw it tonight and was - well, a bit disappointed. Is reaction without concrete plot points spoilers? I'll spoiler tag just in case.
  4. I finally got around to watching Zootopia, and there were a few real laugh-out-loud moments - among other things, the shrew wedding where it looks normal (so to speak) at first sight, and then you get a wide shot and the whole party is taking place on a small platform with the polar bear bodyguards just standing in a circle around it. Not to mention my very favourite thing, the reveal of the streetracer in that last scene. I laughed so hard at that guilty face.
  5. One thing I always enjoy is when Hitchcock and Scully get to be useful simply by being their own terrible selves. Hitchcock getting them to the hospital in what I can only assume was record time because he has nothing to live for and drives like it? Brilliant. Also loved Terry trying to break Bob by talking about Bob's hypothetical daughter looking at him with hypothetical tears in her hypothetical eyes, heh. Man, I'm really going to miss this show until next season.
  6. I freaking love The Emperor's New Groove. I seem to remember it was deemed pretty subpar when it came out? Sure, maybe it's not the most emotionally resonant Disney flick, but I honestly think it's one of the funniest. "WRONG LEVEEEEeeeeer!" "Why do we even HAVE that lever?"
  7. There was a bit I loved, because it showed that Howard definitely isn't just Chuck's puppet but has his own agenda: he totally played Chuck to get him to come to that meeting. He tells Chuck that Kim is "pooling her resources with Jimmy", which Chuck of course takes as them going in as partners, and Howard doesn't correct him. He knows full well that's not what it is; Kim told him they were doing separate practises and he called it smart. But he also knows Chuck couldn't stand to let Jimmy get one over on him; he knows Chuck will brave electricity and do everything he can to stop that from happening, so he lets Chuck think what he needs to think to get it done. Smart. Evil, but smart. That scene may not have shown us anything we didn't already know about Chuck, but it showed Howard to be cleverer than I thought.
  8. When he said that I had time to think "Oh dude, uncool!" before he added that Rosa had called dibs on Boyle (or 'Chuck'). Which I love that she did. I laughed so, so hard at the bit with Pimento killing the bug and then breaking down with remorse. Brief, but hilarious. I'm not sad that we're getting a break from him, though. I don't mind him as a guest character, but for me he works better in small doses. The 99 should have fingerprints from the briefcase the guy handed over to Jake, right? I don't know if FBI agents have to leave fingerprints somewhere, but that should be a start.
  9. This is sort of a combination between a hilarious moment and a 'hell yeah' moment - I was watching 42, as I mentioned in another thread, and there's this scene early on where Jackie is playing for Montreal in a practice game facing the Dodgers for the first time. Jackie gets on first base through a walk, rattling Higbe, the racist-dick pitcher, before stealing two more bases. Finally he's on third, doing his thing, attempting to steal home and generally getting under Higbe's skin. The music swells, the tension rises, Higbe goes for the pitch and - the music abruptly stops as he fumbles and drops the ball at his feet. That moment never fails to crack me up. Made even better by how the Dodgers fans boo Higbe while Jackie is allowed to jog home and score, and Jackie's teammate cracking up at the plate.
  10. I don't know, I think Pellegrini has more integrity than that. My dad believes the players have lost focus and are worrying about next year under a new manager, wondering whether they'll get to keep their spots, etc. If that's the case, then they're really mentally fragile - they should see this as an opportunity to play their best and show Pep that they deserve their spot in the squad next season. Demichelis can't blame his lack of focus on that, though, he really just isn't good enough. And I'm not convinced by Mangala, either. (I'm crossing my fingers that PSG will beat City in the CL quarter. As a Swede, I'm rooting for my man Zlatan to get to the final.) ETA - The relegation zone has got quite interesting, too. Villa are almost definitely going down - if they suddenly pulled together a string of wins I suppose they could drag themselves up, but they just don't look able to do that - and Sunderland have been flirting with relegation for years; I think it's time they lost that battle. For some reason I'm sort of fond of Norwich, but between them and Newcastle... I'm pulling for Newcastle.
  11. And of course this week it's Liverpool Liverpool-ing up a 2-0 lead with 20 minutes to go. There's a nostalgic part of me that still loves Martin Skrtel just for being the last one left (except for Lucas) from the squad I first fell in love with, but I blame him for that loss. Everything fell apart when he came on. Can this season just be over already? And speaking of falling apart, that seems to be exactly what Manchester City have done. What's happened to them? After today's match against United I wonder when Demichelis will get to start again. He's never been reliable, but he was absolutely dreadful today.
  12. Yeah, I'm not surprised. It must've been awful for everyone there, but obviously especially Boseman and Tudyk.
  13. I was watching 42 again, and I'd forgot how rage-inducing the scene where the Dodgers first face Philadelphia is. I love Alan Tudyk, but I immediately forget that when his Ben Chapman starts yelling expletives at Jackie as he steps up to the plate. It's so gross, and so horrible, and it feels like it would've been a pretty hard scene to film. Kudos to both Tudyk and Chadwick Boseman for it.
