  1. I can see Trevor having more immediate success as a singer-songwriter of children's songs mixed with science education, like on an edutainment variety style tv show or web series, where his high energy and knowledge to impart could fit together well. I liked the clips of Riley playing guitar with Keith during one of his shows a few years(?) ago, he's talented...and that strikes me as more of his strength at this point, to be a guitarist in a band rather than a singer with guitars on AI. However, this gives him the opportunity to get himself out there to the broader audience, so it's good. The other country singer he sat with at the top 12 boys reveal was perhaps a little better (it was close, imo), but I was glad Riley got through because I want to see him all-out shred in a bigger production number, if he makes it far.
  2. Judges, when you heap high praise on a mediocre performance, what words are left for the truly great performances to set them apart as they deserve? I enjoyed Adanna and Sarina Joi. I wasn't feeling Tyanna's song choice, but otherwise like her voice too. Couldn't help but think "Rachel" when Maddie came on, and after that meh performance I would've liked to have seen how Rachel would've fared tonight instead. Wonder what she's up to since that sing-off switcheroo. Does JLo keep looking to her lower left at a monitor to check herself out when she's onscreen (too much!), or a script? I can't tell, but it bugs. And my hand basket to hell awaits, for my feeling that I was watching/hearing a man in drag tonight instead of Shi. I can't stand her singing voice.
  3. I was thinking Lenny Kravitz and Adam Lambert when watching Quentin's performance last night too! :D It was kind of mesmerizing, so I definitely want to see what he does next. Trevor seemed hyped up more than usual (haha), and if he takes it down a notch I think it would make a big difference. Same with Adam, he appears too jokey or bug-eyed or something that doesn't lend itself to the magnitude of this opportunity, yet I think it's within him to give less clowny performances (but hey, last night's choice was Twisted Sister, so there's that). Qaasim definitely brings a performance to a song. But with all the cuts to JLo, the family and the audience, we didn't get the full impact.
  4. JLo's continual gushing about how adorable (and beyond!) Daniel is made me "see" him as an 8 year old tonight. Then when he was squeeing about the girls in front yelling his name during his performance with (gasp!) his mom up in the stands--I saw him as a 12 year old (not 15) once more. His smiling singing (that is, not properly emoting for the song) would get others in trouble, but I fear he may have enough voters to put him through no matter how he does.
  5. I hope Pharrell has a better run this season, I like how he pitches his desire to bring out the best in what these singers hope to accomplish. Whereas Adam too often makes it more about himself and sometimes assumes he knows what these people are about straight away. I probably wouldn't want Adam as my coach because he gets rabid about wanting to "crush Blake" and I'd (selfishly!) want his focus more on me. ha 'Twas a treat to see Pharrell sing Happy with the high schooler who appeared to have nerves get the better of her, though perhaps a different song than Cool Kids would've worked out. Like Christina, I'm interested in hearing (no pun intended) more background about her girl with parents who are deaf and has a mid-tone issue herself. Although I'm not a fan of Christina's singing style and attitude at times, I like this combo of coaches. Many strong performers tonight. An enjoyable start to the season.
  6. I'm only speaking for myself, but I'm thinking my life is a shade of shitty that I'm paying any attention to farmer Chris's journey...made more tolerable by snarking with others about it, but still...ugh :)
  7. The vocal appeal of Shi and Shannon is lost on me. Totally. Good to see a few 29-year-olds in the mix. :) eta: was a bit surprised only a relative few went over and thanked the judges with a hug/handshake
  8. Dandesun, I agree that Deacon should inform those he loves and make the best with what he has. I likely would be all kinds of upset (selfishly) to learn after a death that my loved one knew and didn't let us know, it would've put a whole different texture to the remaining time--though I can also understand some reasons why it might be easier for someone to keep a diagnosis to themselves. Such a difficult process, different for each family-friends dynamic. I feel for you.
