  1. The women on this show do appear to exhibit these qualities in spades. Most of them, men and women alike, seem to be overly concerned with looks. I roll my eyes when a new woman sashays up the beach and some of the women instantly feel less-than. Yeah, it's hard to be above being judgey-judgey sometimes, but the comments can be rather off the wall, as in, do they really believe what they just said? No surprise the show retains a psychologist or psychiatrist, if I heard that handler right.
  2. When Chris asked Elise to come home with him, I assumed his plan was to have her be his oh-so-willing nursemaid until the knee heals up...then it's heave-ho, if they can even make it that far. I'm surprised we didn't get more about what happened when they shared the hotel room.
  3. Not sure why AshLee was lamenting the lack of a date in three weeks for her...seems they all get plenty of hanging-out time together, which would allow great opportunity to get close to Graham. Unlike AshLee, I haven't followed Graham on Instagram and don't know much of him beyond the franchise, so I'm guessing maybe he opted for separate hotel rooms so as not to inflame the crazy, more than being a Southern gentleman? idk Whereas Marquel and Jackie profess they don't kiss on the first date...and proceed to kiss on the first date. And no little peck, at that. Mayan ruins have that effect.
  4. imo, many of the guys (other than Chris B) are attractive and I feel sorry for them to be stuck in "paradise" with such a sad crop of women--some of them are downright ugly in my eyes, and when you add in whiny voices and immature, delusional thinking...but yeah, it's going all according to script so I'm just in it for the cheesy entertainment. I use that word loosely. At the beginning of the episode, Sarah's voice made me think of the androgynous Pat character from SNL many years ago. Damn Robert for keeping her on, I find her poor-me attitude curious and maddening. Work has put me in contact with people of various disfigurements and abilities who don't have such low opinions of themselves as Sarah has expressed, having half a limb--perhaps she'd gain a better perspective and disposition if she hung out more with, for example, amputees than Bachelor alumni (if she indeed feels like an outcast because of her arm). She was pretty confident, however, in giving Elise dating advice, ha.
  5. Can't help but think if Tanisha's face was as gorgeous as her dancing, she wouldn't be leaving tonight...? Shallow and unfair, yes. The other girls get comments about how stunning and beautiful they are/look, but I don't recall Tanisha getting one that isn't dance-related. I could be wrong, as I haven't watched from the start this season.
  6. BiP is pure soap opera shite. These forums keep me entertained, though. :)
  7. Seems to me the Bachelor franchise is mainly about pretty people (ymmv) in pretty places (ditto) "finding love" in the most.dramatic.ways.ever. Eventual marriage optional--though weddings try to lend a whiff of legitimacy to the charade, maybe help hold interest for those who tune in for a "happy ending." I think more tune in for trainwrecks and batsh*t crazy all wrapped in the pretty. Having my hopes raised that maybe, just maybe, someone other than unattractive Chris could be the next Bachelor...we indeed may have a season of ghosts in the graveyard drinking game? Sigh. Well, on the bright side, there looks to be plenty of more interesting fall shows on the schedule.
  8. ^ and several of them appeared as if they were stroking their hair extensions during much of the episode, it got distracting
  9. I recall a show with that premise, though don't remember any episodes. I'd like to see a follow up all these years later--see if they're married and how the kids felt about dad going against their pick. And how things turned out for the creative, funky lady. ha!
  10. Blogger Jen Frase (link upthread) describes the BiP digs as "MEXICAN. It's like a giant decorated sombrero in there."
  11. ribbon, your comment brought to mind that new ABC show, The Quest, which I haven't seen. Perhaps if it's successful, a Renaissance Faire-stylized dating show could be spun off...? haha. The costumes would be cool!
  12. For pure eye candy and entertainment, I'm for Arie as the next Bachelor. Great hair and smile! Which I can't say at all about Chris (mileage varies, of course). Chris got an angelic edit, and I'm not buying it, but I still think he'd be a wee bit bland by Bachelor expectations. Whoever is chosen, I always wish they'd cast seemingly more appropriate matches to the leads...for instance, why cast women who have zero interest in farming or off-road racing (or whatever it is that's a big part of the lead's life)? Oops, sorry...I tried to apply logic to this silly show. Obviously drama and discord are prized more than long-term relationship success. And hey, it's not like cast members really think they'll get very far in the process and actually fall in love.
  13. Despite the graying of America, I can't see ABC green lighting "Bachelor: The Middle Ages" or "Bachelorette: AARP Style" any time soon. Though, there are some darn attractive couples in Cialis and Viagra commercials, so it wouldn't have to be all liver spots and cellulite. haha. But seriously, I'd be curious as to what a Bach version of peeps 38+ could pull in the ratings. My perception is that the show has been casting more 30+ men AND women than in the earliest seasons that seemed overrun with many vacuous women in their early 20s who didn't strike me as on a quest to "find love" in the settle down sense. Silly that there's expectation of a proposal at the finale. After the lead has been fake-dating multiple people up to the week prior.
  14. If memory serves, there originally wasn't an emphasis on getting engaged at the finale--it was fine and logical to date each other in the real world away from cameras rolling in exotic scenarios, to see if you actually did like each other after all. Two leads could be an interesting twist, although I'd rather they mix up the types of people cast...get away from so many really young, emotionally immature, shallow sorts. Or just have an offshoot for people like me who don't need amped up drama and might enjoy slightly older people who are more intelligent and creative and don't thrive on being mean or crazy. People who could speak lines devoid of "right reasons" and "like." I haven't watched every season because they don't stray from a script and formula and it gets annoyingly stale. Alas, my idea would likely be boring to the masses.
  15. Sarah hasn't shaken her sad sack demeanor, and her one-piece swimsuit for her dream date with Marcus did her no favors either. AshLee is a piece of work...was glad to see Graham call her out on walking away from him when he wanted to talk with her and tags it a red flag, but then gives her a rose anyway. Her clumpy eyelashes are distracting, as are Lacy's boobs. ha Ben may have said "this sucks" because he was commanded to give his rose to Sarah, to keep her around for the drama of Marcus not giving her his rose as "promised." Wearing high heels on the beach, good grief. Michelle Money's makeup is a bit much--prettier without it. Maybe some of these people would find lasting relationships if they didn't put so much emphasis on looks. I would typically avoid people like this IRL, so why I watch anything put out by the Bachelor franchise remains a mystery.
