Hmm, they finally remembered to give the companions character in this episode. I can see very little of Chibnall's style in this, I wonder how much he wrote of the episode that has 'award winning' written all over it.

Again...seems drab. The new console room is gloomy as fuck, there's no sparkle to the dialogue, apart from the Call of Duty moment, that raised a smile. It's serviceable at best. If we don't see more of these race people in another episode, the ending was so abrupt as to give viewers whiplash. And the evil bandages borrowed Prisoner Zero's taunting of Eleven to set up this season's Timeless Child arc.

S11.E01: The Woman Who Fell to Earth
HauntedBathroom replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Doctor Who
Heee!! I do hope she gets better at it when Chibnall's not having to push the "not like a sexy human woman AT ALL" thing so hard. I'm just concerned that they're studs. Pearced earrings + action sequences = torn ears and blood everywhere. -

Agreed with all of this. Why is the teenage girl even there? She did nothing all episode, and three companions hasn't worked since 1967. -

Take Spearhead from Space. Remove UNIT, add Ordinary People. Remove Autons, add Predator. Garnish the regulars with Value Added Angst. In the last scene, veer off into Season 12 style travelling without the TARDIS. Additional thought - did Chibs blow all of this cash on cranes? Because if what played behind the end credits is what the new title sequence looks like, it escaped from the cheaper end of Tales of the Unexpected. -

That was...a perfectly adequate episode of Doctor Who. Which is more than I expected from Chibnall. -
It does seems a bit weedy compared to Eccles' "Do you wanna come with me?" trailer, and Matt's 'falling through space' trailer. But it's only a trailer.

I just don't like a Doctor wearing a costume. It's as contrived as Colin Bakers clown suit.
-
Oh dear. Still, it seems it was mostly the colour of her trousers she came up with, not the 'Mork from Ork' vibes.

Bye Steven. Bye Peter. I shall miss you both terribly. Good luck to Jodie, with Chibbers in charge she's going to need it. But how wonderful was it to see Patrick Troughton at the end of One's regeneration? I was genuinely startled by the use of clips from the Tenth Planet. The whole thing left me very touched and emotional.
-
It's literally not. At that point, both One and Susan knew he was talking out of his arse when he claimed he'd go back. By the time he could steer the TARDIS that well,, he'd had four more lives and met a load more people, Susan Who?

Surely you're not implying Chris 'fuck buddies, cyberchica' Chibnall is bad at women? I'm more concerned that he's bad at writing. The best you can say about his Who/Torchwood work is that it gets better. a bit.
-
I'm really stunned by the ammount of perople saying "Now Moffat's gone, and the man who gave us Tiorchwood season 1 and 2 is in charge, we'll be getting some good stuff!" Chibnall's cast a Doctor that ;looks very interesting, but he's going to have to work extremely hard to wipe the memory of Cyberlady, the hideous Gwen Cooper and Doctor Data Rape out.

BBC management didn't think Paul McGann was a big enough name for a special episode. Since Eccles wouldn't come back, a new Doctor was needed.
-
Did he? I didn't see it.

The Master/Missy: "Detestable Chap . . . All Of Them"
HauntedBathroom replied to Lantern7's topic in Doctor Who
If only this could have happened!! Hysterical!! -
Loved this episode - I'd heard the rumours that David Bradley would be back in the Christmas special, but I didn't really believe it, and I certainly didn't expect him in this episode!! It was all round wonderful - I loved the bit where the Doctor suggested that Cybermen are just a natural evolution of humanoid life+technology. So the Cybermen came from Mondas. And Telos. And Planet 14. And Marinus. The Worldshapers is canon! Sucks to be a Voord!
-
Well, that was brilliant! Can't wait for next week. I was wondering if the snowscape from the opening scene might have been Mondas - or even the South Pole. That would be very Moffat, for the first Doctor of this new regeneration cycle to return to the location of his first regeneration.
-
Loved this episode. It was fun to see Bill befuddled by being considerd sweetly old fashioned for being sure she only liked girls. And it was very Doctorish to escape the Celts with a secret weapon of - popcorn! So yes, it was very enjoyable. And I'm really looking forward to the return of Mondasian Cybermen. I'm hoping they'll still be asking people what their jobs are when they take them away for conversion.

People have been shipping the Doctor and Master for decades. But if you want to blame someone for making it canon, blame RTD and his phone sex scene in The Souns of Drums.
-
@hnygrl, this episode was set in the 1880's, the TARDIS crew travelled in time. The Ice Warriors are native to Mars. And the British soldiers got to Mars in Fridays spaceship, which they helped him fix after they found him crashed in Africa. Are you sure you watched this twice

The Mastrer's always been conceived as the Moriarty to the Doctor's Holmes.
-
Since this is probably Gatiss's last shot at writing Who, it's not a surprise he went out with a Victorian era story featuring the classic era monsters he nagged Moffat to bring back in 2013. But it was a fun bit of fluff, and Ysanne Churchman appeared!! As soon as I heard that voice, I knew who it was, but I couldn't believe it, until we got a shot of the old penis-in-a-cloak itself! Disposable, but entertaining.
-
You should watch the end of The Time Monster. Or any Delgado stories. Or even The End of Time, if you can tolerate that shit. Another wonderful episode. I'm going to miss Capaldi terribly. And Pearl. And Matt. And Moffat.

Another cracking episode of Who. Philip Sandifer must have adored this episode.