  9. I'd be fine with the show choosing a woman from a prior season or even someone new-to-franchise (gasp!--never gonna happen, eh). TPTB think viewers have short memories and wouldn't remember past contestants, or wouldn't tune in to watch someone unfamiliar, but it would be a breath of fresh air imo. If the show premise is finding a spouse, I don't believe Britt is the one to be a b'ette except that she otherwise fits the bill of being vivacious eye candy, but I couldn't take a season of men tripping over her beauty and her Home Alone Macauley Culkin go-to expression of shock/surprise. Carly really needs some therapy for her relationship issues and being the b'ette would do more harm than good. Kaitlyn is fun with guys but if she keeps her guard up then it could be more of a buddy show than a romantic one if a guy doesn't help take the lead in showing that kind of interest. Weird that Becca's family emphasized she isn't the intimate sort (maybe she hasn't met a guy she feels that way toward?). Being hands-off wouldn't be a plus for a b'ette. Jade's shy teen-girl vocal cadence now annoys me more than Whitney's voice and it's a disconnect for me since she has this "wild" side we haven't really seen on the show.
  10. I feel Whitney's pain at finding out after the fact that she missed out on the Big & Rich show with Chris, especially to someone who apparently has no love/appreciation of country music. If Chris loves that music, I would think he'd have wanted to share it with someone like-minded in that setting (actually, I'm projecting what I'D have done in that situation, heh). Chris apparently missed that B&R swapped out "cowboy" and sang "save a horse, ride a farmer" instead. I wonder if Chris could've helped smooth things over with the women after the concert, if he hadn't just up and left but stayed to hang out with them more. Or had them go back to the hotel earlier rather than just sit and wait all for naught. Production drama shenanigans no doubt, but still.
  11. It seemed weird that Chris was having an old-timey photo shoot there in Deadwood...alone. But hey, that means there's no one crying, creating drama, backstabbing the other women to ruin his fun--you know, those things that men generally hate to be involved in with women, yet they continue to do. I kinda shuddered at his naked-except-for-boots look, limbs sprouting from the tub at various angles.
  12. I'm so overwhelmed by all the WTF moments of this episode (there were more than usual!) that I can't begin to comment. Well, just one...I really didn't think Ashley would pull the "I have a Master's" card before Kelsey, but then again I didn't know she had one--she sure faked me out on that! Who knew? :p
  13. Thanks to the interwebs, I just learned that John Rich's children are named Colt and Cash. I'm a trivia geek, so maybe that factoid will come in handy later and help make my story amazing. ;) Ok, back on topic...
  14. Ashley and Kelsey each act like they have a lock on this thing. I can see Chris saying goodbye to both of them at the same time, them hyperventilating with mouths agape in shocked disbelief, walking away together spewing how they think he is making the biggest mistake of his life, only to claim 30 seconds later that they never liked him anyway and bond over the absurdity that classy gals like them would be a farmer's wife. As if! :)
  15. I'm not a fan of this part of the season (and often skip) all the angsty, sleep-deprived, panic-attacked group drama. I only caught the first and last groups (Double Stuff and Dimples) and thought they were quite good compared to what I've seen in the past. Instead of coming back to AI after the commercial, I just kept watching The Great British Baking Show--what does it say that I found it more interesting to watch them bake cakes than watch group round. :) I enjoy great singing, so I'm not feeling the fun in watching two girls squee over the virgin guy (why would his mom feel it cute to tell the world that, make him stand out as memorable?). I bet that's not the last we've seen of that puppy love. Or young men salivating over JLo (like the confident 15-year-old who looks 12, ha!). Behind the scenes stuff can be interesting, but because the show is short and there are so many contestants, I'd prefer to see more performing now and do backstories and whatnot when the field is whittled down a little more. As for people shown having meltdowns, they're young and it seems unnecessary to put that out there in the permanent record that they can never escape. This stage of the show should be more about nurturing largely inexperienced talent rather than possibly crushing its spirit or heaping on more needless anxiety. Again, I'm not feeling the fun in watching people implode from the pressure.
