  1. Who is removing history; better yet, whose history are we talking about? I think that this has been the elephant in the living room since the show began. When you have a cast of white privileged Southerners, many of whom had ancestors who benefited directly from slavery; eventually race was going to come up. Compare that with Southern Charm: New Orleans, a show with more black cast members. I remember there was an episode where many of the men talked about being stopped by the police for....being black. It was brought up, no history was removed, no discussion was shut down.
  2. I think the show is in a lose/lose situation. Right now COVID cases are up, hospitalizations are up. I wonder if people will want to watch folks being irresponsible during the pandemic. On the other hand, I don't think people will want to watch a show where everybody's wearing a mask. I think it would have been better if they didn't film until COVID was nearly done.
  3. I think the elephant in the room regarding this show has been the fact that many of these young-ish people are benefitting indirectly from slavery. Many of them might deny that fact, which I don't get; I have no problems saying that yes, in certain areas I do have privilege. I wondered when they would address those things like, "how did your family make its money? Where did your family get all their land? Now, no one is responsible for what their ancestors did, but to deny just makes that person look worse. To accept it doesn't make you a bad person, it means you're just accepting what is.
  4. That is a good point. But, I don't think there are statues of Adolf Hitler in Germany and I don't think people fly the Nazi flag in front of their home. History: The South lost the Civil War. The Union Jack isn't flown on top the Capitol, and the Confederate flag shouldn't be flown anywhere. However, it should be in a museum, along with the Confederate statues. ETA: I have an issue with things being called "revisionist history." A lot of history depends on who is writing it. Some people's stories are never told, so telling them shouldn't be called revisionist at all.
  5. Ugh, why is this useless idiot still on the show? If Thomas isn’t a main character, then Kathryn shouldn’t be either. She’s always been useless. BTW, COVID is everywhere, not just NYC.
  6. I don't get this "Sydney is fat" talk. WTF? The only thing wrong with her look is the hair.
  7. To me, the problem with this show began with Dani and Mohammad. I believe that's when the ratings for this show started to go up; people wanted to see the train wreck; that was followed by Nicole and Azan. I think the producers believed that people wanted to see train wrecks, and that may be true. But, no one wants to see an ENTIRE season of nothing but train wrecks. One train wreck a season is enough.
  8. Good points. That's the problem, but what is their solution? Aside from NOT looking at million dollar homes, that is. (Actually I think that part was just for the show.)
  9. I agree about the wigs; some people need to leave the Rapunzel look alone, leave it for the Disney princesses. I hope Karen's fame doesn't go to her head, if it does she'll be Nene Leakes 2.0. And as for dear Monique, people who pop off and get physical over NOTHING are mainly people who have nothing. I've seen my share of people fighting in the streets over a dime, a man, a woman, a piece of chicken; they fight because they have zilch in their lives; that's why I'm annoyed with Monique. Monique is a woman who has a husband, three children, four homes; she has no reason to be on TV acting like a person who has nothing going on in their life.
  10. Here's my thing. If you're young and you want to buy, fine. But if you buy, you're stuck in the neighborhood and today things change quickly. My mom sold her house in the early 00's and she got a very, very good price for it. Had she waited the house would have been worth a lot less. Why? Because the block changed. People died, one of the houses was taken over by the state because the heir couldn't pay the taxes. Another person rented out their grandmother's house and those people wrecked it. A drug dealer moved into one house and stayed there for a few years until the Feds caught up with him; and that was in Eastern Virginia. For me I've never had to pay for a refrigerator or oven, I've never had to pay to have my bathroom drain changed and because of that I went to the Caribbean every winter, for about ten years. So there are pros and cons, depending on where you are in life.