  14. Ah yeah, the FA Cup. That one was a bit worse, although Watford have shown throughout the season that they're no pushovers. And heh, yeah, I have a friend who supports Spurs and he would be utterly insufferable if they go on to win it, so please no. I'm not completely discarding Arsenal yet, either - Spurs and Leicester have no experience in title races, they could both easily panic and lose a few games and let Arsenal (and the others - it's such a tight race this year!) right back into it. Man, I wish we were up there.
  15. To be fair to them, any team that had been drawn against Barcelona in the CL this round would probably have gone out. They're just on a different level right now - I think it's been almost six months since they last lost a match. (God I miss Suarez.) And maybe now that Arsenal are out of the CL they can regain their league form again. Don't they usually finish strong in the league? I feel like they always have this dip around February/March, where they drop too many points, and then they come back and end on a series of wins, clinching fourth place. Only this year they should get at least third. I really hope Leicester can hold the rest of the pack off. It'd be bloody brilliant if they actually won it.
  16. That Sausage Party trailer... The (I'm unsure what the spoiler policy on trailers is) killed me. This is the first I've heard of this movie, but I need to see it.
  17. Has anyone else seen the ESPN '30 for 30' documentary about Hillsborough, from 2014? About the football stadium disaster in 1989 when 96 people died in a crush? It's available to watch on YouTube, and it's just - heartbreaking. It's very well made and I think it handles the subject and the interviews with survivors and family members as well as is possible, but utterly heartbreaking, and at least for me, rage-inducing. I'm a Liverpool supporter, so Hillsborough is never far from me and I've read and seen a lot about it over the years, but that documentary was still like punch in the gut. The unfairness of it all will never not anger me. The way it was handled by the police in the buildup, how they failed to direct the crowd, and the lies and cover-ups in the aftermath... I know many outside the UK have never heard about it, or at least not heard the full story, and apparently this documentary couldn't even be shown in the UK for some reason to do with the inquest, but it's really worth seeing. There another by the BBC called Hillsborough: How They Buried the Truth, also well worth watching, if you're interested.
  18. *waves* Fellow Liverpool supporter here. Solidarity, my friend. (I didn't realise there was a sports section on here! Colour me excited.) As nice as yesterday's win over City was, couldn't they have managed that on Sunday? Given that Mignolet's only real strengths are his fast reflexes and shot-stopping I actually let myself believe we might beat them when it came to penalties. Looking forward to the North London derby this weekend, those are usually entertaining!
  19. I said this in the Academy Awards thread, but I was SO happy to see this win Best Picture. I was sure it was going to be the Revenant, and it's really great so see a non-flashy film like Spotlight win this statue. Re-watching the film I kept thinking that I wished Liev Schreiber had got more attention in the lead up to the awards. I've always liked him and he's gotten better and better over the years, and he's just terrific here. Another random little thing I noticed on re-watch - the scene where Sacha and Robby go to see Macleish the first time, and Macleish says how the church is tough, and so your best chance is to try those cases in the press, and then adds, "...Like I did on Porter." I just found that a great acting moment from Crudup, the small pause and a brief glance back at Keaton - which makes sense once we find out that he tried to get the Globe onto the whole thing years ago. There really was a whole lot of great acting in this film. Rachel McAdams' face in the split second when Sacha realises she's standing in front of Father Paquin is also brilliant.
  20. Same here, actually. I'm choosing to see his Oscar this year as a belated reward for that performance (for which he wasn't even nominated, if I remember correctly). So thrilled Spotlight won the Best Picture - it was one of my absolute favourite movies from last year. I was sure it'd be The Revenant, with the Leo and Iñárritu boosts. Really nice to see a non-flashy but excellent film like Spotlight take home the big one. Also super pleased for Fury Road, especially the Editing award for Margaret Sixel.
  21. I was re-watching Begin Again and remembered how much I love the scene where Gretta and Dan first meet, when she's singing in the pub and Dan starts hearing what the song could be, with all the other instruments joining in one by one. It's so lovely and clever, both visually and sound-wise.
  22. Interesting - I find him really handsome, even though not conventionally so, and I thought that was the unpopular opinion. (I mean, he's apparently so self-conscious about his looks that he never watches himself in anything, including interviews.) I remember thinking he was gorgeous in Frances Ha, and more recently in This Is Where I Leave You.
  23. It may not be a fashionable opinion, but I'm right there with ya. It's one of very few romantic comedies that I really like. Sure, there are bits I could do without, but overall I just really enjoy it.
  24. Yes, agreed. I think the book makes that clearer than the film did, which is why it's understandable that viewers are unforgiving of Briony, but yeah. I believe that she genuinely misunderstood things and didn't just lie because of jealousy.
  25. Oh, thank you! For the life of me I couldn't make out what that line was, no matter how many times I rewound. (Also, ha!)