  16. I would have preferred a two-hour episode, to hear a bit more from people. As it is, there aren't many who really stand out to me to the point of knowing names or being particularly excited about them. I liked the self-described nerdy teen whose back-up plan is to be like Bill Nye--he had good stage presence to match singing ability, so I look forward to seeing how he develops.
  17. Yes, this episode was a long time coming....Christmas decorations are still up in Nashville-land. It was ever so slightly jarring/distracting.
  18. Rayna saying to the press that the decision to call off the wedding was a mutual one isn't going to cause any repercussions, is it. Good grief.
  19. I don't know what a 7 carat wedding ring goes for, but that could help pay down the bills Luke rightly passed along to Rayna. I fume when characters don't say what needs to be said in the moment (you can see the words forming and they just.don't.come.out) and the misunderstandings drag on when a simple sentence might avert it all. Case in point, Will had two good opportunities to just say that the woman pressured him sexually, to prove he's not gay. (That was easy!) Or Deacon wanting to counter Rayna's plea to give her a little time with, I don't have a lot of time. (Don't you want to open that can of worms!) But I get it, that's not how shows like this roll. I also suspend belief when characters do a complete turn on a dime; it gets so soapy. :) A tweet from Deacon could snag him a liver donor pronto, though I imagine he's not on Twitter nor up for the public getting wind of this. Loved that Juliette put Avery's chair, draped with a blankie and sweet note, in the nursery.
  20. The amount of buzz generated by Britt's personal hygiene is, um, impressive...? To me, she doesn't appear any less unkempt than those she's been sharing space with, and I don't recall any mention of ripeness...the girls would know, they've been very much arm to armpit with she of the free/extended hugs for weeks. Sigh, my two cents has been added into this non-drama. Michele Money must be cackling up a storm.
  21. Again with the sudden burning need to tell a dead husband story to Chris without being asked, followed by kissing (wtf)!? Crap script. "Story" seems to have been the drinking-game word of the episode, with Carly's "like" coming in a close second. Britt's breathy wide-eyed (and mouth) hands to face wonderment and hopping around during her one-on-one was a wee OTT and got old quick, though Chris seemed to dig it. Little wonder a nap was in order later. :)
  22. After hearing Carly's tale of not being touched by her last bf and the hit it made to her self-confidence, I'm not sold that she could carry being The B'ette. She has a sense of humor that could be appealing to some guys, but ultimately friend-zone her perhaps. I'm interested to see how they continue to edit her (and not be distracted by geometric eyebrows). Nothing new in spoiler land?
  23. I have a ridiculous startle response and would be petrified being woken by someone inches from my face, immediately followed by a reflexive action to lash out toward that face, meanwhile my heart would be pounding out of my chest. I'd be cussing, not kissing. Apparently when Carly was chirping about Britt wearing makeup to bed, she didn't consider that her made-up face in bed would show too? It was sucky though how Britt and Chris couldn't wait to begin making out, with poor Carly (and Jade?) right there to hear all the lip smacking.
  24. Ashley I's pissiness at not getting the princess date will so pale in comparison to seeing what she missed out on the love guru date, what with all the blindfolded feeling each other up while sitting in his lap and breathing in each other's mouths. Feeding him dripping chocolate-covered strawberries! Telling him what scares you! Stripping one another's clothes off! That love date might be ok if you're already intimately comfortable with your partner and (for me, anyway) there are no cameras involved, haha. But as a first date being filmed for this ridic show...um, no. Of course we know Carly got it because her application must have mentioned all that she confided to Chris, about not being touched by her last bf and it shot her confidence a year and a half ago, etc. I imagine he would've loved to have that date with Britt, the one he gushed "I love kissing you" to. And took a two hour nap with. :) Kissing is exhausting!
  25. tonight's fool's edit goes to...Megan delusional beyotch edit goes to...it's a tie! Ashley I and Kelsey I was looking forward to seeing which crazies were going to be given the boot at the rose ceremony, there are several I want gone. What a gyp! Good to see Sam got in a sentence at the end, geesh. I wasn't even 100% sure of who it was sitting there mute all week, so I'm guessing she's on her way out unless the editors are pulling a fast one.