  11. I hope so. Brittany has a new Instagram page. I don't need to see her ever again. Just like Yazan said, Brittany will go back to the US and forget all about Yazan; maybe she'll start hanging out with Deavan. 😁
  12. I disagree. If you purchase a house you've got to have money stashed away to pay for when things break down. If your house is a money pit, then you can wind up throwing your money away too. I've seen too many people lose homes because they couldn't pay the taxes. At least with a rental you can leave without having to go through the anxiety of selling your home. (and now you have to worry about folks who use their homes as Airbnb's)
  13. I think she's an immature brat, but I also think she's anxious and I hope she doesn't put that on Avi.
  14. Thank you for that comment. This is just my little two cents and not 100% correct but, I think one issue is that in the US, the happiness of the individual is the most important thing. All of our movies and TV shows are about people finding love, people being happy; that's the most important thing. But in countries like India or Jordan, Mexico, Ethiopia , the happiness of the family/community is the most important thing. That's why Jenny can't understand Sumit's mother, or why Brittany can't understand Yazan's family. They're like, "We're in love and that's the most important thing, why can't THEY understand it." They can't understand it because that's not how their culture rolls. Many people see American culture as selfish; many Americans see Indian and other cultures as repressive.
  15. I think Karen's popularity might have gone to her head. That scene with Ray was embarrassing because it was so obviously staged, like they had probably rehearsed it several times. Ray looked like he wanted to be anywhere else but there, but he's going along with it the same way Greg Leakes went along with it all. That "fuck you" while walking out was really unbecoming of the "Grand Dame."
  16. Because if Bini told her to stay home, she'd be angry; notice how quickly she left his brother's home, handed the baby to Bini's sister and then ran out looking for him to tell him that she loved him. The ageism on this board is making me feel uncomfortable. Unless you die you're going to get old. I don't get Sumit's mother AT ALL. Would she rather her son marry Brittany, or Ari or Deavan?
  17. That was totally tacky. Tacky for her to leave her own party early and tacky to say "Fuck you" to the women. Karen can miss me with that Grande Dame act, and that foolishness with Ray. As for silly Gizzy and her inability to find a decent man, I don't know why folks can't get that it's mainly luck. Also it's numbers: There are more women than men and the stats for black women/black men are even more dismal. This book really says a lot about that. Monique got lucky....well maybe.
  18. I don't understand how these season will be with the pandemic going on.
  19. I HATE, HATE, HATE emotional blackmailers. I think they are the worst ever, even worse than catfishers. What they should have said was, "Sumit, Jenny, go on and get married, but we'll never help you financially." I hate ANYBODY saying shit like that.
  20. I think Karen has enough going for her that she doesn't need to look desperate but between running away from her own party and that "scene" with Ray (wonder how many times they rehearsed it) the woman's looking a bit thirsty to me.
  21. Something about the line I bolded bugs me. It's like saying, "stick to your own kind." 😝
  22. Monique might not have wanted anymore issues, but I don't know about Karen though. I think Karen lives for the drama.
  23. I think much of it is luck. However, I think Gizelle's problem is she goes for who she thinks is hot without asking the relevant questions like "are you available?" "Are you a cheater?" Things like that. I can't stand Karen but I would love for her to write a book about her family. There are very few black family farms in the US. A story about her family would be more interesting than Gizelle's book about her being a First Lady. I think I get why Karen doesn't really like Gizelle. Karen is light skinned, like Gizelle and Robyn; but unlike Gizelle and Robyn, she didn't go to college, isn't an AKA, etc. That same stuff happened to my mom, she's lighter than Gizelle but was never accepted into the "Jack and Jill" set because she never went to college. It sucks but that's the way some people roll. I think Karen was smart enough to marry a man she knew was going to be a good provider and probably didn't care too much for looks. That has served her well. She was smart enough to be that housewife when her kids were small and now that her kids are grown is doing what she wants to do. I saw that and I didn't really believe Monique. She didn't say anything about Karen practically shoving her out the door though. Karen is SO not a Grand Dame; Grand Dame's don't say "fuck you" and leave their own parties while people are still trying on wigs. BTW, maybe Karen should try one of those wigs she was selling, they might look better than that bone straight, blonde thing on her head.
  24. I laughed at that too. But, if Bini had told Ari to stand on the sidelines while he went to get the holy water, Ari would have been pissed that Bini left her standing on the sidelines with the baby. You can't win with her. She's SOOOOO anxious, I really think she needs to seek therapy before her anxiety starts to ooze out of her an onto Avi.
